  • na-na-na...... nananananana part really helped thank you. i turned of the coked as soon as it started doing nanananana.. otherwise i would have let it go on for more than that never knowing the problem

  • the older generations like mine have a core temp instead of a fuel gauge.

  • ?? my ninja doesn't have that. I 've got the 2008.

  • @CJAndy1 then its probably fuel injected, lets just say she does it by herself.

  • nanananananananaaanana

  • er6n restricted, xj6 restricted or ninja 250r?

  • it maybe late but the choke lets a higher ammount of fuel and air to enter the engin and allow the fuel to ignite easier, when the engin is warmed up and the choke is still on it dies because youve basicly flooded the engine :)

  • @TheAkumasenshi wrong it almost cuts off all air supply apart from a small hole in the carb air intake and doesent change the amount of fuel it lets the fuel ignite and not be dumped down by air only when the engine is at temp then the air helps teh engine run properly

  • @pip3214 ahh sorry my mestake, i know when the choke is on it runs rich, im mestaken on how the carb did that. thenk you for enlightening me on this

  • or just get a fuel injected bike like my honda cbf :P solved. who needs a choke in 2012!

  • @laurencefrazer not everyone is rich like u...

  • hi great video can you please do a video on how to use the key in the ignition please or perhapse which way to sit on the bike facing the front or the back or what the difference is riding the bike with a flat tire?

  • @stevedragon666 Go to your local special education center, they would gladly help.

  • I can just tell you, there's a totaly different matter, using the choke here in Norway in the winter :P

  • @idiotVSwilde Indeed, although I don't live in Norway, I have to leave my bike running for several minutes on choke, and then depending on the weather, have to keep riding with it on to keep it running..

  • Idle for a few minutes? 10 minutes? Wow, that's how you annoy neeghbours. I let it idle for a minute, maybe 2 if it's in winter. But I do have a louder sports bike that doesn't go "put put put" when it idles, it still makes a smoothish rev noise.

  • So if you set the choke on, is it the same as giving it a tiny bit of gas and holding it there? So it kind of acts as a throttle offset?

  • @saintforaday not really, because you are changing the mixture of fuel to air, rather than just giving it more fuel AND air. The choke restricts the air and dumps more fuel into the carbs, and more fuel = more boom = gets hotter faster.

  • great video bro, very informative.

  • Bikes are alot harder to steal than you think. You cant just push it around and expect to steal it. It takes a while to warm up so obviously people are going to see you. If you dont know how it works then obviously you cant ride it off. Basically the only way to steal it is to load it on a trailer and drive off

  • if you start riding in when it's still cold, will it die?

  • and thnx for vid its very cold where i live it started snowing and i had to watch a video to how to do this because i do not want my baby lying out there cold and lonly

  • your neighbors must of not heard of youtube talk about living under a rock

  • "hey hey heyyyyy goooodbye"

  • I live in sunny florida, USA and it dies t get cold her for about 75% of the year. So wen i wake up in the mprnings its already warm or hot out. Do i need to really give my bike time to "warm up"?

  • neeeeeighbours, everybody needs good neeeeeighbours (8)

  • Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na .....and then it will be NaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNa.. :P

  • dude when im using the choke, but it shuts off while the engine is very cold, what should i do?

  • Omg sell me your bike!

  • @Sketchez09 there is like a million around!

  • so i live in a fairly warm part of the united states so if i use mybike early in the morning and its like 75-85 degrees outside should i use the choke and let my bike warp up ? or since its already kinda warm just turn it on and go?

  • 'It's Midday today' Yeah? and tomorrow will be a lovely Night and Thursday will be a gorgeous Morning

  • i like how this guy say hes not actually gonna explain what a choke does.... and then he starts explaining what it does.

  • I have a question! Like on a 125ccm bike. Amm with full fuel, like how many Km/Mph like with 1 Liter fuel.

  • Warming up? Just ride the bloody thing.

  • Like your vids. Really simple and informative.

  • it takes less than 30 seconds in injected bikes, it takes less than 1 minute with carb bikes, (on average days in california temp)

  • Must be the Aussie accent that makes it so easy to listen to your videos! lol Keep em coming you've taught me quite a bit about my ex250.

