@evenairlines that's because 1GB isn't enough, I originally wrote in this day and age, but even when the Mac Pros came out 1gb wasn't enough unless you wre only web broswing and using word
Dude, you're doing it wrong. Getting the oil from your fingers on the RAM connectors is a great way to ruin a RAM stick. For anyone watching, only hold a RAM stick by the outside part of the ends. This is what decades of not being able to upgrade your hardware will do to you. Now you'll have to but new sticks in a year when those burn out.

not really...with 1gb RAM i manage to surf the web, watch youtube videos, edit images in GIMP and all kinds of stuff all at the same time. but still, you're right in saying that more RAM is certainly better, and I'm hoping to upgrade this christmas to be even more productive :)
You think this case is nice because as a true Apple enthusiastic you hide the reality from your eyes which is that if you look up for cases on eBay or Google you will find ten thousand times more nice looking cases. Alien cases or anything else, there is one for every taste.
you don't HAVE to have a heatsink on your RAM, it's just if you have a 6GB stick of RAM (or some huge amount bigger than 1GB) or if it just naturally get HOT!!!
Is it worth upgrading my macbook pro from 2gb to 4gb. By the way I work for a graphic design company and we use the macbook pro and then transfer onto a mac pro.
Newer Mac Pros are better with the RAM issue, because the RAM for the older Mac Pros (DDR2 FB-DIMMs) run really hot and rather slowly. The newer DDR3 DIMMs run much faster and cooler.
It's basically overkill, except if you have REALLY graphics intensive games (and there aren't any suitable video cards for Mac w/o Boot Camp) or if you use the Mac Pro with CAD applications.
thats nothing to brag about lol. a Power Mac G5 from 2005 could support up to 12GB RAM. My MacBook has 4GB RAM ram in it and its almost 2 years old. Vista can't handle more than 2GB, for it to handle more you have to buy the 64-bit version of vista
WIndows XP 64 bit can support up to 129 GB of RAM... Unless you have a master's in computer science don't call anyone a kid. Maybe you're getting GBs with TBs. An god maxed out gaming PC can support 32 GB of RAM, so 16 TB would cost a at least a million dollars. Hey, maybe Mac Pros can support 32 GBs of RAM, its just below you said 16 TBs.
no i said the Mac os supports 16TB's The worlds 3ed most powerful super computer is a bunch of powermac g5's in raid they have a total of 1000gbs of ram and windows just sucks drivers lol ever since i got my mac i forgot what they were
Sorry Muk546 Windows 7 Ultimate can support 128 gig RAM. Its usually the motherboard which is the limiting factor. And sa for HArd Drives. I currently have 16tb in my machine...
Windows Vista Ultimate can support upto 128 gig of RAM, As for how many gigs of HDD space you can have..Well add a few RAID controllers and the sky's your limit..
It can. your thinking about the 32 bit version of windows, but there is a more popular 64 bit version. 32 bit cant handle anything more than 4 gigs of ram, where as 64 bit can support, I think, upto 4000GB of ram, so its ready for the future, of computers.
Leopard can supposedly run on a G4! With crap all RAM! I ran Leopard on a 2.16 GHz MacBook with 1GB RAM and it was OK. I wanted Elements to run faster so I upgraded to 2Gb but it was still good on 1Gb. Overall Leopard is a lot less resource hungry than XP or Vista. But I agree lack of RAM was definite bottleneck on your MacPro. The new base Pro comes with "only" 3Gb. Most iMacs come with 4GB! What's that about Apple?!
you should replace your graphics card because to be honest the 7300gt is sh*t all the ones that apple sell are rubbish,so buy one offamazon(it will also be like $100 cheaper )

that's pretty cool how they did that with the risers. i wish my pc had that but it doesn't (obviously it isn't apple lol). i have an enthusiast pc used for hardcore gaming. I would have gotten a mac pro but they are just so expensive, especially with how much hardware i use. and i just have always loved building pcs, i just hate being stuck with windows shita (vista) for dx10.

I have looked at alot of pc case reviews and when I see the Mac Pro I wonder, how do the harddrives get cooled? I don´t see any fans.
And what´s those two big things lying on the ram board? I mean the second ram board. I have seen them on on other pictures of the Mac Pro.
Nefus2 2 years ago
@Nefus2:
Same here.
macward66 actually has/had some vids up that showed his temps when maxing the CPU's on his Mac Pro.
The CPU itself was running very cool. Around 127F (52C).
Thats a good result, considering fans very not very loud.
But I noticed his HDD's were at the same temp as the CPU.
Thats hot for a HDD if you ask me. My HDD on my Hackintosh is usually around 27-28C (80-82F).

that's pretty cool how they did that with the risers. i wish my pc had that but it doesn't (obviously it isn't apple lol). i have an enthusiast pc used for hardcore gaming. I would have gotten a mac pro but they are just so expensive, especially with how much hardware i use. and i just have always loved building pcs, i just hate being stuck with windows shita (vista) for dx10.
