@Middler124 Roy Halladay overrated? youre so wrong. He was at al east the hardest division in baseball and always came out winning 18 - 20 games with low ERA now in phillie he is the number 1 contender of the cy young with 21 wins and 2.44 ERA plus over 200 strikeouts and 250 innings pitched. So please explain how is he over rated?
@rr8999 I like how you respond 8 months after when I originally commented; seriously, I don't even remember typing this. Besides, he didn't do this 8 months ago. The Phillies probably would have been better if they just kept Cliff Lee (who had a better season than Halladay anyway).
@Middler124 yeah i didnt noticed how long ago you wrote this comment and you should check Cliff Lee regular season numbers before writing he had a better season than halladay. Yes in the postseason Cliff Lee has been out of this world but in the regular season he was just average and Halladay was by far the best pitcher in mlb
@rr8999 Yeah, and I did. He had an even better K/BB ratio, gave up HRs at a lower rate, and despite missing like the first month, pitched over 200 innings. They're both very good pitchers, but, Cliff Lee is a smidge better (especially if you look at FIP).
@Middler124 yes but there is one little thing the ERA, halladay allowed less earned runs in 250 innings than Lee in 212, strikeouts i know halladay had more innings and games but still he managed to get 219. The only thing Lee was actually better was in the WHIP. I really think Halladay was better than Lee in the regular season but i respect your opinion. Still I think ur wrong
@rr8999 LOL ERA. That is not the best stat to use. ERA is the average of runs allowed so it doesn't matter how many innings you go. If you're good, the average should reflect that whether it be 200 or 250 innings. That being said, ERA could be negatively influenced by defense. It's not fair to compare two pitchers especially when Halladay had a better defense behind him than Lee. Plus, he was pitching while hurt for a month. And like I said, he was better in K/BB, FIP, HR/9, and WAR.
@Middler124 dude EARNED RUN AVERAGE, if runs comes from an error doesnt count in the ERA, and I said was in more innings he managed to allow less earned runs not only earned runs average
@rr8999 I don't think that you understand Defense. Yes, errors can be bad, however, that is misleading. An error shows that the fielder actually had a play but messed it up. For example, a shortstop can just stand still and allow the ball the pass behind him to the outfield. That wouldn't be an Error, but, it's bad defense. Defense has more to do with range than errors anyway. Like I said, the only thing that the pitcher is 100% responsible for are Ks, BBs, HRs, etc.
@Middler124 Tim's over rated... look at how he did this year they over pitched him and he's barely 500 like hideo nomo there catching on to his release...Cliff lee jump from 3 different teams in the last 2 years. battling injury and mariner run suport. He's going to be legit. Halladay won cy young in both leagues. Threw a post season no hitter and a perfect game No way he's overated. OH btw im not a phillies fan
@ILoveKimPearson I wrote that original comment over a year ago. I retract my old comment. Halladay is not overrated. He is the best pitcher in baseaball, though, Timmy is among the best. W/L record doesn't mean anything. I feel like Timmy hasn't been quite as good since 2009. I feel as he ages, he'll mature and be even better. No hitters and perfect games do not equal automatic best pitcher. Those are incredibly lucky. Anyone can have one really good game, few do, regardless of skill.
You put Lincecum in the place of Carpenter or Wainwright and he would get 23+ wins. The idiots that vote for the Cy Young award seem to only look at the wins column for their determination and it really pisses me off.
why do people think Roy Halladay is an amazing pitcher just because he pitched a perfect game?
