As a gamer myself for all my life, I will say that my closest friends are gamers as well, and I have been happy all my life with them. I do have friends that are non gamers, but my best ones are gamers themselves. Why are gamers viewed as antisocial?

im not addicted to video games, but i do love them, video games encourage social activity(wow, halo, cod) they stimulate your mind(brain age, geometry wars),they allow you to save the world/princess(zelda, final fantasy) they can prepare you for a zombie apocolypse(resident evil, dead space) or they can just be a blast to play
and anyone who doesnt like em, thats okay too, read a book listen to music, watch a movie, ill be slaying demons, and killing aliens, and getting radical firepower =D

@noffelz Rubbish, I've played games since 1984 and have had a fine life - you just have to have SOME moderation.. The only game people need to be careful of is World of Warcraft and other MMO's (they are excellent but true time sinks). Games overall are fun, enjoyable, stimulating diversions if nothing else. They help you with hand-eye coordination, problem solving and all the rest of it. I know quite a few girls who enjoy games..

I think the only people who worry about an addiction like video game addiction must have their own addiction to getting into other people's business. If a person plays sports (pick a sport) all day everyday, do they call that person an addict? No, because this whole issue is only spot-lighted in the media because these games are keeping people at home, not out spending money on things they dont need.
Just because someone is inside and not spending money doesn't mean they arent throwing their life away. Believe or not but some people lose their jobs and familes to video games. Most people can play for an hour or two and go back to the real world but others can't. If somehting is instantly gratifying people with addictive personalities are gonna keep chasing after it. It's human nature.
Human nature does seem to nullify the aspect of addiction. Are you addicted to sleeping? Breathing? Drinking water? Talking? Any of those could ruin your life in a given scenereo, "addictive personality" a subjective concern, everyone has it, but only those who's "addiction" conflicts with someone else's idea of "normal" are recognized. More specific, video game addiction is only confronted by those whom have an adverse opinion of the games, like a short kid who says basketball sucks.
Well that's because sports are good and healthy,and yes playing videogames all day and gething addicted to them is stupid and no doing sports and going out with friends is NOT an addictioin.If you still find it to be one than it is a realy healthy and good addiction.
I don't know whats so bad about it, I play Halo 3 probably about and hour everyday as a bit of rest time at school, play tennis, do swimming and am a A student. If you can control yourself with gaming it's great for having some fun and relaxing

when i was in 5th grade, i was walkin with a friend to school, he was trying to tell me bout football games our friends did. i got tired and said "dude..shutup...i just wanna talk about video games"....a week later i realized how bad that was...i'll never go back to being that addicted.

I think the only people who worry about an addiction like video game addiction must have their own addiction to getting into other people's business. If a person plays sports (pick a sport) all day everyday, do they call that person an addict? No, because this whole issue is only spot-lighted in the media because these games are keeping people at home, not out spending money on things they dont need.

Just because someone is inside and not spending money doesn't mean they arent throwing their life away. Believe or not but some people lose their jobs and familes to video games. Most people can play for an hour or two and go back to the real world but others can't. If somehting is instantly gratifying people with addictive personalities are gonna keep chasing after it. It's human nature.

Human nature does seem to nullify the aspect of addiction. Are you addicted to sleeping? Breathing? Drinking water? Talking? Any of those could ruin your life in a given scenereo, "addictive personality" a subjective concern, everyone has it, but only those who's "addiction" conflicts with someone else's idea of "normal" are recognized. More specific, video game addiction is only confronted by those whom have an adverse opinion of the games, like a short kid who says basketball sucks.

While I agree sports are healthy for your physical well being and social interaction is overall good for mental health.
Not everyone likes sports, and not everyone likes hanging out with friends. Introverts actually get their energy from being alone.
Some games have puzzles and other strategic things in them that have been proven to increase problem solving skills.
Plus they make people happy.
Usually the people you see who don't like them is the family & friends.

I don't know whats so bad about it, I play Halo 3 probably about and hour everyday as a bit of rest time at school, play tennis, do swimming and am a A student. If you can control yourself with gaming it's great for having some fun and relaxing

2. finish all ur work or homework before playing
3. have some sort of social life and talk to people IN THE SAME ROOM AS YOU on a regular basis.
4. GET EXCERSISE! u dont wanna be unhealthy or obese.
follow those and u should be normal and ok.
