North Korea doesn't have air force and navy because they are short of fuels. Kim Jong il can't even feed his own people and army. Taking out North Korea would be the same thing in Iraq in 2003.

It's not primitive though. A US nuclear inspector was allowed to tour a plant in North Korea last year which the US didn't even know existed. He said he was amazed by the level of technology and how advanced and modern it was. He also said there's no way NK could be doing this without outside help, be it from the Iranians, the Russians, the Chinese or a combination of those three.

I don't consider the ability to launch a nuclear strike, primitive. North Korea is not a threat to the US, but they continue to build up a nuclear arsenal. If they aren't a threat, why do they pursue nuclear arms. Not only that, but they constantly threaten the 38th parallel by shooting at SK and US troops.

@aironeous Rome was a small city-state before the massive expansion and conquering of all their neighbors, yet they made it happen. I don't disagree that NK is small. I do, however, disagree that the damage that they could cause should be dumbed down to the level that you put it. I think underestimating them is unwise. Not the mention, by launching their entire nuclear arsenal at once, NK could level 10's of cities across the world/U.S. and hitting just 5 cities in the US would devastate us.

Who knows what they have now but it sure isn't crap stuff like paul seems to suggest. Does he really think it wise to try to estimate the military power based on the standard of living? We have so little information it just seems like underestimating them is exactly what they'd want us to do.

Korea is the one place where the situation is so bad and the people in the north are so brainwashed and threatened, that it is beyond time for intervention. No wonder are they behaving like this. We should just leave them alone and let them live their life the way they want, as it is THEIR country. Why do we have all of this? Back a few decades ago, we were fighting with the soviets playing "Nuke Challenges", building lots of nukes. Both countries took precautions. We still have bomb shelters ready, and the missile systems designed for that reason.

That is true, the problem is that N Korea is buying time. Time is what it needs, sure. But there is also it could implode and Kim seeing his about to loose everything may decide to go with a bang. Kim can hurt us indirectly just by attacking S Korea & Japan. Hence the reason Kim may go for a spoiler's war: "Going down but I'm taking as many as I can..."
