I wonder if the Jewish community would feel the same way if a positive musical was done on Hitler?@JixYt the same could be said about the holocaust and the removal of the jews from poland was unpopular idea now but Hitler was just doing what the German wanted and were happy about the relocation. Why are we so quick to judge?
I love the the idea of this musical, and I've always personally hated Andrew Jackson as a kid and even now. I still hate Andrew Jackson, and think he should be removed from the $20.00. He was a terrible murderer.
I also hate Jacksonian democracy and the creation of political parties.
However, I love this musical...or atleast, what I have seen and heard from it. -- I do personally think that the writers / directors / producers didn't create this musical to glorify Andrew Jackson.
Did you know that Native Americans refuse to accept twenty dollar bills because Jackson is on them? It's because of the systematic genocide he unleashed on them by the forced march to remove all Injuns east of the Mississippi river and relocate them west of the Mississippi river. This is known as The Trail Of Tears.
@JixYt if the Native Americans couldn't keep their land then it never belonged to them in the first place. Not really that evolved because across the ocean they had a whole government and education system in play. I'm not really that cold but the truth is they couldn't hold onto it. They let themselves be treated like that.
@dierdremcleod If the land never belonged to them then why are they called Native Americans? The Europeans just took over there land because they had guns and the Native Americans didn't.
@JixYt im not saying what jackson did was ok, but if you see the show, you see the difficulty of the decisions made. although people now hate him, the americans at the time were actually very happy about the relocation. so at the time, he was doing what was expected of him as a president. We dont think slavery is ok now but we still had it in this country a couple years ago. dont be so quick to judge.
@JixYt You know the comment about twenty dollars bills? It's a little bit ridiculous that you're trying to make a case for racism...and using "injun" in the same sentence. I'm just saying.
I love that he totally disses Spring Awakening in the last few minutes. LOL

@derebin I'd pay $100 a ticket for a Gilded Age musical. William Jennings Bryan is a badass!