  • let me hear u say uh na na na na

  • @blinkycab : in the morning when I start my bike with the choke on, my bike turns off. is this normal? what should I do? I have a Suzuki Raider 150cc. its an underbone bike. Im really worried that my bike's engine might wear off its internals bcoz of not being able to warm up properly. I let my bike idle 2-3mins in the morning without using the choke, just start the bike then let idle for 2-3 mins. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry it's just 1min. But when I run it in the morning I never rev it high

  • @kirkscream dude its fine...your not going to wear anything out doing that.

  • Good vid, was wondering about the choke as im getting my first bike. Perfect video!

  • Great quality thanks

  • what do you meen your only gonna have it for another year or so. what are you gonna do with it

  • bikes are like dicks both like lubrication all over

  • your australian accent is really awesome xD,

  • OH I WANT TO FUCK YOUR BIKE !!

  • And by the time you got all your gear on and lock your door the bike is gone

  • Comment removed

  • @MadDogMeh Depends on the country. My bike is a 2010 SE Ninja and it's not fuel injected. Different countries = different emission laws :)

  • Comment removed

  • @blinkycab apparently almost all european ninjas are fuel injected where as american models and so on aren't :D

  • lol im sorry to sound like a complete idiot but in one of your other vids you said if you dont know about rpms then you shouldent we riding a motorcycle right...well Im pretty sure it means revolutions per minute or something along those lines, so how do you know when to go to a different gear? also i dont have a ninja yet but i would like to learn more about them and get one eventually =P

  • Cool video!

  • What security systems would you put on your motorbike? Well for security precautions!

  • choke warms up bike i wont need it i live in texas

  • man I want this bike so bad but I'm only 15 turning 16 In September and the insurance cost for this bike is $4700 a year for a guy with an M1 license :(

  • what does choking do?

  • @lonelykatana

MM yeah. But how less explosion in the engine will damage the engine? That I atleast yet don't understand. As I know more gasoline also cools down engine while more air makes engine more hot.

And installing a turbo makes engine life shorter, as also increasing pressure of turbo also makes engine life shorter, or even too much air pressure into engine will cause the engine explode.

  • i just leave it there.. go inside, get my shoes, my helmet and when i go back outside.... WHERES MY FUCKING BIKE!!!!" lol

  • @madbam07 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH !! xD

  • Does the 2010 model have a choke ?

  • 6:50 lol I care very much. thanks for the tips

  • ok everyone (that cares lol) I decided that I am getting either a r6 or a cbr600rr as my first bike!!!

  • @skittles47s ALRIGHT -thumbs up- :D

  • my choke keeps closing on its own. What could be the problem? by the way, its a 1988 kawasaki ninja

  • i buy it but i have to start & ride .no time (andits in a hall) to get it warm .. but the highes would be 60km/h. is this bad for the bike ?

  • im getting that exact bike in 3 months lol

  • i just got my ninja 250 and i was wondering what a normal tachometer reading is when riding at normal speeds?

  • @utubeteam6 I dunno man - depends on speeds and gears. I guess around 6-7000 rpm. Higher if you are on the freeway or something.

  • 3 ppl dont know what choke is lol

  • but you can start without choke. and if it works its better to start without, or not?

use the choke only on real cold days, is what i heard from my dealer

  • Awesome Vids man!, just wondering would you do a video on how to pick up a dropped bike? dropping a bike can ruin a bike but is there a way you can set it down safely without damaging it and have the video show the viewers how to pick up a bike? Also could you do a vid on driving with fellow riders on the road? like how close do you follow and where to be alongside them, you know distance and what not?

  • so glad u did this video. i bought my bike from a motorsports center, was so excited that i didnt realize that it came with no manual. almost bought one for 50 bucks on ebay just to find the choke! LOL

i know what the with cruisers theyre located near the engine, wouldve never looked near the clutch for the choke. Thanks again!

  • @jewsee No worries - thanks

  • if over 21 in the uk u can do a direct access course u do your cbt test on a 125 and lessons on a 500cc when passed your test your unristricted to riding any bike of any engine size

  • my ninja 650r doesnt have a choke. =[

  • @ewwww4 Then it's probably fuel injected buddy! :)

  • I thought 2009 and up was a fuel injected engine?

  • @Johnnybomb1 There are 2 different models - one with fuel injection and one with carburetor. Depending on the emission laws for where you live in the world determines what model will be sold there.

  • @blinkycab Which one is better?

  • @skittles47s The fuel injection would be - it's more modern and electronically controlled.

