I can't believe that people can actually think that something that awesome and intricate could have came from spinning space dust and BILIIONS of years....You know I may not be able to explain where my God came from, but I bet you can't tell me where your space dust came from either...unexplainable dust? or an all powerful being? I mean really think about it
Important... He said, "Tallest -living trees- on the planet."
If you want to talk about the tallest trees of the past, like, 80 or 120 years ago, you would have to say it was either the Douglas fir or Eucalyptus Regnans.
My videos give evidence of Douglas firs which grew in rare cases, 400 to 480 feet high. Those were rare cases, and hardly any firs now reach 300 feet nowdays -- when in the past, 300 feet was common in ancient forests.
“The timber began to get larger and by the time we had traversed three miles into the trail we viewed countless numbers of gigantic fir trees growing not less than fifty feet apart and towering at least 360 feet into the air.” Deming Trail, Whatcom Co. Wa. Bellingham Herald - July 10, 1909
Nat Geo posted a 44 minute video Climbing the Redwoods on Youtube. It includes part of this. Just search Climbing the Redwoods. Excellent photography.
These people and others like them are the reason most forests get saved from logging industry. "The wild trees" great audio book as well. I listened to it while driving to the Redwood National Park, I had a whole new appreciation
These trees are amazing but the point of these poeples job eludes me.... the trees are there whether we know how tall they are or not.... they better devote their energy to saving other trees in danger of being logged......
Yeah, but I think just making videos showing how beautiful the trees are, and measuring how increadibly massive they are makes the trees more real to viewers, who will in turn (sometimes) will feel some duty to preserve them. I used to marvel at trees 1/10th the size of these!
point of these peoples jobs? lol Steve is a canopy scientist , he researches canopys and specializes in redwoods.!The others are naturalists! lol there are other jobs that preserve trees!
Dont get me wrong, i dont like trees being logged
"The Wild Trees" by Richard Preston A MUST read for tree lovers and those who wish to broaden their minds. Michael Taylor and Steve Sillet are both intimately profiled.

The oldest single living organisms known are bristlecone pines, though some plants such as creosote bush or aspen form clonal colonies that may be many times older.
One of the 2 men who located Hyperion is in this video - seems that he's dropped off the radar lately. Anyone seen him in California or heard of his whereabouts? So far, I've found two of the prime discovery groves, for the largest redwoods, where Iluvatar and Lost Monarch are at. If you Google "mdvaden" and "grove of titans" you will find my page quick. If anyone has not read The Wild Trees yet, snag a copy.
Only the Redwood, and possibly the Douglas-Fir may reach beyond 350 feet. The Sitka Spruce and Noble fir may grow nearly as tall, and both can exceed 320 feet.
very refreshing views, so good for meditation.

Height is a funny thing. You think 400ft for a tree is incredible but you see a sign 'traffic signal in 700 ft' and it seems like no distance at all.

At LEAST. The more you learn about these trees, the more you see the accuracy of that statement.
The time I've spent in the redwood forests has inspired me to change my educational goals, and focus on a career in conservation.

Calif. State Park Ripoff #1-- Many Roads Leading to State Parks are designated
"Under Contruction" with Signs that warn "Fines will be Doubled". It Does not matter
if its a Day when no workers are present or no contruction is visable (Very Frequent).
The CHP Lurks in these areas looking for Campers because they know that "Out of Towners" cannot Show Up to defend themselves. Enjoy Our State Parks---

Not only are they the tallest trees in the world, but they are also the oldest trees in existence on the entire planet, dating over 2,000 years.
YogaNate79 3 years ago 3
Actually, there are junipers older, and Bristlecone pines that are twice as old.
jstrouse 2 years ago
@YogaNate79 Not only that, There's a park down my road that has a peice of a 3,000 year old tree.
