  • these great guys were on my best song list over & again.

whether it's 'heaven knows' or'bella linda' that choke me up

or 'temptation eyes' & "midnight confessions' that move my

feet, I just thank God that I was there when they were. saw

two concerts & met Rob Grill..timeless precious music!

  • When you watch these videos, you see so many RIP messages. I didn't know Rob Grill died - boy, life is really sad sometimes - so many great music makers gone.

  • Lucio Battisti. Versione carina ma mai quanto la versione di Lucio.

  • R.I.P. Rob Grill

  • If Lucio was born in England he was like the Beatles.

  • my very favorite song by the grassroots and my very favorite60/70 group

  • Questa canzone dimostra che il grande Lucio Battisti ha fatto colpo sul mondo anglosassone!!!

  • his name was LUCIO BATTISTI..one step higher than god

  • Wow....I had totally forgotten about this song....thanks for posting it !

    Rob...RIP...!!

  • @EVIEHEARS I love artists / tunes from yesterdecades. I wonder where this was videoed and what is this "Linda" doing today? I'd like to go to that very location where this was filmed.

  • thanks for the memories Rob!! RIP

  • Thank You Rob for ALL the great songs and memories,57 years old, the greatest of times and music, the 60's and 70's RIP ROB AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU

  • I have a hard time choosing a favorite by this group because they had so many great songs; but this one is certainly near the top of my list!

  • This is my favorite Roots tune!!

  • Thanks for sharing this rarity!! I love the conceptual video and this is superb as is the song!!! R.I.P. Rob Grill and Rick Coonce!!

  • Heaven has gained a great singer and musician. We were blessed to have Rob as long as we did. Maybe he was too good for this world. His music will live on. RIP beautiful Rob.

  • Rest in Peace Rob, We'll miss you

  • R.I.P. Rob. The Great Gig In The Sky Greets Another Great Bass Player

  • Getting old does suck. However, we have memories that most generations can't even image. We had a lot of very talented original singers and bands that spans a lifetime of talent.

  • Getting old sucks, although I love this song, it's depresses me, when I think how young I was when it came out. Just food for thought for all the young people out there that think old age is a long way off for it comes fast and the older you get the faster it comes, so don't squander your youth.

  • @jtsct Boy, isn't that the truth! I remember the Grass Roots on American Bandstand. It seems like

last year and it was almost 40 years ago! It is bittersweet to watch now, knowing Rob passed yesterday.

  • Comment removed

  • @jtsct please don't be depressed. u are so lucky to be from that era. that's when music was real and meant something!

  • @jtsct Yes, you're right, time goes terribly fast. I do not feel depressed about it, though. I was 13 years old when I heard it the first time and I dug it a lot. Now, three grandchildren later I still dig it. Age is nothing, but health is the most important thing, if you do not have that everything sucks.

  • Creed should regrow that stash for "The Office".

  • The Grass Roots are one of my fave bands, and I LOVE this song...

  • I love the way this video is done. Its so artistic. And being out in the nature. Very pretty.

  • WOW dude in my book you are a historian for this post. Wow.

  • An incredibly fantastic band of their time. I keep listening to this song!

  • RIP Lucy Saroyan.

  • Warren, Rob and Creed - handsome guys!

  • great song. pretty lady. thanks for posting...

  • Such a beautiful song. Wish I could have been her.

  • Creed's mustache kicks ass!

  • Oneof the first great music videos

  • RIP Lucy Saroyan, so beautiful. You'll live forever in this video!

  • I always loved Warren- the shot of him ag 1:08 is insanely sexy! :)

  • Of course, I meant AT 1:08!! Funny how I make a typo while watching a closeup of Warren.....!

  • Creed!!

  • She got to be cornered by all four of them! Lucky girl! haha. (especially being cornered by Rob <3 )

  • american beatles? i think so.

  • This song was popular when I met the first love of my life: Sarah. Baby, I'll never forget you and will love you eternally.

  • Late 60's and the 70's were the Best, what a time to be an American !

  • One of their best ever, IMO!

  • ..All these years...and I have not ever forgotten this song..My first love( I was 15..so you are right , Miss Taylor Swift..:} ) played this song for me...I almost cried..and he would not ever know that this touched my life, for many many years...I still think of him when I hear this song,.. I can remember that night, as if it were yesterday..and it was 1968..I was in High School. Thank you, DWL...