  • does an EFI model have a choke? cause ive heard that the 250r hasnt got EFI in some countries

  • @lkca258258 EFI doesn't have a choke, the fuel injection system looks after all of that

  • @blinkycab can you get the carbs with the electronic choke for the 250?

  • can you shift your gears up whithout using clutch while riding......after 1st gear........

  • @vadivalu Not on this bike - it's learner approved so I think that's a reason why. Other bikes you can.

  • @blinkycab you actually can, ive done it.

  • @blinkycab Yea , my father said that in every bike you just cut the throttle but in my lesson's motorcycle I must use clutch or it will raaaggghh ... Why do they make it so dificult?

  • @jorgecosta95 because you have less retards on the road like you in that case...

  • @PAINmedia Hey , go fuck yourself!

  • @vadivalu rebelyell91 has a video of him doing some clutchless shifting his ninja 250r. just search ninja 250r clutchless shifting, its the first video.

  • I see some videos they need to press the clutch before you start your bike but your bike don't have to do that?

  • @AramisDeVannes If my bike is in neutral it will just start without holding the clutch in. I've heard on some bikes you have to hold the clutch in to start also.

  • Yes I think they have some kind of safety switch. I thought it was some kind of safety thing thought in the driving school.

  • @blinkycab

It's a good idea to always do it. Bikes (almost all except some Ducatis) have a wet clutch. If you live in a place that gets quite cold the oil can get very viscous so even if the bike starts in neutral you can move the bike a small bit. Not usually an issue if you hold the brake though.. Also puts less strain on your starter motor and battery if you pull the clutch in.

  • @AramisDeVannes suzuki's require u to pull the clutch no matter if its in neutral or in gear..

  • Mine doesn't have a choke! - So I looked it up in case others are wondering: "The 250R uses two Keihin carburetors, with the jetting revised for the new engine. Informed readers will wonder why the U.S. version doesn't come with the fuel injection system found on the 250R in Europe. The answer is on the price tag."

  • Thanks a bunch : )

  • hey mate can you do a video of how ypu on the moto way filming how fast you can go please

  • I enjoyed the video! that your for your information. now subscribing and viewing more videos. Question; about another comment, What about buying it in the US would it have mph or km/h as a speedometer?

  • Thanks for the advise. I just got my ninja 250r yesterday, and i tried to go down the street today and when i stopped down the street i couldn't go on because the engine was too cold.

  • i dont like bikes that have km/h as the main speedometer

  • @Nihadkeso It really comes down to the region you live in.

  • @Nihadkeso and i dont like bikes that have mph as the main speedometer.

  • blinkycab, how long should a complete beginner ride his 250r for him to move up to cbr600

  • @o0jun0o I think it's matter of comfortability. There is no actual time frame, because what's suited for one person will be different to another. You could jump right onto a 600 and just go from there or you could ride around on a 250 for 1 year and the move up. It's just up to your confidence and how comfortable you are with a bike. :)

  • @o0jun0o Also depends where your problem areas of riding are... For example when i started riding i had no problems with clutch control or gears, but i had problems with lights, indicating and carparks... haha... so i worked on them, but i dont see how those things would be different on a 600... A 600 may be physically bigger although i have a hyosung gt250r and it is exactly the same physical size as the hyosung gt650r... so yeah, not sure that explained anything...

  • This vid is perfect, I also just bought my first bike, a zx6r (2000) and it has a choke and I had some questions about it. You answered them all, thanks alot. keep up the great vids!

  • @juniormph Thanks

  • Hey Blinky, your videos are sweet man and I love your humor. I have a 09 KLX250 Kawasaki, just like yours but it is a dual sport. The 250 is a great motorcycle to have!

  • Here's VERY good advice on how to use the choke and start up a motorcycle: YouTube video "baChNAvSNeU"

  • One more thing:

While the bike does need to get oil into it, it will be mainly lubricated after a few seconds when the sump level goes down, and the only thing left is for it to get to temp. You CAN ride it right away (even with the choke on at the level i mentioned before), but just keep the RPMs down (under 3000) until the choke is off (do this as soon as you can--1 to 2 minutes). The bike will warm up a LOT faster when moving, so cruise at ~15-20MPH after choke is off, and you'll be good.

  • NEVER leave the choke on and run inside for minutes on end. The choke should be used JUST ENOUGH to keep the bike on idle, and then turned off immediately when the bike can idle on its own. The richer mixture will damage the engine over time.

