  • what do you think of kohler engines tom?

  • @mrmkc2

For romping, they don't hold up to well for me. They always end up knocking, smoking real bad, and alot of times throwing a rod.

But for actual garden tractor use, i think they are one of the best engines, by far. At least these old cast iron Horizontal shaft ones from the 60's and 70's, don't know much about newer ones. Any newer engines really. But yeah, for actual use, they work really well. and start super easy after siting for years.

  • @tommartyn i just wanted to see what you think of them, i have a 1967 case 155 with a 10 horse kohler and it is definitely the best engine out of all of my tractors, its not bad for romping but it revs too high sometimes, me and my friends always talk about having a place like yours for romping, because we live in chicago and if we want to romp we have to drive the tractors over to the forest preserve, but that has to wait because im only 14.

  • @mrmkc2

Gotcha. Yeah man, Kohlers are good garden tractor engines.

If you can find one man, gotta try out a Bolens. With a wisconsin engine. those things are pretty incredible.

  • @tommartyn yeah i really want a bolens but all the ones i see on ebay or craigslist are out of my price range, they seem like tough tractors though i think that it is awesome how they are shaft driven and they have a real clutch instead of a wimpy little belt tension clutch, and i think posi traction on a garden tractor is awesome. i always here good things about wisconsin engines, i want to get one to replace the tecumseh on my sears suburban.

  • @mrmkc2

I hear ya on the price ranges of bolens. I found pretty much all of mine without the internet. Its really the only way to get a good deal. Gotta always ask people if they know of any old bolens garden tractors anywhere for sale. And if you're driving, keep an eye out in peoples yards, and back yards. I've gotten alot by seeing some sitting. then knocking on the door, and seeing if they want to get rid of them or sell them. Meet some cool friendly people that way too.

  • in a world, where everything, is said, with suspense

  • realy i wonder why all your engines blow up

  • @1224steve

They don't all blow up mr.

  • @tommartyn just sayin ive had a ten horse power tecumseh for 40 years without havin to replace one part on it

  • @1224steve

Not been my experience with Tecumseh's. Or most of the people i've talked to. I don't know what it is with them, even the old cast iron block ones. I know i've seen a few with plastic pushrods for the points... So in general i'm guessing they just didn't have the best engineering. Maybe tried to cut costs where they could. Mostly the tecumseh problems i've experienced, and heard of, are, Can't get the carb right, Once hot, runs bad, and dies, and magneto/module fails.

  • @tommartyn well i check the oil and stuff like that every time i start it and my grandad and i restored the tractor its on over the summer the carb and the magnito have been cleaned and stuff so thats why it still runs good

  • i wonder why they blew up? lol!

  • @shinyfuzzy

yeah, the kohlers don't like to rev. thats for sure :) The wisconsin's hold up so much better. maybe they are just made out of better metal.

  • @shinyfuzzy something to do with bypassing the governor?

  • VTEC KICKED IN YO

  • @iggy151

    haha, thas pretty good man

  • starting engines like a baws

  • @psychoclown420

seriously man, what is that supposed to mean?

  • @tommartyn like a boss... listen to the lonely island brah

  • @tommartyn like a boss but spelled different LOL

  • @CCSinventions

    Ah, gotcha man. haha

  • lol "IT HAD THIS KOHLER........ till it blew up. THIS HAD THIS 6HP TECUMSEH......... it also blew up"

  • @SuperKONR

yeah, those engines weren't a big fan of what we do. :)

  • Doyls Town, holly shit my grandma drew up there

  • @Darklordkime

She grew up in Doylestown? Nice! :)

  • I meant 3:01

  • Hahaha 0:18 best part

  • @dexter12353

:) it didn't get away from me :) i stayed with it

  • I love the cometary

  • nice editing it got this seat, this steering wheel, these hubcaps....

  • @FlickTricksOffical

    hahah, thanks man!

