Actually, ive found if you hit any button during that segment, they all seem to do their thing, you just have to do it to the beat as always. I might be wrong though, its been a while since I last played xD. Hope that helps.

The game unfortunately never really got a proper US release. While the original was released for the Dreamcast, Part 2 never came out for that system. Fortunately Sega brought it over years later packaged as a special edition for the ps2, which has both parts.

But a lot of translation errors are in the english version, and some weren't fixed at all....for example, the cheerleaders with thick japanese accents from level 4-2.

The timing's to perfect plus your mimicking the move set without adding any special movements (such as mixing Puddin's guitar set with a left or a right instead of just a down) It's obviously the CPU playing on auto pilot. /=

Probably. You can turn on auto by holding R1+L1 and pressing (I think it's) circle, triangle then square.

It makes sense to be on auto. Who really wants to watch an imperfect run. Space Channel 5 isn't really a game to boast about high scores in so it's not really cheating.

Part of the fun in these games is "that part" where someone normally screws up or gets thrown off, and the thrill of overcoming these obstacles. Or, flair (customisation). It would be most noticeable here where Michael Jackson cries out totally different samples depending on the direction pressed. Beside, the thrill of getting all of the moves down (the game-playing aspect) removed, you're almost just as well listening to the soundtrack without the visuals. It's just more fun when unpredictable.
