I respect the science, but those weren't microexpressions, were they (I am genuinely curious)? I thought they generally lasted 1/5th of a second, and genuine surprise only stays on the face for about a second.

Facial expressions such as Pelosis at the begging of the video could mean multiple things, Obama was not showing them at the beggening. His arm gesture could have meant he was agitated, as I would be in a situation such as that.

You're an idiot with no understanding of the science of facial expressions. Ekman has said NUMEROUS times that watching microexpressions can ONLY TELL YOU WHAT SOMEONE FEELS, NOT WHY THEY FEEL IT. Also, you could do something crazy and ACTUALLY READ THE BILL instead of misapplying good science. For example, on your freeze frame, Biden's face has already transitioned from surprise to anger, probably due to a feeling that this comment was in poor taste which MAY explain Obama's gesture.

If you only watch lie to me you won't know that microexpressions don't always leak out. They generally leak out if you're trying to hide how you feel. Obama remained firm and both showed and told Wilson exactly how he felt about it. You don't have to be taking a muscle relaxant to not have a micro expression this was proven by Paul Eckman who actually discovered micro expressions.

In addition to my previous comment, the reason Obama didn't have a microexpression is because he is professionally keeping his expression "to himself." He actually DOES show a hence of anger by clenching his jaw. Obama was trying NOT to match his opponent's (Republican's) anger. He could've played it off like Reagan and told him to shut up... which i still find hilarious

Good video. Although it could've been better without the music. Authentic surprise is only on the face for 1 second. Anything else longer than that is faked. And just because Biden drops his jaw, it doesn't mean surprise. Surprise is raised eyebrows, raised eyelids, POSSIBLY mouth open. Although, I didn't notice his elbow the first time. That was a squelched expression. The squelched expression was a shoulder shrug. If it was an angry elbow jab, Obama would've had an angry expression.

The whole point of studying mico-expressions is that they happen independent of verbal communication. As long as we know the context (which we do thanks to handy captions), there is no need to hear anything to analyze the micro-expressions.
