A fantastic documentary however I don't understand why RR is so proud of their orders for large engines when clearly the largest and most powerful jet engines in the world are the GE90-115B used on the 777-300ER
Do you watch shows that you steal? This is called "How to build... A Jumbo Jet Engine". It is an episode of "How to build..." show made by BBC. It is not about the 787, it is about Rolls-Royce. The title and the description on this video are totally misleading.
does anyone know when the B787 arrives here in the UK yet? I THINK Thomson is the first one due to fly it commercially in this country...cheers for any info
Amazing. That new birth engine much large size, more powerful technologies and strong blade kill against bird strike. Bye-bye a old technology can kill the people cause failure engine. That Trent will install a Boeing's new model much improve, B777, B787, B747-8 also Airbus A380. But I shocked that Qantas's A380 trouble engine. Who responsible checking a engines on before take off & after landed.
@Mocib Yeah, I know, it's Gerard Fletcher from Coronation Street. At first I really thought it was James May, and it made sense for like a minute, since he's into aviation.
I'm really disappointed that every damn new plane that debuts looks almost identical to the last: Two engines on the wings. They all look like A-300 clones.
When a radical redesign of this stale template takes place, then I'll get excited
GE engines are cheaper the Rolls Royce!. That is why GE was used here for testing if anything goes wrong in test mess up the crappy cheap stuff like GE!. Do some research before making outrageous claims like GE is better then Rolls Royce, people like you are the reason for B,C,D grade market think a 20kcar is the same as a 80k car? And also hand made Rolls Royce Vs. Robots GE.
@Bourne246 Yeah... My dad works for Boeing in the new Charleston plant, and he said they sent him a dvd in the mail with a bunch of real documentary stuff on it.
jeez...I guess it's things like this that kind of throw a wrench into peoples stupid juvenile arguments about "why my country makes the better airplane"
oh well...I guess your country's manufacturing company engineered one of the most vital components and his country produces another vital component...both of which the airplane couldn't fly without...but my country still makes the best airplanes!
I work as a Supervisor Administrator for the ground handling at the airport and ever since I started I have the bug. Boeing 787 is my dream plane and RR engines are the best for me!
This Docu was just the best! Any tips maybe on other similar Docu's for me to watch?
WOW! You mean something is actually built in Britain??? How long before they are taxed heavily and decide to move? On a more serious note, the skill and engineering involved in astronomical and deserves a high quality documentary about them.
@16MattC Businesses of this ilk don't leave because of high taxation (in fact very few businesses leave because of high taxation in general). This kind of high-tech engineering, where every single unit produced has to work - as opposed to consumer electronics, where a certain amount of duds are factored in - would be very difficult to set up in the Far East. The only credible place to move to would be Germany, where taxes are higher anyway, and the USA, which already has 2 aero engine makers.
@turricaned What about Switzerland, low taxes and have a high skill level. It would be easy to set up there. The minimum wage is lower too so can save money.
@16MattC Not enough people with the right skills for starters (and a very high cost of living which makes the minimum wage argument moot). You shouldn't believe everything the conservative press says about taxes being bad, by the way, without tax revenue, you wouldn't have roads to transport the engines on or a decent level of healthcare for your workforce among other things.
The only people threatening moves to Switzerland are the bankers - frankly they can bugger off for all I care.
@keeyanwest1981 that wasn't just one fan blade, that was an entire ring of turbine blades, no fan case is built to withstand a whole ring plus other bits and bobs smash into it
Jeez...This more like a RR documentary, rather than a 787 documentary...:)

What are they talking about the GE engines are way better than The Rolls Royce.
I don't want to go into detail.
I also couldn't help but notice, but this documentary is mostly about the engines, There was hardly any thing about the plane itself.
krew8pops 3 months ago
@krew8pops Way better? Don't think so. Boeing didn't use Rolls Royce engines on the demonstrator aircraft because GE are better did they
