this is actually called a half square knot if you have someone hold the end its easier and quicker if no one will hold the end tie the end to something to keep it nice and taught (: this makes nice necklaces and bracelets but it looks nice for the hair too ^.^
For the "outer suit", you have 2 strands in each ball... is this the 11 yards of each colour folded over, or 2 11 yard lengths of each colour in each of the 2 balls?
I have another question for you.. Lol I know i've asked a million of them but how do i get the balls of yarn on the side to have to open ends?? you tie them together but when i tried to do this I used a ruler since i didn't have measuring tape like you and i just looped it together into a ball but i don't have 2 ends like you did.. Lol what did i do wrong here Lol I'm so lost. cause i really wanna make these
so basically its the "under over, under over" rull of macreme, i have never thought of making yarn falls this way, thx for helping me expan my horizons!
You know what works well is if when you are macrameing (sp) using a clip board to hold the base yarn taut so you can pull the yarn easily, just a lil tip from my days of macremeing hemp!
I don't usually make a full set of these, I use them as an accent to a set that has an easier twisting technique because it takes at least three hours to make just one strand. For a full set of falls [half of the pair] you will need at least 40-45 strands. That will take a loooong time which is why I only make about six and use them as an accent for a different set of falls, as seen on my other video [how to: install hair falls]
Same way, just with no hair elastics, all you have to do is make a knot with the thread braid for about three inches then start the macrame, then braid again for the other end.
Thanks It's a really good alternative for people who can't have real ones. I think It's the best kind because if one changes their mind they can take it off instead of having to cut all your hair off lol.
heya doll, fabulous demonstration, just a quick question, how do you determine how long the pieces for the outer suit need to be compared to the length of the core?? &&keep up the fab work <3
Thank you for the complements :) It really depends. I have no exact method, I just estimate at first, that's why I used the open ends to start with so that i can add more to the outer suit if needed. I went to a lot of trial and error to see how this will turn out so play with it a little hehe. All I know is that you should never go less than 6 yards.
Your instruction on this method is one of the clearest and easiest to follow that I found. Threadbanger's bracelet macramae (on the road trip) was very confusing. You have a great teaching voice, too. Very calming and not hyper. Thanks so much. I'm wanting to make these into small wig-type pieces for children with cancer who have lost their hair. They look great, fun, young, and very happy. Thanks for your video.
Thank you for all your kind words. I'm glad that this tutorial will be able to help children feel a little better :) If you can, please take pictures! I'd love to see them.
I really like the look of these, but with the time it must take to work with sooooo much yarn, it seems like it isn't really worth it, when braiding is so quickly and easy. Kudos to you for your dedication though lol
Lol it does take a lot of time to make it, but it's very much worth it to me, the finished look is just so much better and fuller than any other yarn fall techniques :)
Thank you :) I have an Etsy account but haven't had the chance to set it up. I've been selling yarn falls for a while now, and because of the amount of time and effort needed to make it, I have a permanent price chart on it, hehe.
One set on a elastic or one strand? It really depends on how long and how many you make. With the 22" I was making on the video it took me several hours to finish just one strand. It took me three months to make 140+ strands. But you can always set your own time and go at your own pace.
A full set for one section can be 50 to 70+ on a ribbon depending on how thick you want it to be. I usually sew in more falls on finished strands for a more fuller look. I might make a tutorial about that in the near future.
I use to make bracelets like that all the time.. pin it in to the couch or a pillow and just go to town! But your yarn falls are much much more time consuming and intricate!
Where did u learn this?

Luv your craftyness! I remember doing this pattern in girlscouts making friendship bracelets!
I also Luv Threadbangers! Ive been a fan of theirs from the beginning!
You should sell these on Etsy too!
I think they sell for about 5 dollars a bunch [6 dreads to a bunch] but I think you can get more because yours are more detailed!
Good Luck!