  • put a bigger motor in it. Ive got a 10hp and it pops wheelies like nobody's business

  • @BMAN294

Wheelies are a wheelhorse tradmark man :)

Have you seen our other wheelhorse videos? Mostly all we do with them is wheelies :) and the 10HP's are powerfull, sure, but they are too heavy for the best wheelie action. you can get the front end up, but its too hard to control because of the weight and all. we can ride them pretty far. Right now we've got a 5HP tecumseh on a Raider 10 (Longer framed WH) and we rip crazy wheelies on that thing all day long :)

  • WHAT?! This is hilarious.

  • what is he doing 2:45? lol

  • @Lightz21H

He, (me) is trying to do a brakestand/powerbreak it. In a rear wheel drive car or truck you can hold the front brakes down, and do a burnout with the back tires, standing in place. But tractors don't have front brakes, so i had to hop off, and hold it in place. i also lifted up on the one tire a little so it would spin easier. It was hard. Its a joke sort of, because i'm powerbrakeing something without front brakes

  • @tommartyn Ow yeah i forgotten tht tractors don't have front brakes, haha XD looks funny

  • @Lightz21H no fuckin clue lol

  • thi is a win of a video

  • haha i like the intro

  • @Arturaz1

:) hahaha, i haven't seen this in a while, i seemed like a pretty confident guy that day.

  • Dont trash that kohler

  • I would take you more serious without the yoder

  • @zilla4069

haha, whats the yoder? My Whalers beard?

Yeah, i'm not to be taken seriously.

  • @tommartyn Yeah, the wife beard. You live in Pa?.I fly out of Reading all the time.

  • @zilla4069

Yeah, we're over here in PA. haha, the wife beard? Does this really look like the kinda beard someones wife would have? This is just the kinda beard that grows on my face when i stop shaving or trimming it for 6 or more years :)

  • @tommartyn Thats what married men wear in the amish clan.In Ca we would say you've been Yodered.LOL

  • Sweet tractor, I would take you more serious with out the yoder on your face

  • 2:34 lol how many belts have you went through ? great vid man and great horse now you can mow the lawn in about 5 min and get groceries from your super market (and have fun doing it)

  • @predxene

Hey thanks! I never went through a belt on that thing, as far i can remember. I think my pulley system failed before the belt got a chance to. With all my tractors though, over the years, i've probably gone through hundreds of belts i'd imagine.

  • were could i get thses tractors

  • @werewolf7789

:) haha, i don't even know where you live man. How the heck can i possibly answer that? :)

  • Do you still have the Kohler engine?????????? I really need the voltage regulator off of it! PLEASE LET ME KNOW if you still have it.

  • actually, I like your vid.

you did a good job narrating it.

maybe you should do a documentary on prostate exams.

  • @24preacherboy

:) haha, what the fuck :)

Yeah, i'm sure it would be my best work yet :)

i'm fairly confident that you're insulting me here, but i'm not bothered at all. Thats pretty funny man. for sure :)

Thank you for an "original" insult :)

  • @24preacherboy

the dueling banjo's insult, is just a common Redneck type insult, so, pretty lame, but this one rocks.

  • Did that OHC engine come off of a pressure washer? I just got one of these same engines for free.

  • @suchfunstuff

Yeah man! drew trash picked a pressure washer, and it had this honda on it :)

Was your's off of a pressure washer too?

  • @tommartyn Yup, and the pump was totally shredded. Just took the pump off today. The shaft is only a 7/8" x 1-1/4" or so. With keyway. Still usable though, and runs perfect.

  • Id restore that old Wheel Horse, not club the shit out of it. It could be really nice. The rate your goin' it's gonna wind up on the trash heap.

  • @charger19691

haha, "club the shit out of it" ? Wow... Apparently you haven't seen garden tractors actually being used hard before. Check out some of our other videos, search my video's for "intense tractor romp" You'll see what its like when tractors actually get beat on.

I don't restore things, i don't like it when things are so perfect and nice that you can't do anything with them. and also, i really like to have fun with these extremely capable machines. Without worrying about it.

