There seems to be a bunch of inspiration taken from the Neverhood. I love when an artist (especially one like Doug) can come up with a completely new idea using inspirations from previously completed works of theirs, it shows the ability to remain consistently creative in the same medium. Doug is one of the greats, he's been a true inspiration to me and artists everywhere, and many many thanks for posting this video. By the time you read this comment, I'll have watched this numerous times.
