i cant for the life of me work out how the hell he stayed upright!!! the guy is made of granite. the right thing was done though its a really REALLY bad idea to take the beating that only george foreman could hand out
Let 's put it the other way. George was aged and he hadn't been in the ring for a long time. Everybody has their own matters. They have to overcome the matters and give their best shot.
@sedod66 Tough? You are kidding. Before the ref stopped the match, "Balboa" was hangin' on George's arm and keeped hugging him lol. If the ref didn't stop the match, "Balboa" wouldn't have been awaken for 3 weeks.
@ndzordz you have no concept of boxing either. i didnt over rate him as i made no mention to his boxing skills at all. watching the fight it is clear that he is overmatched and outgunned. he probably knew that straight away too. but he didnt do what most would do in that situation and look for a way out. he kept trying. he took hellish punches from foreman and didnt even take a knee. he showed immense courage that only someone who has been in that situation could probably appreciate.
@sedod66 Courage? OK nice fun for the audience. But ref wouldn't have stopped the fight. If the fight lasted 1 more minute, I bet "Balboa" would have putted his ass on the floor
@ndzordz your comment doesnt even make sense, im not sure what it is your trying to even say. "balboa would have putted his as on the floor" what does this mean? are you now trying to say that balboa would have put foremans ass on the floor? or that he woulda got ko'd soon anyway? everyone can see rocky was away to get knocked out, so what? you arent making any sense at all and should stick to commenting on subjects that you understand. what does courage have to do with the audience anyway?
@sedod66 Ok, I don't speak good English everyone can notice that. I meant Rocky could be the one who won't wake up for weeks if the fight lasted 1 more minute.
@ndzordz i wasnt having a go because english is your second language. i was not to know that, but yes ofcourse he was away to get knocked out. the ref saved him from that. but that has nothing to do with the fact that he was extremley tough to take the shots he did and not give up. courage and toughness are qualities that are not appreciated enough in boxing nowadays when fighters seem concerned only with making money and having easy fights.
Rick (Rocky) Sekorski is my great uncle, and he did a wonderful job, but he had other things going on while forman was just training. give him a break
I am from Minnesota. One day, I snuck up behind Rocky Sekorski...I hit him in the back of the head with a 2 X 4...get this..... he flinched and kept going about his business as usual.
Big George is a natural predator. Just back from a 10 year lay off . you could just see him although a lot slower that before jus stalking and devouring is prey ruthlessly
I didnt know who George was till I seen him on USA tuesday night Fights (His comeback when he was like 39) I was like whos this chubby old guy till I seen him start fighting and I was like OMG this guy is for real...He then became my Idol watched all his comeback fights on hisway to regain the title...hes still my idol to this day 20 years later...thanks George you changed my life im now 43..
@MrAddicted2net i am so sorry i unhid your comment and read it...that is sad...sad...sad...thats the only muhfuckin word i can think of. nigga you jus fuckin sad.
after the match Rocky went back to Philly & grew old & later he regretted what the hell on the earth he was thinking for taking a match with Big George
oh man. two more good shots and he was on the floor. I wish they wouldn't stop fights so easily. I understand that the guy can get hurt, but he's still in there throwing punches so he deserves to get his ass beat.
Big George had a GREAT jab. He wasn't just a power puncher who was reckless - especially in his later career. I think he was quite relaxed and did a lot of thinking in the ring in his second run at the heavyweight division. Obviously he still had that power but he conserved his energy and put those vicious, clubbing shots together beyond a straight, accurate and powerful jab.
What gets me about George is that he's slow lumbering but he's accurate and his punches don't have a quick snap but he hits harder than a lot of guys. I just don't understand how Foreman got such a unique style I mean no one else fights like that, it's incredible. He's like a wrecking ball, that's what it's like, slow and demolishing.
@capablemachine I dont get it either - you watch him and it looks like he can barely be bothered to fight. When he jabs people it seems to do a ridiculous amount of damage. Also another thing about george is his chin - i have seen him get wacked in the face so many times and yet he doesnt even flinch
I always thought George looked better in red and lighter. I think it was a mistake to go heavier especially in fights against Evander and Tommy Morrison.
foreman estaba de vuelta, a pesar de su edad debemos decir que se presentó en buena forma, su pegada era bestial, compensaba su falta de movilidad en el ring, uno de los grandes de todos los tiempos
I guess they dont call him Rocky for nothing... He is probably Polish and Polish people tend to keep coming forward stubbornly no matter how bad their head is being mashed.
That was the longest minute of boxing. That guy could take some shit. But Steele did the right thing. Foremen didn't look tired, and the next round that guy could have gotten really, really hurt.
This is what Mike Tyson should have done...followed Foreman's comeback plan...fight smaller, light hitting guys, win 8 or 10 bouts, get his confidence up, work on sharpening his skills.
OMFG! This guy was simply too fucking stupid to realize who was hitting him and how hard. HIs head was snapping back with each and every punch. My neck hurts just watching this. I am sure this guy has brain damage now. That is just not natural. I vote him best chin of all time!
I think Rocky would take lead and still stand! Don't know his record but these shots put down HOF'ers easy and this guy took it. He can be proud, on that day he had the best chin ever.
Moral victory for Rocky. Not many people around who can say they took Big George's best shot and remained standing. He took about 40 of George's best.
One of George's best comeback fights. His weight was good, his punches crisp, and of course his power never left him. Sekorski also was a good test as he wasn't a quitter. He tried to pound on George and even when hurt he hung in there to the end.
lol it must be very frustrating for that white guy to punch foreman again and again n george just keep going fordward like nothing :P...by the way that white man moves fine and has a decent chin...but unfortunately his defense sucks...
I would say he had more than a decent chin. You could hit Sekorski with a baseball bat and he would probably still be standing. Gutsy performance by him.
Sekorski did an amazing job in this fight, I remember it well. He had barely a mark on him and would have kept going on sheer Polish hard-headedness if they would have let him. It is important to remember that while Foreman spent a ton of time working out for boxing and such, Sekorski was working some kind of blue collar full time job and taking care of a family between fights. Considering that, he kicked butt.
Are you shitting me? I'm all for giving credit for where it's due, but this guy fought a shit fight. I've never seen Foreman have an easier time teeing off on a guy then here.
this shows the difference between elite level and low ranks. foreman had to work his back through the chumps, could have killed all of them first round-but let them hang around as a warm up.
If I was the ref, I wouldn't have stopped it. It was unnecessary.

good stoppage for a guy who had no chance of winning. sustained beatings of fighters who "stay on their feet" is what leads to brain damage.