  • You should dub it the rompster, put wheelie bars on it, and lean back while full throttling it :)

  • @SuperKONR

man, that would be some awesome wheelie action :) Wish i would have though about that back when this thing was together. Might have to re-assemble

  • @tommartyn You should put shorter bars so it will go up like 50 degrees from the ground.

  • hey take off the wheel weights and run it that way theres less mass on the axles for the engine to spin then make another video

  • @curllyfreak

:) this tractor got retired about a month after i concocted it :)

But yeah, that was a good idea, i took them off a few days after i got the tractor together, and the little 5HP was alot happier with out having to spin those 50 pound suckers. But then i threw a smaller pully on the transmission, and it was never powerful enough for that gearing setup. My goal was to have it be the same speed it is here in high, in low range, it just didn't have the power to spin things that fast.

  • lol @ 59 .. did you stop it or did you catch up to it later :D:D:D:D nice fuckin job man

  • @1or2m

haha, i got it in neutral just off camera. I was kinda wondering if i'd be able to catch up to it :)

  • @tommartyn haha nice is that thing still alive?

  • @1or2m

nah, it didn't last too long. i kept having alot of problmes with the rear pully, and just gave up after a while, put the engine on an air compressor, and never worked on it again. i should throw another engine on it. Might look at that today

  • @tommartyn why dont you use a chain on it you can get like 2 long bike chains and gears so i think it would work just fine

  • LoL, just make sure that transmission has a heavy duty oil in it for high speed run like that, that's crazy!

  • what the hell is wrong with you

  • Well that really depends on what exactly you're talking about. What did i do in this video that makes it seem like something is wrong with me?

  • 02:45

  • INSANE

  • Thing is fast :) And fun!

  • 2:56 LOLOLOLOL. Cool

  • Oh, and Happy New Year!!! I got "geotrackerkid" back but I'm just using it for nonesense right now LOL

  • That's awesome!!! I know what I'm doing wrong with mine, it's only a three speed. If I had more forward gears it might be a little faster.

  • Yeah, that could be it :) How big is the engine on the MF?

  • It is a briggs n stratton 5hp old style flat head. It's funny though, I kept trying to step up the pulley size slowly, and I thought I needed a new shorter belt, it turns out the original belt worked when I got to the final drive pulley. It was like putting the rear pulley on the front, and front pulley on rear so I could've used the original belt and saved money LOL!!! it was the same distance only reversed pulleys.

  • haha! :) thats awesome! Would have been cool to know in advance i guess, but still cool that its the same size :) Yeah, a 5HP briggs might be a little underpowered. I'm sure its fun though!

Thanks! happy new year to you too! :)

  • when we going to see that thing hit the creek

  • haha! i dont' know for sure, it destroyed the weak pully i put on the trans, and then i took the engine off for an air compressor we use all the time... but i'm sure it will be back as a tractor again someday :) i did alot of driving it around on the top of the snow when it froze and was like ice. that was alot of fun. it wasn't that good in the creek, i'll see if i have any footage of it. but the engine, didn't like water at all. which is funny because its off a pressure washer

  • hey can i have the kohler 8hp pulley plz

  • Possibly, i'm not using it. how much would you give me for it? Plus shipping.

  • let me talk to my dad and see i live by kansas city kansas where do u live??? and can u git the pulley off

  • I live by philadelphia PA. yeah, the pully will probably come off easy. i have a puller.

  • what was the horse power on that kohler that blew up?

  • it was an 8HP puppy. Much smaller in size then a wisconsin 8

  • I was just wondering that because i have a 5 hp briggs and im going to rebuild it and build a small tractor around it, i think it should be anough that honda engine looks like it does well on that tractor, and when ever i find a bigger engine i can swap it out.

  • Are you going to make a fast tractor, or just a tractor in general? because the other wheel horse i have has a 5HP tecumseh on it, and its regular speed, and has plenty of power for anything :) on a small light tractor, 5 HP is plenty for romping and all.