  • @seasideshelby1 -- Hi Shelby, all these years and I have not forgotten this song either, but I was 11 and not yet bothered by love. The best time in life, perhaps, is when you're just old enough to like a love song, yet too young to wrangle with love itself.

  • I just found out the woman in the video was the daughter of author William Saroyan and she recently died.

  • Warren Entner at 1:08...sigh...

  • this band is actaully really good...creed has got some chops

  • SCIPPO!!

  • This is one of my favorite roots song... I really like the way it was sung ...

rob was such a cute guy ... m wondering with whom he was going around at that time ;) !?! I guess millions of girls must have been chasing him. Well, if i had lived during that time I guess I'd been one of them *lol* ...

  • 60's music is the best. Also 1:08 is Creed from the Office in case you didn't know

  • @MaizeRage47

    Actually, Creed's at 1:21.

  • @jamrobarm The mustache guy? I guess I was distracted by the facial hair. Oh well, I tried :)

  • @MaizeRage47 In true form (Creed-Office style), he's the first up and after the girl as she runs away!

  • pseudo-sgt. pepper's. a la strawberry fields. lol. still good though.

  • Creed from the Office looks so cool in this video!

  • @fumetti Yeah check out the soulful shot of him at 1:20.

  • it's a lucio battisti song!an italian myth! died in 1998 in milan.. listen his songs in you tube!!!by

  • @chris974able1 Grandissimo Lucio Battisti,speciale!

  • Creed Bratton in this video reminds me alot of Brandon Flowers from The Killers. Just when they have the 'staches though.

  • One of the songs that the Monkees turned down. First, sad to day, or many.

  • This is the best video I've seen of Creed Bratton from "The Office" while in this band.

  • Bella Linda es como decir: guapa Linda, aquí Linda es nombre propio y Bella es un adjetivo del nombre.

  • Bella es un sinonimo de la palabra guapa, hermosa o linda en castellano.

  • the guys look ridiculously similar to pink floyd during their arnold layne and see emily play days..!

  • What's ridiculous with that? Everything is similar to anything.

  • Love this song, and the video. Must've been fun making it, (the video). I didn't think they were going to catch her. Like something from Castaneda's 'Don Juan' books. A female Don Genaro!

  • This is their best song-reminds me of the Beatles!

  • this vintage music vidio..

  • toward dthe end she is showing them the 3rd eye goes right here.!

  • Good point! But frankly, I think the guys

were going to have their way with here,

    whether she consented, OR NOT!

  • Great early music video...looks like it was filmed in Chatsworth Park, San Fernando Valley, L.A. Does anyone know WHY Grass Roots changed the title & lyric "Balla Linda" to Bella Linda? I adorded this song in 1969 in the US, and moved to Rome in '72 when I heard the wonderful original by Lucio Battisti. Listen to it, folks: "Balla Linda".

  • go creed lol

  • Rob sings so GREAT in this song.....love his voice... love you Rob!!!! Thanks for posting

  • CREED!!!! lol wow this is hilarious!

  • My fav group of the 60's..especially this song

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • Love the close ups of all the guys!

  • Jay Lasker, 350 pounds of blubber.

  • I'm italian...I'm happy that the grass roots covered this italian song...because I like both versions=)

    sorry... I don't speak english very well=)

  • Lucio Battisti-Balla(not Bella) Linda

  • uh, "Bella"= Beautiful (Linda)

    what does "Balla" mean?

  • @earthmother

    Balla= Dance(linda)

the original title is "balla linda" of lucio battisti!!

  • balla means dance.

    linda is an italian name

  • It's "bella" meaning beautiful, not "balla."

  • The girl is called "Linda" just because of how it sounds, since this song is a cover of the Italian "Balla (and not bella) Linda" meaning: "Linda, dance!"

  • WHich one is Pam?

  • One of the most underrated American bands from the 60's who had a ton of hits. They charted 29 records and were on the Billboard charts for 307 consecutive weeks. Lucy Saroyan who is the girl in the video was an actress who died in 2003 of hepatitis C at age 57.

