Some tornados are friendly, I once knew a twister that picked up a cowboy riding his horse as he was trying to flee, it lay him down gently on his back side 18 miles to the north on a farm on top of some hay, the horse however was never seen again, it is believed it was stolen & deported to Montana for bronc riding purposes.
I got this video for Christmas in 1992 (I was 12 at the time). To this day I still have it. Wish I could get it on DVD, as I would like to replace as many of my tornado related VHS with DVD. Gotta love the music score as well.
On some tornado documentaries I've seen on television, they say that a tornado never gone through downtown Dallas, but at 2:58-3:07 it clearly shows that one did in April 1957.
That's just typical, Anticyclonic and CColonalAngus have both watched this and neither of them gave me a heads up about this series, that's just bloomin charming that is :) lol
Only kidding guys :) lol
It's always great to see vintage vodeo clips these classic beasts like the multi-vortex monster at Pampa in '82 :)
Thanks for uploading these, top rating always and you now gotta new subscriber :)
I totally grew up watching this video! I own this, the 2-tape Twisters: Nature's Fury, and a Weather Channel feature called "Target: Tornado", and ever since I saw these when I was a little kid I've been hooked on twisters and severe storms.
I've posted some stuff from Twisters: Nature's Fury. I've seen Target Tornado; I don't own it, I borrowed it from my library when they still had VHS tapes.
No way, I have this video too and I've watched those weather channel specials as well, Target Tornado, The Enemy Wind, hey, maybe we could get it touch?
That's the Parker City, IN tornado from the Super Outbreak of April 3, 1974. And my video does have the narration and subtitles of the location and dates of the tornadoes.
Hooooo yeaaaah! This is definitely one of the best collections out there (and I do have it, by the way; but it's awesome you uploaded it for everyone to see!).
The twister at 2:29 is from 1973. I have a colour film of it on my channel.
Hehe, your tape is better quality than mine; I've had it for years. The clip I have of the Cheyenne tornado is pretty rough-looking. I've got tapes dating back almost 20 years when I was recording tornado shows off the massive beast of an 80s VCR my parents had (the remote control for which attached via a freaking WIRE). I should have uploaded a better version on another tape I have. But you have it here so it's all good.
For some reason the producers of this video altered the colors of some of the old classic films. Their clip of the Xenia tornado has the clouds black and the sky yellow (plus it's also dated April 21, 1974). They made the Seymour tornado pink and the Lindsborg tornado black and white.
I know this was asked a couple of years ago and the guy who asked has had his account shut down since then, but in case anyone else read his question the tornado at 4:26-4:31 is one of the tornadoes that occurred near Clarendon, Texas on March 3, 1983 and was filmed by Tim Marshall.
@ColonelAngus75 do you happen to have any tim marshall videos? i just ordered his "25 Years of Stormchasing" doc off of Stormtrack, but due to unpopularity, its gonna take a while. all i know is that it has the Clarendon tornadoes, along with the tornadoes at Warren, Pampa, Canadian, and Hodges.
I have his "25 Years of Tornado Chasing" and "1991 Kansas Tornadoes" DVDs. The "25 Years" DVD is a good one. One problem with it though is the volume level is inconsistent. The 8mm footage has very low volume (and is a bit high pitched) and each time he upgrades his equpment the volume gets noticably louder. The DV footage is very loud by comparison. The 1991 DVD is okay but can be a bit boring because it has a lot of footage of him just driving.
@ColonelAngus75 well Super 8 is when home film audio was basically experimental( keep in mind, 8mm film was only 10 years old at the time), so of course its gonna sound inconsistent whenever the cameras are upgraded because the audio is getting better. as for all the driving, thats stormchasing for ya
@ColonelAngus75 i think you should upload it to YouTube. granted, i will be a spoiler for me, but there is ALOT of rare tornado videos in the movie. it has the Warren, Dawn, Silverton, and Plainview tornadoes. not only that, it also contains the Canadian monster and Springtown tornado. all these videos are rare, and are what is left of the early days of storm chasing. do you agree?
I know that the sound quality isn't the best on those old film cameras (it's amazing he had one, they weren't exactly common). I just wished he had tried to normalize the sound so I wouldn't have to turn the TV down every few minutes. I've thought about uploading both of them but with my slow upload speed it would take a while. I may give it a try in the next few days.
The old black and white tornado clips scare me SO bad.
I swear, tornadoes are the strangest, scariest natural disasters on earth.

What about the one around 3:40? I know I've seen it but don't recall which one it is. It has to be old. And the satellite tornado is amazing.

That tornado did not go through downtown Dallas. It traveled from the south, west and northwest sides around downtown.

Awesome! I remember seeing this video advertised on TV about ten years ago. I wish now I had bought it. Could you identify these tornadoes please?
1:42-1:46
2:07-2:16 (I have this one on a tape but it isn't identified, it kind of looks like the Salina, KS tornado but I'm not totally sure)
2:29-2:42 (Looks familiar)
ColonelAngus75 3 years ago
1:42-1:46: Las Vegas, NV 11/30/92
2:07-2:16: Salina, KS 9/25/73 (if you look closely the water tower says 'SALINA')
2:29-2:42: Wichita, KS I don't remember the date.
