  • Could listen forever

  • Great song.....really feel the emotion

  • Drunk rock and roll star sailing around the world trying to figure out why his love is slipping out of his hands. Pure magic! "sailing for tommarow and my dreams are a dying".....

  • LOVE this song! But the "I've been around the world" at 3:02 is hilarious!

  • "Why twice you ran away..." kills me every TIME...

  • I wish I could see America and CSNY together in concert.

  • Thanks for the wonderful share!

  • Beautiful poetry, plain and simple...thoughts put into a wonderful song!

  • music today sucks. good bands are few and far between.

  • if you like sailing and just breath taking images, check out the movie "Charlie St. Cloud".

    beautifully done.

  • "he's all that i have left and music is his name. sometimes he rocks me gently and whispers in my ear that i'll be alright, other times he's powerful and runs through me like a bolt of lightning giving me the hope i need to make it through another day. what heaven brought you and me, can not be forgotten."

" Spirits are using me, larger voices callin."

  • Nothing but good comes from this.

  • Lyric correction: It's not Papeete Bay. Papeete is four syllables...pronounced paw pee a tay :) So..."and the downhill run to Papeete".

    Great song...love it!

  • I called up Crosby and I called up Nash to see if they could get me some hash......

  • God bless you 98maxridestreet!

  • the drums

  • Beautiful harmony is un-decipherable to aliens , 11 have invaded our you tube !

  • perhaps the best song that C S N Y EVER done.the harmonies are damn near perfect. ive always wondered does he love the woman girl more than his ship or vise versa ?

  • @restlessbreed10 Listen to the harmonies in "After The Dolphin" & "Yours And Mine"

  • The southern cross isn't just a constellation-It's a place in key west, fl....he's talking about a lady he met there i believe??

  • it nash young not nash and young

  • I was a little lost about playing the drums, discovering this song (now) brought back what I love about music. I love to play drums.

  • Very spiritual song.

  • 10 people have never ventured outside their zip code

  • @Spending336 This is true, i had to go to germany then colorado, then florida where i saw the place called the 'southern cross' in key west, florida !! oops, i forgot about maine!!

  • spirits are using me, larger voices callin?????? hmmm..

  • CSNY love it!

We seen them @ least 7 times.

  • Thanks for the help my friends. The bar in Avalon is called, 'Luau Larry's' and it is on Catalina. This is the kind of thing ( discovering a songs true verbage ), that actually helps folks to know where he was coming from. It really does feel good to finally understand what he was speaking about. Thanks again friends and Peace always...

  • Thank you for helping me understand that he was speaking of an actual bar. I was pondering if he was speaking of 'King Arthur's' Avalon where the sword, Excaliber was pulled from the rock. That was the mythical place which I was speaking. I guess that I thought that phrase may have had a deeper meaning, but on his midnight watch he did realize why twice she ran away. Great stuff and thanks for the replies. Peace out!!!

  • i like songs of longing, and traveling, although i also really like CS&NY

  • This is an awesome song. 'In a noisy bar in Avalon, I tried to call you". Can anyone help me understand this phrase? To my knowledge, Avalon is a mythical place, and can anyone help with what was meant here? I have always wondered, but maybe someone can shed some light here. I love the song and please, let's keep any comments kind. Thanks!!!

  • @dajdooley its literally a bar he just stopped at to try and call his girl back 'home,' but while trying to call her, he realised the distance was too much for her to bear twice.

  • Avalon is a popular town and bay on Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California. A very popular anchorage for sailboats, and very pretty. You can google it to find pics. Cheers!

  • 2011 is drawing to a close (10 min)... This great song is still timeless ! Listening to it is how I choose to close out the year ! I can't believe this song only has 400 plus thousand hits.. Justin Bieber's "Baby Baby Baby" has 100 mill... really?

  • @RandyCodd (laughs) Unfortunately sir, we're outnumbered. There are a lot more nubile, empty-headed pubescent and pre-pubescent girls in the world than there are intelligent middle-aged men.

  • one of my all-time favorite songs

  • @astraia1x Same here , I just turned 56 and remember so well when it came out. Love the harmonies...

  • Thank you for letting me go back to my younger days of love and to appreciated NOW!!!

  • *Two Observations:

(1). It should be labelled "Crosby, Stills, and Nash." Young should be left out. The song was not recorded when Neil Young was in the group.

(2). I think people should also check out Jimmy Buffett's version. The original is (slightly) superior, but Buffett's version is also awesome.

  • I drank beer and smoked some dubbies with them in San Fran when I returned from Vietnam in 1967.

  • I drank beer and smoked dubbie with them in San Fran in 1967 when I

  • This song is awesome! i saw them play it live at red rocks last year and it was epic!

