  • GreenGhost is a total SHITFACE

  • I converted my home to a net-zero solar powered homet that uses no oil or gas..I made a video about it called, "Preparing for Peak Oil"....

  • volume ist too low, can`t hear that bloke

  • Sorry Otto, can't do anything about it now, just have to turn up all your volume controls.

  • Turned volume all the way up, it's still too low.

  • I freely admit I have spent only a little time on LATOC as there is just so much more to read on TOD, I've seen Savainar on a few videos here on YT and he can come across as a bit "doomy" which is why I prefer TOD, as for fronting goods I've never really taken the time to look at them... are they scams ?

  • I have a couple of sites you might like to take a look at, I would not class them as "doomers" myself rather I think they are a serious attempt to look at the situation with a level head (especially the first site) so here they are and I hope you enjoy them although they are kinda heavy going sometimes.

    1. theoildrum"dot"com

    2. lifeaftertheoilcrash"dot"net

    enjoy ^_^

  • .... things like the growth in human population (6.7billion and growing fast), age demographics such as people living longer in the west and fewer children being born into developed nations or the fact that nations such as India and China are becoming major players on the world stage, I'm 40 now and I can't even begin to imagine what it's gonna be like when I'm 60 ?, but if the peak is now then the idea of doing nothing as I head towards my middle and older years fills me with foreboding.

  • .... don't you think then that now is exactly the time to invest our money time effort into renewables ?, for my part I think we are more or less on the same page with the only disagreement being about when the peak will hit and how hard, if the peak is now then our reliance on foreign will be tough to get over but if we have 20 years and we start down the renewables road now we'll be off foreign oil and have energy security just in time for the peak, and thats without even factoring in .....

  • I've been off and had a look (online obviously) at the Bakken field and the Alberta tar sands and I'm even more certain now that they will only soften the depression rather than avert it.

I'd like to thank you for your honest answers to the questions I posed you and I'd like to point out something I noticed, I asked you how long you thought it would be before the peak and you said maybe 20 years and in another post you said it could take at least 20 years for renewable to take center stage....

  • I have a question in return for you, in an earlier post you say you accept that peak oil is real but that you don't believe the "doomers" as you call them then let me ask you this....

    1. when do you believe peak oil will happen ?

    2. what do you think will happen once peak oil has happened ?

    3. when do you think we should do something about peak oil ?

    4. what would you propose we do about peak oil once it is here ?

  • 2. .... and would love to see us hurt, so breaking our deepening dependency on foreign oil can only be good for security of energy supplies and the country as a whole.

    3. by switching as much of our power to renwables we will create jobs for our own people and stop sending money out of our countries to others who don't like us.

    4. since renewables aren't effected much by the price of oil we will become more stable with cheaper manufacturing costs which is good for jobs growth.

    isn't that a win?

  • I mean win as in things don't need to be as bad as they could be if we do nothing, like you said we don't know everything but that does not mean we can do nothing in the forlorn hope that it'll all be ok in the end.

Here are some things we do know.

    1. oil is a finite resource and one day sooner or later it will peak, so why wait to do something about it then rather than now ?

    2. the oil that is here is for the most part in countries that are at best hostile to the west and at worst hate us....

  • Will renewables save us..... honestly I don't know, but what I do know is that not investing in them will be very bad, very bad indeed.

"Do you believe in Global Warming and Al Gore".... well yes I do believe in global warming and I believe that mankind has a major hand in it's cause (although not the only one) as for Al Gore, well I've heard some of what he has to say and I do think he's right that we need to invest in renewables but I don't hold him up as my own personal Jesus or anything.

  • All the stuff I've seen about untapped oil reserves in the US suggest that at best all they will do is soften the post peak depression rather than stop it, renewables will never take centre stage as long as we dick about and don't invest in them aggressively and if you don't think dwindling oil won't be bad then I humbly suggest you turn off your computer and walk around your house and count all the things that required oil to either make them or get them to your home in some way.

  • First part should have read "Even those who work for big oil companies SAY we have thirty years before we reach peak oil"

sorry i missed out the "say"

  • Even those who work for the big oil companies that at most we have thirty years before we reach peak oil, the greens say we are at peak oil now but either way they all agree peak oil is a real fact, they only disagree about the "when" part, so if we invest in renewable energy aggressively now we either preempt the peak and give ourselves breathing room "but" if the peak is now then we could just be saving our lives... either way it's a win win situation.

  • I can understand where your coming from but for no other reason than national security it would still be a good idea to get free of foreign oil, the price of oil is never gonna go back down to $30 or $40 a barrel and China and India are not gonna go back to riding bicycles now they've had a glimpse of the good life which means more people chasing the same amount of oil which means the price is gonna stay high from here on in and if peak oil is here then we'll have a head start on it.. win win!!

  • nudg.. wake up ;)

  • Uh ohhhh

  • our planet our poeple are doomed!

    get use to it

  • what?
