Yeah, miss those old rides. The boat ride into the television set, the virtually pointless Screamin' Demon, which looked scary as hell back in 1977. How about the spinning barrels where the platform lifted up at an angle? Biggest loss since corporate Paramount took over? The Beer Garden! King's Island used to reflect Ohio's German ancestry (s.p.) Paramount has put an end to that. Sad how "progress" erases things that sometimes are more important than they seem.
Thanks for posting this. I loved rides like the Bavarian Beetle, Screamin Demon, Zodiac double wheel and sky ride. Amazing how much this park has changed. At least they still have Beast, a few Coney rides and the steam train.
I first experienced Kings Island back in '75 and after that we went yearly until around '88 or so. The next time we were was after the Paramount fiasco, and we never went back. What a shame. But these videos bring back so many memories they almost made me cry. That 'Enchanted Voyage' ride was like an acid trip for kids. I vividly remember going through the giant clowns mouth (with those HUGE teeth) to this day. And it's sad that kids don't know any of the classic Hannah-Barbera characters now.
We use to travel from Baltimore to go back then each year. The last time I was there about 4 years ago it was not worth the trip. What a change Paramount did to what was one some of the greatest parks. Now they are not worth the trip. Hershey park, Dollywood Bush parks. Those are still great but still not what Kings Island was. I truly Hate Paramount for that they took away.
Wonderful. Do you have any idea how long I've been looking for Enchanted Voyage footage??? Not to mention the KI&MVRR, the Scooby-Doo Roller Coaster, the Racer, the Bavarian Beetle...what a great place Kings Island was in the 70s.
I don't suppose you or anyone else filmed the entire Enchanted Voyage, did you?
There really should be a K.I museum. I'm 34 and grew up going to the park. This video sure brings back the old school memories. The old Hannah Barbara boat ride. Those old log flumes.
I worked out at K.I back in the early 90's. Ah the memories...
Kings Island really went downhill when Paramount bought it in the early 90's. Admission skyrocketed, overfilling the park to the point where you couldn't even stand to wait in line for 3 hours to ride a 60 second roller coaster, mechanical failures, cost cutting in the construction of the rides causing deaths and injury. I just hope now that an cedar point owns KI that they try to strighten it out and make it an enjoyable place for the family again
WOW brings my childhood back. I must've been about 9 when this was taken. Log flume, spin & puke, sky tram, and the train ride what a blast. Too bad P-mount made it so commercialized. Thanks for the vid..
i agree..i was about to post something saying that everyone says that cedar fair is ruining kings island..but i was gonna say..UHH that might somewhat be but look at what paramount did to it and what rides they took out and look at what they replaced them with...
I want Kings island to bring back the shows along side the railroad tracks, I never got to experience it.

Kings Island was so much better back then, but wasn't everything?

Agreed. Hopefully CedarFair will bring some of that magic back. '09 looks to be a big step in the right direction. ;)

The Beast was the best roller coaster to ride as a kid. I was there around the time this footage was taken. Great memories. Thanks for sharing.

calakapepe 4 years ago 2
Yep, when the park 1st opened, it was the Scooby Doo, and unfortunately it's now called "The Fairly OddCoaster"
NiggaTubeDotCom 4 years ago
well even if it used to be called scoobydoo the beastie is way better than scoobydoo or fairly odd coaster