  • Interesting thing about Lucy Saroyan, she was actually the daughter of Carol Grace and Wiliam Saroyan, the author...after they divorced, Carol Grace married Walter Matthau. Kind of cool that she's Walter Matthau's stepdaughter, imo. :)

  • The girl is Lucy Saroyan.

  • Thanks, she looked vaguely familiar.

  • why did they call her linda then>?

  • Great song and video this is even better than the shit on the radio now!!!!!!

  • right on!!!!

  • well said

  • @boners2nite Amen

  • On the "Golden Grass" album, there was a really great beautiful haunting song called "Melody". Could yo please post it?

  • They had an unmistakeable sound.....loved them!

  • oh shit it's Creed from The Office around 0:30.... who knew he'd go on to be in an Emmy winning show??

  • It makes me wish Creed Bratton still had the same mustache and beard in his role on "The Office." She looks familiar from the late 60s, does anyone know who the girl is?

  • This was probably shown on some variety show. The first time I saw what went on to be called a "music video" was a vid of the Beatles singing "Strawberry Fields Forever" on the Holllywood Palace. I remember that the Grassroots' singer, Rob Grill, had a close call about year before this vid at the beginning of a performance in L. A. and almost got electrocuted.

  • Nobody sings it like Lucio Battisti, but I was surprised to find out that the Grass Roots translated the original "Balla Linda", and that there was even a video !!! Nice Job.

  • holy crap...they made a vid?!?! I love them so much...grew up listening to them.

  • I have NOT heard this song in about 40 yrs. The video IS a surprise since I have never seen it nor did I know it existed! great song! Waldo is right, it is what we had back then. Color was still a novelty! de Craig

  • molto meglio quella del grande lucio

  • wheres the glorious color!!!!?!?!?!

  • Markthompson123: It was 1969, for cryin' out loud. You're lucky to even have a film record of this song. It was rare at the time; rarer still to have survived to the present. I hunted for years for this.

BTW, moronic excess in the use of punctuation marks doens't help your case.

  • hey its how i feel plus i know theres a color version but i guess this is pretty rare

  • Waldo is correct

  • GREAT SONG, BEAUTIFUL YOUNG LADY.

  • Waldo is darn right!

  • Don't know if it has been mentioned, but Lucio Battisti wrote this song and it was a big hit in Italy too.

  • How long before some ultra-lefty feminist finds this video, declares a "stalking" film, and gets it banned?

  • the chick is blind

  • bella linda meenza dat lugosi he love linda darnell, but she no l,ove heem Itza hollywood sad

  • Woo, this song is really good.

  • Who's the chick?

  • Wow, to learn that this and "Live For Today" were remakes of Italian songs, 40 years later...You learn something new everyday...

  • Another wonderful pop classic from one of my all-time favorite pop groups!! This is actually a very ground breaking video & very ahead of it's time, (well before MTV). I love this song & I love the video too, it's too groovy!! Thanks for posting, Gary in PA USA

  • this song was written by the great italian musician Lucio Battisti with the original title "balla Linda". the grass roots covered italian songs like this one and "Live for Today" , "piangi con me" in italian. i don't know how they did this, but there is a romanticism in their music which is clearly similar to italian music.

  • these guys are great <33

  • One of the very best American groups from the 60's and early 70's. Rob Grill, Creed Bratton, Warren Entner and the remainder of the Grass Roots are one of the few that could make number 1 hits while the Beatles were in their prime. Kudos to them for their great music.

  • They had a very pretty song called 'Melody for You" on their first album, wish I still had it. It's not available on Youtube.

  • @kwixotic I KNOW that tune.. I am old enough to have heard it when it came out..ITS a BEAUTIFUL tune...My first love, D'arcy introduced me to the Grassroots Musical talents..I have loved their music ever since..and that was in ..1968...He even played the song " Bella Linda" for me, I almost cried...I was 15.

  • I picked up a pile of Grass Roots albums at a garage sale once and they became one of my first favorites. I am "Linda," so always had a soft spot for the "Linda" songs.

  • do you know the barry manilow 'song for linda' - it's one of his early ones but a good song.

  • Holy Smokes,what a trip. vintage , classic,pure 60's wish I'd a been there.

