30mm is like 1 1/4" and 50mm is like 2" , I have been looking on the the instructions from differents brands including certainteed and none of them mention 30mm or 50mm overhang, i

another reason I prefer 30-50mm overhang , is so that they extend right into the gutter where the wind can't pick them up. I asume that in Texas, they have a 3/8 max overhang for the same reason with nails holding down the starter close to the ply deck edge... as Texas and Australia have some Very strong winds. Besides, This guy still uses Silicone despite my telling to use a polyurathane sealant

btw. Telling people that they can just do it them self is not a great Idea unless you tell them that by doing so they void all manufacture warranty as per Certaineed, IKO, GAF, BP etc. etc Stipulate that only qualified Shingle Installers should apply Shingles to any Roof Structure

I think this us in Australia from the accent where this is not a normal roof. In this video it looked like his starters. Had the glue line at the top instead of the bottom which is why you would cut them instead of just turning them upside down. Also, 10mm overhang?!?not much room to prevent capillary reaction. Shingle should be min 30mm - 50mm or 1 1/4 - 2 inch overhang. I'd kick my guys ass if they did only 10mm

@feralchild13 I must correct myself as now that I am seeing this on a better monitor, I see that the Starters are right side up, still, 10 mm over hang is bad news man, I also heard someone say that in Australia they also extend the ply 1-1/2 inches into the Gutter... I hope that is not true, what stops it from warping?

@feralchild13 3/8" overhang is what manufacter recommend ,at coastal bend area, texas department of insurance will disapprove the complete roof job even if you do it 1/4" more than the 3/8"

@2miangels in Texas they use the minimum, as for insurance purposes I reckon they like to save that little bit extra so that there isn't an extra 2-4 packs requiered so that the tar lines aren't visible under the ridge capping. something to think about. Besides this is Australia and this bloke here leart everything from a book a roofer wrote one winter in Ohio.... as for me, I've been union trained and Certainteed Certified

wrong way to hold a nail when hand banging never set ur hammer down thats what a pouch is for and buy a roofing hatchet. P.s you only need to hit a roofing nail 2.

all I can say I"m really amaze, EXCELLENT INSTAlLATION this is the best 3-tabs shingles installation so far on all the you tube videos I'm sorry for all the wanabesroofers but this guys just show the right way to do it.

1. starters perfectly cut from tabs.

2. nailing pattern just under tar line where the nail is suppose to be.

3. no trying to impress nobody with speed.

4. clean job.

5. use of chalk line.