  • Well it going to be kinda both, it is going to have a high and low range, i can use it as a tractor in low range and as a toy in high range, it probobly wont be as fast as yours, but it will be a multi purpose tool:)

  • That was my goal for this beast :) cause the trans has high and low. It worked pretty good for a while there. low range is pretty loud when used for normal tractor speeds. What kind of tractor are you going to use? :)

  • Im going to build a completly new one, i cant find any good ones around here, they are al hydro, and the wont hold up to what i want to do, i have a 24 inch tire i found on the side of the road, and i just need to get another, they will be my read tires, and i found 13" tires at harborfreigt for $13 dollars each. and i will build the frame with som scrap steel we have.

  • What kind of trans are you gonna use? :)

  • well i will upload a vid of it later, im using the hi medium and low rand sprockets of the front of a bike, i went to a gear ratio web site, and got about 5-6mph in low gear and about 10 mph in high gear, i think i need a higher high gear.

  • That's BAD!!!!

  • what r u doing with at old pulley

  • that thing is soo pimp. i am jealious

  • true true, it does have dimonds in the rims ya erd meh

  • hey u wanna sell the 5 horse 6 speed cuz ik a kid who'll buy it he loves wheelhorses

  • do yall bypass the govenor and use the choke cable for th throttle?

  • We are using the choke i think, but thats because the throttle cable broke. The govener isn't bypass'd, there is just more tension on the spring that goes from the throttle cable to the governor. :) puts more tension on the bitch :)

  • and THIS is a great video

  • nah and i dont live in a house with land i got a tiny backyard witch is shit as were u live :S?

  • yeah, but no matter how nice this land is and all, its never gonna be as cool as Australia... so you totally got me beat there. :) lucky bastard :)

  • how much money is the egeny

  • i'm gonna guess free?

  • fuck this shit looks so fukn fun

  • haha! its fun for sure mate! got any of these old 60's tractors down your way?

  • lol no wonder the blow you rev the shit out of them still nice mods if i still have my tractor i would have modded it like yours

  • haha, i've only blown one tractor engine from high reving :) a tecumseh on another wheelhorse. that kohler blew sitting around idleing. never reved it high. i think kohlers just suck. but the honda! yeah, that puppy can seriously rev high all day long! Over head cam! that means less moving parts, so reving high is not as bad for it. it likes it! :0 short stroke too.

yeah, making them fast is fun for sure!

  • man i wish i could kick it with you man, youd be a fun friend to have. but my bud steve and i still mud in his yard lol.

  • haha, yeah. it is a blast here. and i always want more people to come check these awesome old tractors out.

Yeah, keep giving it to it man!

  • Part 2 of paragraph ...the cracked head had been welded once befor... it had been welded across the entire left cylinder head and now i gots to get a new one...

  • Nice :) thanks! thats cool that the whole welded head thing worked for a while! welding cast iron isn't very easy, its so soft. burns right through really quick.

if its gonna throw off your whole video style on youtube, you could delete it after i see it. it would just be cool to see the beast :) I dig checking out tractors! :)

  • i dont know how to send pictures so ill make a video of it. even though all my vids are to make people laugh i still got my hobies and the stuff im good at-mechanics. ive also got a ton of other machinery that i used in my lawn business back when i mowed lawns. i also bought a 1941 JOHN Deere B...26horse power. i used it to haul my trailer around with all my equipment on it. allthough i miss the pop pop it makes cause it turns out that when i bought it the head was cracked...read second prgh

  • oh another thing about my 1600 the engine up front is a horizontal shaft and it has a shaft that goes strait to a gear box in the very back switching it from strait to side ways then theres a pulley with a belt leading to the other pully atached to the transmission, its a five speed 4 forward 1 reverse... also MF made an exact replica of this tractor no joke, the only difference was the brand. my type of tractor was also avalable with hydralic lifts of coarse for the buyer to choose.

