i don't know how you went through everyone of those chords with a straight face. i had a friend watching it trippin acid and he thought he was going crazy.
You give such much enjoyment to people thanks so much for your work. When you threw out the 13th i was like what the he!!! but not so hard. i can play it but i like knowing the theory. i'm not up to 13ths in theory yet but can't wait. Thx again
dude you are a fantastic teacher and you must be a nice guy too, but.....you freaking talk too much!!!! Play more, talk less and you will be excellent dude!
4:41 - "Music theory is important, but I wanna get you playin' and havin' fun."
I wish music teachers around the world can say this line so honest and casually to their pupils. I thought learning guitar is impossible since I can't read notes and have no basic theory, but your tutorial videos prove it wrong.
@digiwurmz - hey there - really appreciate you writing in and saying such nice things - really appreciate it and it means a lot to us here at Next Level Guitar - thanks again and keep on rockinG!
@digiwurmz Obviously you can play guitar without music theory. Guitar always sounds even if you don't know what you're playin'. You just need a person that tells you what you have to play over this and over there. But you can't play guitar professionally and it's really hard to know what to play (in home situations too) without even the most basical music theory. You can take it like a loosin' time hobby.
@torinow - Hi - yes, we ship our products all over the world - and many of our dvd sets include free international shipping - so no problem at all - rock on!
@b5b9 - Hi - sure, I plan on doing some lessons jazz lessons using these changes in this video as the rhythm - so please stay tuned for more lessons in this series - take care and rock on!
@rockongoodpeople Best short answer to this is....Arpeggios.......can't play single line jazz without them - and they'll improve any kind of guitar you want to learn...guaranteed.
Nice lesson. i think this is a great intro to jazz, because a lot of standards are just a couple of iiVi's (Autumn leaves, middle piece of Blue Bossa) or a combination of that (Satin doll). What I would really recommend for beginner jazz guitarist is to learn your notes on the neck, this is soooo important and it always hits me that a piano player knows the notes of his/her instrument after the first lesson, while guitarist can go years without really knowing their instrument.
@robicool - thanks so much bro - appreciate that! Yeah, its a great reference manual that I wrote to help students see many scales and the fretboard diagrammed out on paper and then transfer to the video lessons - enjoy and keep on rocking!
Hi - Tim is still here at next level guitar - he works hard on all the behind the scenes stuff like all the computer related protocols and new ideas, marketing plans, and email materials - stay tuned for more of his lessons too as he posts cool lessons every now and then - rock on!
@dayone54 - hi, just click on the link below the video in the text box and fill in the info in the box in the right lower corner and we will then send you an email to confirm then we email the free video lesson and free Ebook - enjoy and keep on rocking!

quick question, i jsut ran into this problem, im playing on a diffrent turning (drop c#) and im woundering if playing a g chord means playing it the same way as standered tuning
Hi - I am playing straight 8ths in this lesson as I wanted to start off this lesson series on Beginner Jazz with the very basics, mainly chords and progressions and a little theory. I try to keep the variables to a minimum at first, or at least for the first few lessons. Later on in the series we can get into swing rhythms and other ways to jazz up the basics - stay tuned for more - will post part two very soon - rock on!
Hey David, been watching your vids from a year ago or so i think, first thing i could play was some easy thing you thought me in one of your videos. And now today i can make my own little riffs and stuff
I wanna say to anyone that is new to guitar that if you just practice enough, you can get as good as you want to be, practice is all you need. I never thought i could ever do the "Sweet Child'O Mine" Intro thingy, but i can do it now :D
Good luck and thank you David for getting me started!
@drawingdude4711 - hey man - thanks so much for all your kind words - really appreciate you saying such nice things and it means a lot to me - thank you.
Keep up all that hard work on that guitar - sounds like you are making stellar progress - keep it up and rock on!
@mynamis1192 - Hi - sounds like it may be a non USA made Telecaster - maybe made in Mexico. Many of the made in Mexico strats and teles are good values for the money. Try it out and see how it feels in your hands and how it sounds to your ears. Enjoy and rock oN!
@rockongoodpeople have also been watching for a long time. and your guitar picking and playing have really helped me. you explain way better than any teacher i have ever had. i have learned more from you that i have never met face to face over the year than the guy i see twice a week for the past six. no lie man
@rockongoodpeople hey david i bought the tele and its actually a 1986 american one im sohappy for the price and its all thanks you man so again thanks a lot and rock on too !
Hey David, is it ok to play jazz with heavy distortion? I've wanted to learn how to play jazz guitar but the tone I usually hear sounds too sterile for my tastes. When I try to to the same with even moderate distortion it sounds nothing like jazz.
i don't know how you went through everyone of those chords with a straight face. i had a friend watching it trippin acid and he thought he was going crazy.