  • I see 8 dislikes. How can anyone dislike this song. It is so smooth, melodic and enchanting. Perhaps the people that get sea sick don't like this song. It is one of the best that CSN has ever recorded.

  • @wavin11369 I've given up starting sentences with "how can anyone"! There is a wide variety of fucked up people out there

  • @0532MOET lol so true friend....

  • Also the Song Sweet judy blue Eyes!

  • This song is About Judy collins Leaving David Crosby for Sweet baby james Taylor,

  • @PathfinderMac Thats just not so.(check Wikopedia)

  • Comment removed

  • @PathfinderMac Not true. David Crosby was never in an official relationship with Judy Collins, purely on again off again. Furthermore this song was written by Steven Stills after his divorce from his wife. Not David Crosby after breaking up with his booty call. Get your facts straight playa!

  • The greatest love song ever

  • Why christ she ran away

  • So unforgettable. Lovable. Beautiful!!! Love love love it. :)

  • not many a song invoke a tear, but this one does.

  • yo

  • @wvcatfish1970. i AGREE 100%

  • for a group of guys that played their 2nd gig ever at woodstock these guys are AWESOME and this is the greatest song ever

  • Yes! Thanks for sharing this amazing song..

  • One remarkable song!!!!!! Classic and timeless<3

  • What a treasure of musicians these guys are. Their music is so profound and impacting, lyrics to their songs are priceless. This is one of the most uplifting songs I have ever heard.

  • I like!

  • my parents owend a small store called southern cross and this was the only song they would play so i <3 this song

  • Ive just arrived from the UK to live here in the States and i hear this record on the radio and i think its a pearl of a track love it loads!

  • @futurecat71 I bet you're ready to go home now aren't you?

  • @amysita77 No not yet! lol! im gonna give afew years here and see how it goes have u been to England?

  • @futurecat71 No I haven't been to England. I'm just always hearing about how much the English hate Americans(like everyone else), so I figured you would be miserable by now.

  • @amysita77 No im not miserable yet lol!

  • was

  • we never failed to fail, it eas the easiest thing to do............ so true.....

  • When I watch the song with the lyrics, I paused at 2:41. I remember years ago reading a biography or autobiography about David Crosby loosing it all, the boat, the rare imported car, most of all his prized twelve string- at the end of the day all he was left with was music. I am glad he was able to overcome the obstacles in his life and continue to create great music!

  • @97fdexp There is a lesson for everyone in that statement... Never let the obstacles in your life stop you from chasing the dream!

  • Beautiful and perfect.

  • @plutonium9

    You said it.

  • honestly, i wonder if retards just have a problem and go around disliking things for no reason, or the case could be that they just dont really like it, but why take your time to hit the dislike button? im not judging peoples taste and music im just saying, i dont see anything to dislike about this, its amazing

  • somebody fine will come along make me forget about loving you... nobody writes lyrics like that anymore.when it comes to rock 50s -80s and half of the 90s sums up the best of music. music goes with the times and drugs of generations,L.S.D probably the best influence of all 8-D fun stuff with good times.

  • great guitar solo love it, love it

  • great song really :)

  • I love Richard Grieco forever and forever faihfully.

  • There are certain people who come into your life that will never be

replaced or forgotten! They are like an angel sent to light your path

in life. They are a priceless treasure sent from above!

  • @kathykay2010 Thats cool kathy ! yeah so true but ive found in life these people seem to come and go real quick!

  • @kathykay2010 your right, but when they pass on,saying it,s hard does,nt come close to what you feel,if you truly love them.this is turning into a soap opera.great song. WK

  • @kathykay2010 A beautiful statement. So eloquent , you are special and wise to the world, my friend....

  • My daughter used to think this music was corny but I told her I played it when I was in labor driving with her brother and sisters in the caravan and no one argued about the choice of music this time as no one argues with the woman in labor..now she embraces it..she is 15

  • @teacrazymama obviously your a modelMOTHER peace toyou andyours ma'am

  • I have been around the world

    nobody fine has come along

  • @disalitervisum

need a hug? Great tune w/ so much truth!

  • So we cheated and we lied and we tested

And we never failed to fail it was the easiest thing to do

    You will survive being bested

Somebody fine will come along make me forget about loving you

    At the southern cross.

  • If any of you can, remember the RMS Bermuda

  • their politics SUCK!!!!

  • back in the day this song first aired,...parrotheads would break out a bag and burn a bowl of 420,...kick back in their hammocks, and ask themselves this question: WHY THE FUCK DID I VOTE FOR JIMMY CARTER?!

  • @fidosharkone AND THAT'S BAD BECAUSE?

  • Here's a place in time that society forgot. When music was cool, groovy & innocent. Lyrics were clean and people were pure and unspoiled. Unlike today how media serves our kids a bunch of FILTH where lyrics of gang-sta rap & hip-hop are full of profanity, recording artists are horny sexual beings portrayed in videos & pop stars are admired for getting in trouble with the law - WHAT kind of CRAP is that ?? Just citing how societal erosion is deteriorating the very fabric that holds us together.

