title of this video is wong the name of is this tuen is Itchy Fingers. the kid is great though i wish i have started playing bagpipes at a younger age.
Agreed with the comment below mine he took it too quickly and his timing when to pot.
Although if he took his time it wouldve sounded quite decent :/. Also this piper clearly knows nothing about busking.... Tucked away in that doorway with his bag no where near anybody. Surprised he got anything :/
i can hear in his playing a little fast, he is rushing, and it is really taking a toll in the first four parts. in the fourth part the held d doesnt sound all that great as he is playing too quickly, and if he slowed it down a little bit it would sound a much better. but it could also be the sound quality. but i will say he did play the 5th 6th and 7th part quite well
I was working at Fort Snelling, living on site, when I heard pipes on a foggy morn--perfect! There, near the Twin Cities international airport was a lone piper practicing "where [he] wouldn't bother anyone." This tune I'd not heard before, and I asked its name. Alas, I've forgotten the piper's own! I brought out some Lagavulin, and we shared a dram. Alas also, that libation now too expensive for a working man. But, the fond memory endures, and I request this song and "Amazing Grace" at my ending
I've been piping for well over thirty years, and, must admit the trend is to play even a hornpipe at breakneck speed. Perhaps pop/rock groups like Brother have a lot to do with this fad. Young pipers, my advice to you is SLOW DOWN! Keep the soul in the music. You can still play "Clumsy Lover" at a hrnpipe tempo and please your audience.
@boetg1 i understand you have been playing pipes for a long time, but as a dancer, i find that hornpipes are almost always too slow so i think its nice to see a hornpipe that you actually dance to at a decent speed :)
i am meaning no disrespect to you as a very experienced piper, but from a dancers point of view i like it :)
wow.. slow down my friend. everything blended in together... its a hornpipe and should be treated as such.. i have no idea where the idea if a fast piper is a GOOD piper came from, or where all these irish and cape breton influences came from. especially in traditional piping. Im pretty sure Neil Dickie, the composer of this tune, meant it as a uplifting hornpipe, keep the tempo down to give it expression. but well done to the piper, keep the hands moving. and dont let the pipes fall silent

Why do bagpipers march when they play?
To get away from the noise.
