Its not that rear that Grizzlies kill Black Bear. Happens quite often every year. In a fight, the Black Bear has no chance as the Grizzly is much more powerful and aggressive.

I have a link to the online book "Californian Grizzliy" (I think). For the record, the Lions were no match to th Grizzly.
