Does wiccan have a lot of syncretic elements to it from catholicism/christianity? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to wiccan practices. I know a lot about brujeria and santeria, which have very many syncretic elements between them and catholicism (saints, rosaries, prayers, etc.)
I cannot justify myself in showing respect for any religion that debases another human being, nor holding women in subjection of men. I am witch through and through and value nothing of the Christian or Muslim religions who do just that! I am tolerant of their beliefs, but not respectful.

@badhabitslounge We never did a full moon ritual. But we did do one for Samhain and it...just...wow. The room temp actually dropped like 15 degrees when we opened the Western Gate. My room is small and it gets pretty warm what with like 15 lit candles. I was able to speak with the spirit of my late boyfriend. He had me lay my head in his lap. It was...well...magical.

I truly wish I could do all these things, but.... I'm only 15. I'm still stuck in my house. I don't have the means to do all this. My mother is christian and extremely superstitious. My town is extremely afraid of anything witchy (they even argued over moving halloween away from sunday). I'm trapped.

Is it for like an essay or something or for personal understanding? You could also collect some information of Scott Cunningham. It's been a long time since I researched the legalisation of Wicca, but he was one of the first to dare to write a book about Wicca to public. Raymond Buckland had great influence in spreading Wicca in America.
I would say it is for personal understanding...in the form of an assignment. I have been designing my own "schoolwork" as I study Wicca and Witchcraft. I agree about Cunningham. Currently into the second book of Silver Ravenwolf. I know shes not "foolproof" but I dont mind researching what I read at all! In the advanced work, Ill be working with the Deborah Lipp book, after the third SRW book. Anyone curious about how I am self-teaching welcome to PM me.
Ooh, hehehh, I thought you're not that deep in Wicca yet, thus did I write the things I wrote. Hmm, I guess I wouldn't be able to help you unless I really looked up some good books of mine. I can, however, suggest Advanced Witchcraft from Edain McCoy for you. It leaves out the basic, and really writes as if she wrote for a fellow witch, which gives a very nice, personal touch to the book. It's Fluffy Bunny style for looks, but I found it great.
@kalacs32 one problem i do have is memorizing things. i do read my rites, etc, as i go along. ive read you MUST memorize things, but i cannot...due to disability. how else can i manage things like circlecasting and the Charge, etc?
@safehouse123 Hmm...I depends. You don't actually have to memorise things, that's one of the functions of the Book of Shadows. Though I see how it's better if you memorise things: if the text just comes naturally because you've learnt it, and you don't feel stupid because you have to read it or you can't remember it, it's better, natural. If you can't memorise things, make up spontanously what you feel is good. I believe it may be even more appreciated by your dieties (if you have such).
@kalacs32 i realize that i get more power raised when i either "follow along" in my BOS or just be spontaneous. Happily ive been expriementing with several things. I find i can memorize blessings if they are no more than 4 lines, and I have the written form close. Where there is Her will, there is Her way!
@safehouse123 : In my coven we don't always memorize everything either...There is no MUST in wicca, just your own way. And by the time you've done rituals for years and years you will memorize them automaticaly
@venusondrugs Newest experiments suggest that I do better if there is music and movements/gestures involved. Ive got the courage to make up my own chants and dance or walk the circle with them. Still shakey on the word for word thing, but I keep trying.:) Would love to be a coven member one day, but currently feelings my issues might hamper anothers energy. My SRW study is branching out to other things fast. "hands on" works: Writing spells, working with oils, herbs writing correspondences, etc.
there are a lot of books before scott cunningham, he was just more known to the public. before he came around, wiccan books were hard to come by because they were kept in secret storage in libraries or in underground bookstores. but scott cunningham is best if you want to learn to be a solitary practitioner. blessed be =] )O(
and actually if you read further back in history books. check eras like the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries' histories. paganism of any kind was around way before christianity.

hun there is no reason with the right research and direction you can make your choics to follow and understand and believe what you do. well follow your heart n spirit it will guide u in the right direction. meditation and quiet time is helpful for listening to your own thopughts and guides and to your higher power of your understanding.

pick any religion you feel is right^^ i used to be catholic, but i've changed over to studying wicca. there are many books that help you understand it if you do have an interest in it :) a good wiccan author is Silver Ravenwolf if you want to check her out and read some of her books. i'm reaing Teen Witch right now. it explains everything clearly.

Does wiccan have a lot of syncretic elements to it from catholicism/christianity? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to wiccan practices. I know a lot about brujeria and santeria, which have very many syncretic elements between them and catholicism (saints, rosaries, prayers, etc.)

@badhabitslounge We never did a full moon ritual. But we did do one for Samhain and it...just...wow. The room temp actually dropped like 15 degrees when we opened the Western Gate. My room is small and it gets pretty warm what with like 15 lit candles. I was able to speak with the spirit of my late boyfriend. He had me lay my head in his lap. It was...well...magical.

