To be fairmy dog used to swim in my grandads pool (chlorine) and he was fine but swimming in the river some times irritates his skin. Dogs have a protective layer over theyre eyes (you can see it when it blinks)and that goes over their eyes whill swimming.

My old lab used to dive in a pond underwater and retreive rocks on his own. All you had to do was throw one and after a while, he would have a big pile.

That is one great swimmer! My black lab goes swimming in my pool all the time, but when he dives he doesn't swim near as far as captain. And to all the idiots saying its bad for the dog, or chlorine hurts the dog. Firstly, if the dog was in pain due to chemical sting on his eyes or anything he wouldn't go under. Secondly, not all pools use chlorine. Alot of pools have bacquacil used which is nonirritating.

Thats awesome! I had never seen a dog do that!! I had a golden retriever who loved water but he wouldnt go under it... It was awesome when he jumped but as soon as he landed on the pool he would seem immediatly back up. Was it you who teach the dog do that, or he was never afraid to go under? 1- you get his playing ball

2- you start throwing it at the pool so he dives and fetchs it for you.

3- when he´s cool with swimming, you start throwing stuff at the bottom of the pool so he jumps, dives and catches it

4- then you get into the pool and dive with his ball in your hand. he´ll try to catch it as long as it is in your hand, then SWIMMING DOG!