  • Wow ... at last ... I remember I heard this song many years ago, but I never knew who was singing ... AND AT LAST ...after 30+ years I found it .... a hard to find ..... I feel blessed today ... ha ha ha ha ..... BELLA LINDA means beautifl, pretty

  • I too didn't know who was singing this song.I always loved it growing up in the sixties and just found out on youtube that it was the Grass Roots. I love this song. Great flashbacks of back in the day. Does anybody know where this song was on the charts?

  • Grass Roots had so many great songs. Another fabulous song you never hear on radio anymore. Probably only on satellite!

  • I heard let's live for today

    yesterday on the radio

  • ThePariahPublic: Yay for you. Your point?

  • Classic!

    Thanks!!

    George Vreeland Hill

  • canzone di Lucio Battisti

  • I couldn't understand what they were saying , Bella lalingua is what I heard but at ten it didn't matter what the words were, just the music

  • Step One is check the song title of the post. Granted the audio quality is poor, but it's "Bella Linda." Then go on-line and look up the lyrics, you should be fine after that.

  • great back in the day, even better now..

wow..never knew there was a 'video' haha.

    pedro d.

  • Creed is at 2:29 !!

  • Thanks, I thought that one looked the most like him, but I wasn't sure. I didn't even know which version of the band he was in.

  • LOL. I only checked out the band due to Creed's involvement, and while the tunes are kickin', Creed certainly looks like one hell of a weirdo in every video, haha.

  • BELLA BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!

  • pass me one

  • Balla Linda by Lucio Battisti,The original

  • admissad and sopwith74, two pathetic negative attention getters. Too bad they had to leave such ugly comments on this board. Bella Linda is one beautiful song.

  • i do agree with you! have a happy life!

  • 60s the best time, the best music. Awesome

  • dont forget about the weed

  • Hierba? Yeah, but I think it´s unnecessary.

Music, Meditation, LOVE: uplifts the spirit,

    makes reach the heaven.

    God bless you

  • ....=)

  • I'm smiling like when I was eight and used to listen to all those wonderful fairy tales... In which a golden God came from somewhere up there and brought all the people in a golden cloud where they could live, and it was called heaven.....

  • Lol, that's because I was drunk... But think on it, my totally useless and senseless comment it's still there, while yours has been marked as spam. Life sure is strange.

  • very song

  • I love all the Grassroots' songs but this one always "stayed" with me. Miss hearing it for so many years. Awesome tune!

  • Grande Battisti!

  • We won't see or hear music like this done again, thanks to the music??? industry. At least if this band was "fabricated", back then, band fabrication was MUCH better than today.

  • usually italians copy other...but sometimes no...

    Battisti rulez!!!

  • I hadn't listened to this song before today.

I think this is my favorite Grass Roots song now.

  • I forgot all about this song! I'm getting chills, hearing it again for the first time in way over 40 years! Awesome! THANKS!

  • this video is so awesome...... can you believe creed does quality assurance at dunder mifflin now? CREED RULES!! and damn that girl is pretty i guess i should say was..

  • @anirban0 I thought it was quabity assuance.

  • The flip to this was titled " hot bright lights"

  • Well,i did not know

  • I had this record as a kid & played the hell out of this song. What an exellent horn arrangement!

I happen to still own about 18 Grass Roots 45's.

The Grass Roots had a heck of alot of soul for such a commercially successful band.

    IMO.

  • I think you meant string arrangement.

  • My bad.

    god, I love this song!!!

  • Really nice song!

    I didn't know him before

  • Dude take your meds & move back to NAZI Land....people like you make me SICK. You never share your feeling and everybody hate you because of your mental problems.Mommy hung a cork-chop around your neck just to get the puppy to play with you.Your dog grew up first chance he ran away. God loves ya....ha your not his favorite!!!

  • this was done pre-mtv and is one of the best music videos. if i was that girl, i would stop in my tracks to get closer to rob and warren. PL&TGR

  • Heck, not only would I stop to get closer to Rob and Warren, I would chase them. The Grass Roots were great. Love this video.

  • beautifull song!!

  • I love this less often played song. Thanks for posting.

  • Love this song

  • grande lucio

  • sempre bravo lucio battisti