  • that snapper sounds like an awesome tractor! can you get some footage of the beast? yeah, i looked up snapper 1600 on google, and saw an MF version, thats why i thought it was an 80's tractor. the late 70's early 80's higher end bolens had that same engine shaft/belt setup. and some old jacobsons too. you could aways put a bigger pully on the little gear box, and a smaller pully on the trans! :)

The murray, will be easy though! :) just bigger pully on the engine, smaller on the trans

  • It seems like alot of companys do that kind of thing. car companys do it alot too. the selling the same thing, with different colors, and sometimes different trim on it. mazda selling ford rangers, and other fords, chevy selling izuzu's and the other way around too. dodge selling... mazarati's? all sorts of that kind of thing going on. simplicity's and allis chalmers back in the 60's... cheap way to try to boost sales i guess. kinda cool though to have more options out there. :)

  • im pretty sure its a 1960s cause befor i bought it i looked up all the history about it printed off all the manuals and all that stuff. besides i know for a fact that its a 1960s because ive got a snapper lt11 thats a 1970s. the lt11 didnt come out till almost 10yrs after. but your right for how top heavy the 1600 is 30 to 40 MPH would be crazy. i think im just going to leave it alone and just keep it as my lawn tractor. but i do have an old murray you got any info on how to make it fly!!!

  • i got a 1960s snapper 1600 rear pto and all but its got a trany like on a car with a belt for the clutch. how do i make it go faster... and mean speeds of 30 to 40 mph.

  • Hey! a snapper 1600 with a rear pto is an 1980's tractor. probably mid to late 80's. this wheel horse in the vid has a tranny like a car.

right now it goes probably 6 or 7 MPH, so 30-40 is crazy! keep that in mind.

but just do like i did in the video, put a bigger pully on the engine, and a smaller pully on the transmission. then get a belt to fit.

  • dude you should straight pipe that thing !!

  • dude would u let me drive that when i come over to romp with u

  • i see how u keep blowing engines lol

  • yeah, we don't mess around. the only ones that can really hang in there, are the Wisconsin's and the Honda's. they seem to be able to deal with it all. we just got a 2 cylinder Onan that is going to be cool to see what its all about

  • ty u

  • giu vk?

  • thats gotta be one of the craziest wheel horses i've seen.

  • thanks man, yeah, the thing rips with that tiny engine on it! fun in the ice!

  • looks like it does ha, if i ever get a horse with a blown engine i'm deff gonna do some thing with a lil honda engine. and you trash picked that OHC honda?

  • Yeah, i have both of those horse's, and a honda on each. great combination. they're red even! yeah, drew trash picked a Pressure washer. and that was on it. even had gas in it, that it ran off of for a while. Its kinda funny having a little 5 HP over head cam engine. timing belt and all! :) you can cruise at very high rpm's with that thing. i have a smaller pully on the trans now, so the top speed in 3'rd high in this video, is about equal to the top speed in 3'rd low now.

  • yeah, the lil engine looks so disproportional to the rest, yet so awesome at the same time. but yeah, if you put it in 3rd high get that on video. load it up on a truck and take it down to some empty parking lot, or full haha.

  • but it doesn't have much power at all in high. the pully is about 2 inches or something way to small, and the belt bending that much seems to actually take power away from it. but 1'st gear high has to be near 15 MPH, and 2nd near 25. haven't been able to use 3'rd yet. need a parking lot for that. and possibly down hill... yeah, deffinatly.

  • really cool.good job!!

  • That trash picked honda was a great find on drews part. that thing must weight about 10 pounds or something... its insane.

  • thats pretty ass bad.

  • man that shit is awesome! i got a 2007 john deere 100 and i can get it to do wheelies, the trick is the ballance point, you would be able to do way better wheelies if you dont lean your body foward when you pop the clutch. whe you do that, lean back not foward

  • thats sweet.

  • †hanks man! yeah, its a cool combination of tractor and engine and danger!

  • dam, that thing cruises!

  • Wow that things tears ass!

  • i might go buy one for the winter... is it a good idea?

  • for fun or for plowing and stuff?

