If only you people knew how much he cruises this thing on the street. It might not be 100% legal, but neither are jap crap's with chopped springs and cannon mufflers, commodores with jet black tint, modern peformance cars with punched cats, etc etc. It's a street&strip car, and the quickest one in the country. I daresay the most streetable 7second car you'll ever see here.
Unfortunately Mark Hayes wouldnt have much competition with other street cars as the laws now are so restrictive; his car was built, engineered and registered years ago.
has enough NOZ to launch the space shuttle. lol" i have a pic i took of his car in the pitts at willowbank i think i counted 9 10 NOZ bottels laying around in 1 pic
this thing is tough as guts, saw it at the nats a few years ago, loved it. Anyone who thinks its not a street car, its got rego doesnt it? he drove it on the street didnt he? should be proof enough, sure it might not have been `100% legal but a 60hp daihatsu with a broken headlight isnt legal either.
I don't think so, sa motor reg would never allow a big block to be registered in an lc or lj torana. Matter of fact, there are only three vehicles with street legal 308's in them here in sa, unlike interstate where putting a v8 in these cars seems to be the norm.
WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they SURE WOULD! buuuuut they limit ya HP so actually there's no point reallt! besides doing it and then upping the hp so ya MIGHT get away with it! oh and the limit is 350 hp! SAME as any v8 in one!
Ignore the crap!!!This is one very tough STREET CAR
just appreciate the effort that has gone into this car and the quality of it. It turns heads every time it lines up and looks unreal, take a close look it is tough.
Mr Lucky Horn. No offense but the entire point of street machine magazine is to use silly events like this one and clever advertising to encourage kids straight out of school to blow all there hard earned cash on modifying cars ( check out all the undereducated bogans on grunt files) instead of doing something purposeful with it like buying a house. Trust me - I'm a reformed street machiner and have learned the hard way.
Oh im sorry Nikon, are you saying that the ONLY purpose of building and driving cars is to waiste money??
And that the only people that enjoy cars are "undereducated bogans"?
My comments did not reflect either of those points and instead congratulated Mark and Dina, and the sponsorship for the event that SM gave to run the event.
It was an event for the people, to enjoy their Hard work.
You Sir are a Hypercrit!
And you obviously dont understand what street machining is all about.
Trust me I speak from experience. First car straight from school in 89 was a 73 lj xu1, Spent wads of cash on it ( thirteen months in the panel shop when I was originally told it would be three) but totally impractical. Couldn't leave it anywhere and the insurance was ridiculous. My advice to anyone is buy your dream car, chuck it in mum and dads shed, then buy your house so you have somewhere to keep it.
That begs the more puzzling question though and that is if the car is not street legal what is it doing being driven on the street?????And if hayes was in an accident where would he stand legally??
Look, I take my hat off to hayes, I was involved with a lot of quick street cars in Adelaide in the early nineties until our strip was shut down but events like this are, and always have since their inception, been dominated by cars from the eastern states because cars like this can't be built in sa.
Aaaaa so now we are getting to the point. Australia's quickest street cars are not street cars. For arguments sake we'll call them drag cars driven on the street under a day pass. That should clear everything up..I...er...think???
it said in one of the latest street machines that he has to get the car registered in all states to be crowned Australia's fastest street car so he is actually only NSW fastest street car
you will find that the event was/is open to all cars registered in all states in Australia, there were interstate cars competing as well, he won his class and he was the fastest on the day. This is Australia's fastest street car :)
Yes - but until the road rego rules are standardised between all states the event is clearly unfair. Not all states allow a big block to be registered in a torana of this size so it makes a mockery of the entire event. We could take a top fueller , put a dirty big fuel tank and radiator in it and drive it on the street and, just as hayes car, it still wouldn't be street legal.
No offense to Hayes but its the organizers and rta who cause all the bad blood regarding silly events like this.
NO WHERE did it say "STREET LEGAL". The organizers consider any car that can drive the 45km trip in traffic in a certain time a "street car" not a "street legal car" the event was fair and was open to everybody.
No offense but I think it's people that don't understand the rules that cause all the bad blood.
'cmon fellas, ned karanovic was running mid nines in his fifty seven chev without gas in the early ninteties. The car was street legal in sa which has the most strict rego rules in the country, unlike the lax rules cars undergo in the eastern states. The only mod he used to do when going off street was to drop the front bumper off due to the weight. With the gas connected I think he got down to an 8.8.
This is not the quickest street legal car in the country. You are all fooling yourselves. To be legal in the entire country the vehicle should pass registration in all states which this clearly would not. This means no front runners, full exhaust, no gas and street legal tyres.
Gee mate, give credit where it's due. Nobody wants to go and watch 14 second cars at the race track.
I does not mention legality, it is street driven. Realistically the authorities can pin you for any modification that is not standard these days. Now get back to your fishing ;)
And just for the record, the gas gets disconnected, exhuast back, chute taken off...and the wheels? Who cares!
So can we safely assume its an American V8 under the hood ?
