  • @djlavish : Wow, is this your realtime work speed? Or was video post processing involved (cutting, speedup)?

  • I see you're studying the binomial theorem :)

  • installed it 2 days ago and like it. But i was wondering, how do i switch between bottom stack tiling and normal tiling?

  • Cool !!!!!

  • wow it looks nearly identical in functionality to xmonad!

  • I installed dwm yesterday night. But I have a problem when trying to open a youtube video in full screen.

    How to solve this problem?

  • I installed yesterday night dwm... but I have problem trying to open a youtube video in full screen...

  • i like using DWM on a laptop - i find using the trackpad to drag windows around a waste of time. Very easy to have 2 things open that you're viewing side by side.

Nice how the source, being so simple, means you can customize it quite easily to work exactly how you want, e.g. ALT+Cursors to navigate the screen, very intuitive..

  • What I find interesting with dwm is that it is doing exactly what a window manager is supposed to be do i.e. managing windows. There are a couple of programs that doesnt work very well with dwm because they assume the window manager is not a tiling one but those programs are not worth using anyway. The interface of dwm together with good bash knowledge is an unbeatable duo once you have mastered it.

  • What was the IRC client? Irssi? SIC? II?

  • irssi ;)

  • And it compiles really really fast ^^

  • I've been using wmii. Can you tell wat makes DWM better than WMII?

  • You won't deal with uriel :P

  • Simple. You don't have to use weird WMIIR commands for simplest task. Just change something in the source, recompile it, and WHOO!

  • Wmii is scriptable without recompilation. I've been using wmii for two weeks now (shameful), and I got it to do everything I want. I have an open mind, but what really makes dwm it better?

  • I tried it out, and it did not meet my expectations. Wmii lets me snap to corners of windows and is layered; dwm relies too much on the mouse. I also did not find intuitive ways to create and destroy columns and I like the extra layer wmii gives me, which also lets me launch things that don't like tiles neatly while keeping the tiles on the background; dwm provides a similar functionality, but it is modal; it doesn't let me retag windows to whatever I want without recompilation.

  • Dwm recompiles quickly, so it isn't much of a problem, but is inconvenient. Full screen works better in wmii as well, and I did not notice any difference in performance. A nice thing about dwm is that it kept my SLiM background on default.

And I like the weird commands!
