@secretsantababe11 Look at SAFD.ORG. That is the website for the Society of American Fight Directors. Many college theater departments have some type of stage combat class, but you can also look at private classes and regional workshops. If you are thinking of getting into Acting, it is really important that you learn at least as little of this to keep yourself safe in any show.
@Dannik001: I'll be honest...I don't know what kind of kick that was. Angle is key though. You have to make sure you're directly in front of your "victim" but your foot is always at least a whole foot away so you don't land any shots. : ) Thanks for the comment.
If you all care to see something other than stage combat, I am also a musician as well as an actor. Last Thanksgiving I produced my own funny rap music video called Turkey Killer. It has gotten some nice response so far and I wish for it to get more popular. If you care to check it out, please do. I promise it will at least give you a good laugh for the day. YouTube: Turkey Killer. It's the top video by Zubris (My rapper name) Have a great day.
I want to sincerely thank everyone who watches this video. We really appreciate it as we didn't realize all the amazing comments we're getting, so thank you. Demonccm2 all the sounds are called knaps and they are produced different ways depending on the type of 'hit' you are supposed to be receiving as getting kicked in real life would sound different than getting punched. A majority of the sounds are produced by either clapping hands together, or slapping your own body to produce a sound.
@Demonccm2 There's certain techniques to do them, When he slapped him, they could be slapping there hands against each others, or the person being slapped could slap his own hand. Punching, by punching his palm of his hand and the kicks by hitting the face of his shoe against the other guys hand.
Could you guys do a tutorial or something? Your ability to hide your knaps are AWESOME! As a fellow actor, it would really help to get some pointers! Thanks !
What are you talking about? Your skills are amazing! I want to study in this but i'm only 13. Me and my friend do Stage Combat out in the street and we've had people pull over a few times. Stage Combat is extremely fun!
at 1:02 he fell wrong. You could hurt yourself like that. I have a professional teaching me for a show, and you have to roll down on the side of your spine. you could get parailzed if you dont. hmm.....
I believe there are many correct ways to fall. His fall was completly safe. The loud thud you heard was a nap produced by his hands. He landed on a large muscle mass (his butt)
No he didn't fall incorrectly. He performed a standard backwards fall. One can choose to land either on the outer thigh or on the butt. Everyone teaches stage combat a little differently
the first time i watched this i was like holy shit..they were really hittin each other..lol...the hit at 2:07 is beautiful..the groin kick stumped me for a long time..lol..i am gonna take an unarmed stage combat class this summer and i hope it teaches similar techniques..and i hope that i can be half as good as you guys. GREAT JOB!
how did you hide the knaps? after watching the video i cannot find the knaps. as a fellow actor, it would be very beneficial to me if you could tell me how you hid the knaps, especially the ones at the beginning
I really think that's one of the best unarmed stage fights I've ever seen. And GREAT work on masking the naps, it all looked and sounded really authentic! Well done. :)
Nice! Just started to get into stage combat, having completed BADC lvl 1. This fight had great intention, the reactions worked really well for most of it. My only criticism would be that the double head-kick at 1:46 didn't quite work, victim looks too much in control of the whole thing. Other than that I really like this fight all round. Good work guys.
wow man this is what am talking about this is art!!, o and forget the video u saw at my pg lol some ass put it there, am gonna start putting real ones soon
Good job on the naps, but top notch on actually 'selling' the hits. My only comment would be a bit of delay before the two kicks to the face.
I agree that fight you commented on wasn't solid (i'm surprised that it's received so many views). We're a 3 year classical theatre conservatory in Toronto. The videos I have posted are the 1st years work throughout the year. Here's links to some of the better fights. Let me know what you think! Any feedback would be most appreciated.
Okay, is the napping done offstage or something? I've watched it a dozen times now and can't find ONE spot where the napping is visible. Am I completely missing something?
great performance