I attend a Catholic church almost every weekend at my parents will, and I show respect to that religion, even though I don't believe in it personally.
Why can't we all just get along?
Religion is something a person has for hope, faith, and love- not to use as an excuse to criticize and hate...

@byng51028 - The music I chose signifies whatever you want it to mean - By the way, the Bach fugue is totally secular and is not at all Lutheran - This is a common misconception because in Bach's day, organs were only found in churches - Although Bach is most famous for his religious music, he wrote more secular music than religious works.

Who cares if your neihtbour have another religion then you, just respect eachother. Isn't that what ALL religions say: love the other, respect another?
Think about this: If the other can't convince you, why would you convince him/her?

I truly wish I could do all these things, but.... I'm only 15. I'm still stuck in my house. I don't have the means to do all this. My mother is christian and extremely superstitious. i was told by my mom to be Christian but i dont wantt to be all my friends are wiccan im thinking about becoming one i feel safe when i am doing the chants and i feel home and a warm feeling threw it all with all this does this mean it picked me or telling me to pick it????????

o all.....i think you all need to read more outside of the popular books and begin an actual study of "The Craft" and nature religion as a whole. Druidism and Wiccan's were around at the same time, the druids were the "male force" and the wiccan's were more akin to modern Sisters of the Church (nuns) I have been a druid for over 20 years now. Reading is required in this instance because no one has the real true story. read some books on anthropological studies. Blessed Be All

Is it for like an essay or something or for personal understanding? You could also collect some information of Scott Cunningham. It's been a long time since I researched the legalisation of Wicca, but he was one of the first to dare to write a book about Wicca to public. Raymond Buckland had great influence in spreading Wicca in America.

I would say it is for personal understanding...in the form of an assignment. I have been designing my own "schoolwork" as I study Wicca and Witchcraft. I agree about Cunningham. Currently into the second book of Silver Ravenwolf. I know shes not "foolproof" but I dont mind researching what I read at all! In the advanced work, Ill be working with the Deborah Lipp book, after the third SRW book. Anyone curious about how I am self-teaching welcome to PM me.

Ooh, hehehh, I thought you're not that deep in Wicca yet, thus did I write the things I wrote. Hmm, I guess I wouldn't be able to help you unless I really looked up some good books of mine. I can, however, suggest Advanced Witchcraft from Edain McCoy for you. It leaves out the basic, and really writes as if she wrote for a fellow witch, which gives a very nice, personal touch to the book. It's Fluffy Bunny style for looks, but I found it great.

@kalacs32 one problem i do have is memorizing things. i do read my rites, etc, as i go along. ive read you MUST memorize things, but i cannot...due to disability. how else can i manage things like circlecasting and the Charge, etc?

@safehouse123 Hmm...I depends. You don't actually have to memorise things, that's one of the functions of the Book of Shadows. Though I see how it's better if you memorise things: if the text just comes naturally because you've learnt it, and you don't feel stupid because you have to read it or you can't remember it, it's better, natural. If you can't memorise things, make up spontanously what you feel is good. I believe it may be even more appreciated by your dieties (if you have such).

@kalacs32 i realize that i get more power raised when i either "follow along" in my BOS or just be spontaneous. Happily ive been expriementing with several things. I find i can memorize blessings if they are no more than 4 lines, and I have the written form close. Where there is Her will, there is Her way!

@safehouse123 : In my coven we don't always memorize everything either...There is no MUST in wicca, just your own way. And by the time you've done rituals for years and years you will memorize them automaticaly

@venusondrugs Newest experiments suggest that I do better if there is music and movements/gestures involved. Ive got the courage to make up my own chants and dance or walk the circle with them. Still shakey on the word for word thing, but I keep trying.:) Would love to be a coven member one day, but currently feelings my issues might hamper anothers energy. My SRW study is branching out to other things fast. "hands on" works: Writing spells, working with oils, herbs writing correspondences, etc.

there are a lot of books before scott cunningham, he was just more known to the public. before he came around, wiccan books were hard to come by because they were kept in secret storage in libraries or in underground bookstores. but scott cunningham is best if you want to learn to be a solitary practitioner. blessed be =] )O(

pick any religion you feel is right^^ i used to be catholic, but i've changed over to studying wicca. there are many books that help you understand it if you do have an interest in it :) a good wiccan author is Silver Ravenwolf if you want to check her out and read some of her books. i'm reaing Teen Witch right now. it explains everything clearly.

Have your beliefs and adopt yourself traditions or ways of doing things, it'll be better than following someone else where you might not be totally happy! I'm still finding myself but bad experiences are trying to stick with or find a religion. Just be your own in all that you do :}

I'm solitary also. tho i have stopped practicing alot. The people in my dorm are very curious but always try to "save my soul, and give it to Jesus" i wish i could be in a coven. got perfect spots here on campus to go but you got people that will come just to disrupt the energy flow. it sucks.
