i <3 spike. i dont feel very sorry for robin because he wanted to kill spike and used this song as a weapon. he has to understand that spike is good now.
@captainpanic08 Well... Vampires don't have souls. So she didn't know or care if she was hurting him, remember? And Spike said she still loved him, it was the demon talking.
Caribcaribe, makithecat, Just delighted to find this melody here. I too, growing up in Canada in the 50's loved this song and Greensleeves. We also were taught many songs from the British Isles. I have a query...the words we learned to this melody went something like "Early one morning, just as the sun was rising, I heard a bluebird in the field gaily singing/Warm breezes blowing...etc." The lyrics were constructed as an ode to each season. Anyone know this alternate lyric?
Absolutely gorgeous! I remember this song well from my school days in Trinidad. We sang a variety of songs from England, Ireland, Wales and even Australia. When i hear Nana Mouskouri here it harkens back to those old and lovely days. Thank you so much for posting this.
@mywillowtree98 "Spike goes all vamp when this song plays" because he had to kill his mom and the first made this song his "trigger" so when ever they played the song, he would turn evil for a certain amount of time. then when he would relax, he would be good again, but not remember anything!!! I hate the first, and i hate robin!!! i <3 SPIKE!!!
Absolutely beautiful. Who but Nana Mouskouri could sing an old English Folk song with such beauty. Thank you so very much for putting this in my grasp.
oh wow........ there is no word do desricbe this song it is ...... just so great, this song is a nice song great lyrics, and great playing the reason i looked at this is because I have been watching Buffy and it sounded good yeah I think that Buffy is a great series
This is probably my Grandmother's favorite song and she taught it to me when I was a small child...Nana brought back a fond memory for me...Thanks for posting.
@textlover321 Good luck doing it, it's a beautiful song, you said in a month, since now your comment is a month old, are you still going to do it, or have you already done it? ^^
@textlover321 Well it is a great song, that's for sure! ^^ I can only imagine how good of a performance you did for getting that gold medal of yours! Thumbs up and my respect to you! ^^
I love this song i grew up listening to it.....someone very close to me use to sing it to me before i went to sleep when i was a little girl and I haven't been able to find it anywhere
Everytime I listen to this song it reminds me of a children classic I used to listen as a child...the intro music was this one. The name of the classic, some of you, might remember: The Friendly Giant...!
I think this is my favourite version of this folk song on Youtube. Simply and exquisitely sung. I wonder though, is the accompanying instrument a lute? It sounds like one. Or is it a guitar? Or both?
This song was used in the Patrick Ness novel, 'The Knife of Never Letting Go' (which I HIGHLY recommend by the way), always reminds me of that book :')
I remember the actors on Bonanza put out an album in the '60's, and Purnell Roberts sang this song. I never forgot it. I only remembered it when it was played on Buffy the vampire slayer. Thanks for a beautiful rendition of the old classic!
My great grandmother was from Blythe, Northumberland England and she sang this to my grandmother who sang this to my mom who sang this to me, now I'm about to have my first child and I'm going to sing this to her when she goes to sleep too. This song always meant a lot to my family. It got my grandmother through a lot of nights when her and her mother and father were immigrating to America on a passenger ship like 80 years ago.
Perfection! Saw Ms. Mouskouri in Syracuse, NY many years ago in concert...and met her at a reception afterwards. Gracious lady, and this song, a favorite of mine for a long time, has never been sung better.
This is from the album "Songs of the British Isles"(1976) - a collection of beautiful very old songs from around the British Isles - some I had never heard before. Nana is at her very best on this album - I would highly recommend it if you can get it. Her diction on every song is so clear - whether singing in English (or Welsh - the language of two of the songs) She's one in a million
Thanks for the images makithecat - they're very beautiful.
This was written in the book the knife of never letting go and the ask and the answer. I only just realised how evil patrick ness is for using an actual folk song )<
Thank you Maki for posting. I appreciate the time and effort you put into finding the music to appropriate artists concepts of the correct time period. These Old English ballads are going to disappear. Aren't you glad Nan thought to express herself through this as well as music from her own country that reflect ages gone by. That sounds like a song to me!! LOL
Nana, how beautiful! I think this tune was used as the opening song (instumental) for a Canadian childrens show called The Friendly Giant. Many years ago.
@BuffRulz i was just thinking about Buffy and for some reason everytime i think about it- I remember this song hehe. Only true fans will always remember Buffy when they hear this song. Its a great little folk song.
@latay589 I agree, sad i have to follow the comics to get to my buffy needs. Thumbs up if you, like me, want buffy and/or angel to get more tv seasons. =)

@TheGrailbearer Right you are! It's a traditional folk song centuries old. I believe the tune was also the theme for The Friendly Giant.