  • both

  • They're great for fun, and for plowing dirt, they're awesome too. the plow is a cool design where it puts the weight from what you're plowing, onto the back wheels. thats the main spot where the plow actually connects. right on the rear axle. but they are sort of light otherwise. so you'd probably want to put wheel wheel weights on it. But i'd deffinatly recomend Wheelhorse's. they Are very well made! and can take alot of punishment.

  • I've been thinking about building a racing lawn mower for years but I never thought using a wheelhorse. It looks so much easier to setup compared to other mowers.

  • Everythings right on the side pretty much, No crawling underneath this puppy! you can't really steer though... but i'm looking forward to some snow and ice this year, i think donuts are in order

  • Sweet ride!

  • thats a bad ass tractor

  • That is a beast!

  • Thanks man! about 27 hours after i made this thing i was romping in the woods, and going up some stuff that was too much, it started hopping, so i had to bail, and got some what hurt by the landing, and landed in a big patch of poison ivy. its a fun tractor. gonna be alot faster!

  • that thing was haulin balls

  • i like the camera work :p that think looks nice, i wish i had something that strong. does suprisingly good wheelies considering the size of the engine and the weight of the tractor. nice work

  • Thanks! i think thats something that wheelhorses are famous for. their wheelie ability. i had to be carefull with the wheelies, it would have flipped completly backwards if i wasn't carefull. that was second gear in high, 3'rd it would just bog the engine. yeah, maybe i should have flipped it backwards... that would have looked cool!

  • Wheel Horse...VERY good to see

  • yeah, we like them alot. they have their own certain ability's that the bolens don't have. and vice versa. but they are deffinatly great tractors!

  • holy fuck!! that thing is the shit!! thats awesome! I love it! 5 star video!! not to mention the AWESOME engine! im gonna make a trip to the local scrap yard with about 300-350lbs of metal im expecting about 150-200bucks, im gonna buy a 6.5hp Honda OHV clone engine for 160 bucks for my bolens =]

  • Thanks man! Nice. we were going to put this on a bolens 1054, which is the same as you'rs but newer, and with high and low in the trans. That 6.5 should be real nice on it! scap was up to 13 cents a pound around here for a little while. for steel/light iron. aluminum and stuff was more. but now its down to 9 cents a pound. so 350 pounds around here would get me about 31 bucks. do you trash pick? thats where this engine came from! off a pressure washer.

  • oo nice!! did it run when you got it? oo idk maybe prices went DOWN big time.. but last time i went.. they said about 48c for steel. umm no i dont trash pick! i want to though. i should though! just go find metal =] but yeah 6.5 should be enough =]

  • nice hahhaha. My wheel horse just ate another belt. it has a 1980 hv70 motor on it. Its a 1962 552 mostly use it for mowing in the summer but we romp it in the winter. I gotta look into a biggger pully for winter use. too bad you guys arenot closer I could use an old kohler like that as a rebuildible core.

  • Sweet- with a slightly shorter belt that thing should really scream.

Most racing go karts use 5 HP blocks- makes sense to use one like that.

I have a 5HP honda side shaft id like to use on a project sometime. Hmm, might use it on my wheelhorse thats been sitting for two years.....

  • yeah, the wheel horse has high and low, so i'm going to put that smaller pully on the trans, and then use low for normal speeds, similar to what high normally is, then use high for crazy dangerous speeds.

alot of racing go karts use the GX 160 honda's like the on on the raider 10 in the vid. that thing has taken our abuse for a long while now. time to see how this over head cam engine can deal.

cool, make a video of it if you combine them. honda's and wheelhorses go great together!

  • I need to get a pull start 'hat' for the honda motor- sometime ill mess with it when im bored....

  • hat?? is that the recoil assembly that bolts on the air shroud with three 10 mill bolts/nuts?

  • yep- the recoil bit is broken- doesnt engage the engine.

  • man that thing is gonna fly!! I liek the whole commentary thing there, like he said, epic.
