  • AAARGH! Brown Lad was easily the best horse on the day but was given FAR too much to do- who was the jockey? Carberry?

  • I think in fairness that the ground was too fast for Brown Lad. The softer the better for him. When the pace would quicken a mile out, he would struggle just as he did in Midnight Court's 1978 Gold Cup when he was again a strong finishing second. Unlucky that year because the race was run in April having been called off in March because of snow on the course. The ground that year would have been ideal for him - even more so if it had been 1975 when it was bottomless. Unlucky not to have won one.