  • STILLS SAILBOAT IS AWESOME, AND SO IS HIS SONGWRITING

  • I was in love once too. An amazing lover. One day I was alone. Alone in the wreck on my life. Years latter my heart still hopes,... I dedicate this to BKP in Michigan. It was clean and good. BKP saved my from my ex, an evil person. It was an amazing year. The light and music danced with us. It still does. The trees still wisper,......At the Southern Cross

  • @bigdanbear

    Hope you find it again....

  • I thought it was bovine girl. Hey, people are into that...

  • just classic, timeless, beautifull, dont make music like this these days.

  • Great stuff maynard...

  • Great fucking song but then so is Raining Blood :)

  • best of all time candidate in backup vocal category

  • No better song to jam before you take one of those "leave to find myself" journeys

  • great music will live on... until the US department of "Justice" starts cracking down on free music like they have on poker/sportsbetting sites... Call your congressman and tell them to stay the fuck out of our computers!

  • 5 people didn't make it across the southern cross

  • a wise friend told me that this good music will never die. as long as there are people like us, this music will live on, forever in our hearts. Pass on the songs you know and love, and this music will last an eternity.

  • @98maxridestreet well said nice words of wisdom bud

  • @98maxridestreet Real music never will die. It's not cheap for a quick hit, it's eternal and only gets better with age.

  • @98maxridestreet I am listening with my five year old son! ;) I want to make sure he doesn't ever learn who Lady Ga Ga is ;)

  • @TakingTheRedPill69

right on. lady gaga is a joke. can't wait for her to fade into oblivion.

  • @TakingTheRedPill69 That's very noble of you sir, and I hope your son does like this song and develops good taste, but you've probably chosen an impossible task. Unless you put him under a rock, he'll find out about her sooner or later, unfortunately.

  • I live in Florida and have a Morgan 41'. There is nothing in this world like seeing the southern cross!

  • im tired of people dissing rap, why cant people just listen to a variety of music. and as for rap having no meaning, go listen to Tupac and tell me his lyrics dont mean anything.

  • @rylott1 I think people are commenting on the current rap music scene. Now listen to anything on the airwaves today and tell me if it makes any sense..................yeah it doesn't.

  • This song had a very special meaning to me when I got back from Somalia in 1983 when I saw the Southern Cross for the first time.

  • i think it's "foreign girl" not woman girl.

  • What's a "woman girl"??

  • @aegiswings ...thats a good question!.....to me; a "woman-girl" IS that special woman with the heart of a girl AND "Knows that LOVE CAN Endure!"......the search continues.....................LOL!

  • Its was actually CSN not CSNY who played this song.

  • @allforch17 If you want to be totally correct, it was SN. Crosby was not featured on this song. Stephen Stills - lead vocals and acoustic guitar, co-writer Graham Nash - vocals Michael Finnigan - keyboards and additional vocals Michael Stergis - acoustic guitar Timothy B. Schmit - backing vocals Art Garfunkel - backing vocals Rick Curtis - co-writer Michael Curtis - co-writer

  • @peachpuma13 well you're right bout that lol

  • @98maxridestreet Hey, thanks for the video, love this song. Hope you find Movemaker, but If you can't and you don't want to buy another copy, there is a free alternative from Microsoft called MS Photostory. Like this video, my vids are just still images and music, and I use Photostory to put them together. It's not got all the bells and whistles, but it is free.

  • @98maxridestreet Thanks for the lyrics. My best friend begged me to take off with him on hs 55' sailboat. ai lost him to a rare form of cancer 14 yrs ago. This song always tugs the heart strings for me. Thanks!

  • THANK YOU FOR THE LYRICS! They don't make GOOD music like this anymore. Today, they make dog shit.

  • Love this song. A word to the wise. When sailing if someone calls 'coming about" do yourself a favor and duck.

  • The lyric is just Papeete...not Papeete Bay. They just stretch it out but there is no Papeete Bay that I know of. Just the city in the French Polynesian island.

  • @98maxridestreet No worries friend. This is an important song. I'd always loved the music, but it wasn't till this "Karoke" video that I really dug the lyrics; i got chills. CSNY are genius; no doubt. This video is a respectful nod. Thanks for doing it.

  • 5 people haven't seen the southern cross for the first time...

  • I guess some one might have already suggested in the past, but this was a single by the first reunion of Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1981 or 82, not featuring Neil Young, who was busy for his solo acts in those days :)

  • This song is one of my all-time faves too. BRAVO! Thanks for the vid/lyrics!

  • Beautiful song. I've never sailed, but everytime I hear this song I think about taking it up. I guess you can't sail away from a broken heart and find "that woman girl who knows love can endure" at the Southern Cross. But I'd love to try.

