Its important to remember that the EPA does not count CO2 as a registered pollutant. The only way to determine the amount of CO2 released in miles per gallon, mpg, as 21 pounds of CO2 are released per gallon of petrol.
There was apparently a manual transmission Civic Hybrid up until 2005, albeit with somewhat poor performance. Does anyone know if Honda is working on improving the MT hybrid, or has the idea been scrapped completely? I'd love to get a hybrid the next time around, but having to give up driving a stick is a major turn off.
Wow, and the car isn't even close to finish the 'broken-in cycle'. So its only going to get better milage after a few thousand miles. Just a little question, does the car's electric motor propel the car on the highway with the ICE, or the ICE just charges up the battery?
The unique thing that I like about the civic vs. the prius is that it indeed does help the engine, seems to me the harder you press the peddle the more assist you get, which i thought would be great to have a little car with a little extra oompph...
"ICE" is an acronym for, Internal. Combustion. Engine.
Yah, the Prius and the hybrid civic seem to be extreamly different. The Prius seems to have a dedicated generator so when the ICE is ON it can power the E-motor and the charge the batteries a bit. If you go to 'world (dot) honda (dot) com/HDTV/news/2005-4050705b/index (dot) html' you can see how your car works.
I've seen it, which is why I bought it, I just am not up on all the lingo...I pretty much forget stuff as soon as I see or read it. The Civic's battery gets recharged too when you are coasting of not accelerating to rapidly...it's as if it is either assisting or charging...
44-47...i guess after an oil change it will be better, but let me tell you this 50 miles per gallon is a bunch of bull shit....it's next to impossible to achieve that.
no, it helps the gas engine, and at a stop the gas engine shuts off. i still l like the technology better than the prius, which i hear doesn't get the 50-60 it promises...i still like the car the mileage and the safety features for my wife and son.
Yes, when it comes to city driving. Lets say I'm on a stop sign and the light turns green. I genteelly press on the execrator, the first 4 seconds is electric until the engine kicks in. The engine is used to get the car to my intended speed. When at my intended speed, I feather the gas peddle.
(This dosen't provoke the engine to constantly propel the car.)With the perfect balance of momentum and the electic motor to perpetuate the speed, I can cruse on electric power until I need the engine to to get to speed from a stop.
actually it was much more expensive than my civic. in march when the prius sold like hot cakes, the price quote I got in february was 23,000, in april it was 27, 000...i got a great deal on my civic,@ 22,300. plus i like the fact that it still looks like a civic, not a new design like the prius. safety wise, my civic basicall surrounds the occupants with air bags, which i liked for the wife and kid...
I admire the safety concern for your family. I purchaed my Prius for 22,000. With insurance an tax it was 25,000.
I liked the design of the Prius since it shatters the conformity of what cars look like. Its unique. Due to the fact that it's a liftback made it's self so practical that it instantly became my primary work vehicle. (It had more space for my tools and equipment than the CR-V)
Not to mention that I can experence what it feels like
Yeah, I kinda wanted one, I was really disappointed when they jacked the price up on me...I confronted them about it and they really didn't have an answer...we're both driving "green" cars and filling up about 2 X less often than our gas-guzzling brothers and sisters.
Some automotive dealers often like to push the costumer's limits. Saturn (GM) has made the Aura Green line, a 'parallel hybrid' like the civic, costing $22,695. Fuel economy: 28/35 mpg, Its American overpriced rubbish. And I agree, the cars we drive are superior to whatever GM is selling now.
No, but I have a 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and I have got it up to 40 MPH on just the electric motor. When you floor it or take off brisk the V6 will kick in though

This Pollutes MORE then the 2007 Ford Explorer v6
(fact: it has a higher emissions count, despite a better MPG, its cause the muffler system has a lack of filtering out pollution)

What is the milage you're getting?

Hi, Oh around 50, but we've only filled it up once...I've been hyper-miling a little too which helps. I absolutely love it!

When you mean 'assist' is it the ICE kicking in to help the E-motor?

sorry, I really don't know what you mean by ice, but i was referring to the electric motor helping the gas motor...

I wish I had a hybrid car... I am planing to turn my pontiac fiero (which gets 25 mpg) into a Diesel-electric car. Its a simmilar to freight trains.
Small 2 cylinder Diesel engine->generator->ultracapacitors->electric motor in the axel.

no, it helps the gas engine, and at a stop the gas engine shuts off. i still l like the technology better than the prius, which i hear doesn't get the 50-60 it promises...i still like the car the mileage and the safety features for my wife and son.

I get 49.5 to 54.1 with my 2006 Prius.

Yes, when it comes to city driving. Lets say I'm on a stop sign and the light turns green. I genteelly press on the execrator, the first 4 seconds is electric until the engine kicks in. The engine is used to get the car to my intended speed. When at my intended speed, I feather the gas peddle.

So Toyota's hybrids are actually zero emission vehicles during the time they're electrically driven.

Like an electric car. And its cheeper than the honda hybrid.
But you can't plug it in-yet. 'youtube dot com/watch?v=trfH0SI9Org'

About the EV-1. Even the most popular car model would not do well if:
1 It was available only at two locations in the entire world.
2 It was not for sale, you could only lease it.
3 An income over $100,000 was required to qualify for a lease.
4To qualify for a lease, you had to pass a written test.
5After qualifying, you may or may not be granted a car lease.
6 You had to live within 50 miles of one of the two dealerships.
7 You had to wait a year to get one.
