Almost 50 years ago my mom played Jerry Vale records while she did her housework. I knew all his music backwards and forwards from the age of 12. It wasnt until many years later, however, that I came to a true appreciation of how beautiful songs like this are. Thanks Mom! And thank you for posting this. It brought back a lot of memories
This hit by Jerry Vale hit #14 on the Top 40 charts. It would finish at #59 for the year, 1956. On July 9, 1955, Bill Haley and His Comets hit #1 with Rock Around the Clock, signifying the start of the Rock Era. On April 21, 1956, Elvis Presley hit #1 with Heartbreak Hotel, shooting this new sound into the stratosphere.
thank god for you tube , go into any record shop in the uk and ask for jerry vale , they have to check on the computer , fucks sake , ha ha , still the ones that know of jerry are the chosen few , many thanks ......
excellent, from back in the good ole days, they just don't sing like this these days. you surely have to look back to hear such songs and when music was music. It was a whole different generation.
Eddy Arnold suggested the theme for this song, and the great song writer Cindy Walker fleshed out the lyrics. She gave co-writer credit to Mr. Arnold. Both Mr. Arnold and Willy Nelson had hits with this recording, but I agree with what most have said here, Jerry Vale's version is the best.
5/17/10 WHAT CAN ANYONE SAY ABOUT THESE LYRICS. AND WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT JERRY VALE INTERPRETING THESE LOVE SONGS. MAY YOU BE CLONED AND LIVE FOREVER. roselli
for listening pleasure i would put jerry vale in a studio with nat king cole and let them have "Turns of peace".both different voices, but such wonderful listening pleasure for music lovers to enjoy. i'm a dreamer. is it allowed?
This came out when I was in high school. A theme song for a shy guy. It fit right in with another favorite: "The Great Pretender" by the Platters. Used to try and analyze "Pretender" to understand why their arrangement was so appealing.

@supastudmuffen Oh, no! This song was written by and recorded first by Eddy Arnold, though Ray Charles did have by far the largest selling recording.