  • @98maxridestreet i love that im not the only 13 year old girl who likes this kind of music! like you, i was raised to this fantastic era of music. i mean, just the fact that kids our age dont know who the beatles, elton john, crosby, stills, nash, young, led zeppelin and all those great bands and songwriters from the 60s to 2000 period just makes me frustrated. i wish i was born in the 70s! and im not saying that the singers today are all bad, but they will never compare to the greatness of this!

  • WOW This song takes my breath away!!!!!! This group takes me back to my teen days when they were first getting started in the 70's..... great song....thanks for posting :)

  • @98maxridestreet

    it alright(:

  • When this came out did anyone accuse them of ripping off from Bad Company?

It sounds a bit like Shooting Star and Feel like making Love.

  • @krunch1980 MAYBE SOUNDS A BIT LIKE THOSE SONGS IN PARTS, BUT AS JOHN LENNON SAID "THERE'S NOTHING THAT CAN BE WRITTEN THAT HAS'NT BEEN WRITTEN BEFORE" MUSIC IS CIRCULAR WITH JUST SO MANY BEATS AND MELODIES, SO EVENTUALLY IT ALL COMES BACK AROUND AGAIN.

  • Not half as good as 403's Southern Cross (This was in the suggestions so I clicked out of curiosity)

  • @KeroroFan123

If 403 was on my sailboat, I would push them overboard.

  • @hottubbrad MmmHmm.

Well 403 are just amazing and wouldn't care if you threw them overboard your boat.

Why would they be on it in the first place?

  • @98maxridestreet

Try going to cnet.com. I have seen it for XP and Vista. Hope it helps. :)

  • #2 on my all time personal "best thing you ever heard" list.

Kicks my ass every time I hear it.

"So we cheated and we lied

    And we tested

And we never failed to fail

It was the easiest thing to do.

    You will survive being bested.

    Somebody fine

    Will come along

Make me forget about loving you."

  • @hammerogod ....yes, AWESOME song! 1 of the anthems of my life!

  • young was not involved in this song dumbass it was before young get your shit straight. but you should get a silver star for your effort not a gold star. oh maybe you should try reality

  • Probably my second favorite song

  • @M16second whats your first?

  • @98maxridestreet Limelight by Rush

  • @M16second at the moment i cant make anymore videos, sorry! long story, but if your a big rush fan, my brother has a few rush videos, his account is urallmuckers. hope that helped any, ill post limelight when i can.

  • i love this song yay thanks from uploading it ^.^

  • @M16second Huge Rush fan. Being a drummer, one has to love some Rush.

  • @actor4nyc Yeah Neil Peart, the best of the best!

  • Way to like the most popular songs by artists

  • <3 I dance to this song in recital next day. This song was awesome when I danced to it.like a lot of dancers in this dance. <3 My favorite part completely grabbed my attention! I <3 this song

  • Rap Sucks. Kill, rob, mug, shoot, stab everyone you see. So you can go to prison or be executed, come on people, tons and tons of fun. It will never match this song or music. None of the popular music will ever match this. Never. The jam bands can match this, but none of the top forty garbage can even come close to this. In their dreams, Justin Beiber and Lady Nothing can't do this. Not now and not ever. CSN are still the best. Thank you for posting this.

  • hey peeps! I am aware of the song request that you have. I'm currently working on some of them, though sadly I dont have all of them on my library. If you ever have a song request and I dont have it, I'll let you know ASAP. 'cause I dont know about y'all, but I hate not knowing if people ever got my requests. :)

  • Howdy fr: Atl: Ga. I Love this song so glad your sharing. Thank You for loving tune's.

  • THANK YOU for posting song w/ lyrics. They had been lost on me for all these years until I saw the words before me. I appreciate the song even more now.

  • I first heard this song from listening to Planet Rock on DAB radio and was blown away. That is the station to listen to to discover good music! Rock on!

  • Four people didn't make it to the Southern cross

  • Jimmy Buffett does a great cover of this on one of his live albums. Check it out!

  • if you believe history repeats its self, what goes around comes around,karma...then who would be csn&y successors to the throne of righteous harmonies.....?

1.probably not in my lifetime(the way things are goin they gonna crucif...)

    2.all i see are squares(sponge bob in a bad way...mainstream sucks)

3.why are we being punished...wwwwhhhyyyyyyy(in the year 2525....)

  • Hey people! I know I've said this before but I'll say it again. If anyone has any song request, I'll see what I can do. I don't have to many songs in my library but if I have it I'll make a video to it. So if anyone has a favorite song that they love please tell me, I'm completely out of ideas.

  • @98maxridestreet Suite Judy Blue Eyes. If you can get on YouTube with it loud.

  • @98maxridestreet