    Here's how to do it:

    1. Turn the choke on full and start the engine.

    2. Immediately turn it down until the bike idles at ~1300rpm

    3. Test with throttle after 15-20 seconds, to see if there's any lug/lag

    4. Turn off choke when it will run without it.

  • @neurodude45 the amount that it makes it run rich wont damage ur motorcycle it will only affect the RPMs while its idleing and as soon as u turn the throttle it defeats the purpose of the choke because it opens the throttle bodys

  • @neurodude45 hmm i rode my new bike firt time today i guess i started it with choke too high but it was only once so now i know

  • @neurodude45

    Now thats some wierd info..

I know that engine could be make even so rich that the gasoline drops out of the exchaust, but that does not brake up the engine. How it even could? I don't understand how it would be possible.. Instead when running with too less of gasoline might brake up.

  • @neurodude45 You are quite correct, however a richer mixture is good for an engine. The choke isn't bad for the engine because of the mixture, it's bad because it revs the engine higher which is not good while the engine is cold.

  • Hey blinky, nice informative videos! I subbed to ya :)

  • Hey blinky. Love your videos man. Wondering how anxious you are getting to get a new bike these days. Is the 250 still rocking your socks or are you ready for something bigger? Any ideas what the next bike will be?

  • @twotontito Hey bud, I'm still loving the Ninja but definitely looking forward to a 'real' bike. I'm tossing up between either a Yamha R6, Kawasaki ZX-6R or Honda CBR600RR. I was leaning towards the kwaka...then it went to the CBR...and now I think it's on the R6. So I have no idea really haha. (the devil voice in my head is saying R1 tho)

  • @blinkycab U should buy ZX6R, believe me :)

  • @blinkycab get the r1 :D

  • @ajones6302 I'm glad people are finding it useful. Thanks

  • how come you're only going to have your bike for just another year???? it makes me sad :(

  • @Jrdec Don't be sad. I'll only sell the 250r to buy a bigger bike. :)

  • @blinkycab whatcha think you're gonna get? Plus why do you wanna upgrade? I plan on getting one of these bikes but I keep hearing from others that I will get bored with it very fast and that I should start off with something more powerful. What's your input on that?

  • @blinkycab I thought the best thing about your Ninja 250 is that it is a 250cc bike... :(

  • @blinkycab Don't!!! a lot people sold their 250r for bigger bike and they are so regret about it

  • have you paid any more attention to your bike in the last couple of months, as far as getting a more accurate timeframe for how long the bike takes to truly warm up? do you really still think it's ten minutes? o.O i have no idea; i was just wondering if you had an updated guesstimate. :)

  • @st1dflea Hey there. I really only let me bike idle for about 3-4 minutes. If it's a warm day then less. It's getting into winter where I am so the mornings are alot colder therefore I let it idle for a bit longer. And ride it easy for the first few kms.

  • hahaha i am watching lots of your videos, ima go through them now, but i have been wanting to hear you rev it :L

its good that you're warming your bike up too! im definately going to let mine warm up and oil through when i get mine. in fact ill make a video when i get it :D shud be about 4/5 months though :(

  • @Norksy Cool man I look forward to seeing it

  • loled really hard at the end.. great to see others looking after their stuff too.. people pretty much think of me a weirdo because I let my bike get ready and ride it easy for the first few miles. "but why do we not warm our cars up then?" oh god its so tempting to argue but I just say its because my bike is old it needs extra caring (which is probably true). nice buy - first bike?

  • awsome vid actually helps alot!!

  • @dankevw thanks man

  • also .. called .. ADVICE whahhahahahahhahah

  • thks u clearn my mine now

  • Great video, i am always having problems with my choke. Like the guy above said, i start and go with high revs, bad mistake. I am still learning about my first bike. Great video

  • Great vid! thanx I just subscribed, this page is definitely a keeper.

  • i see so many bikers just get on their bikes, start and ride then straight away. i almost cry, the damage you can do is untoward! good to see someone else knows how to ride their bike!

the other that gets me is the start and blip on the throttle up to hgh rpms (like 8000) from cold, their is no oil in the cylinders and its metal on metal!! ahhh, i hate it :). i always let my bike warm up whilst i put my gear on, im a nice guy too :P.

  • So choke is really only necessary for cold starts?

  • That's all it's for. Yup!

  • aw man you didnt rev it haha, when are you going to start vlogging? awesome videos!

  • Yeah soon man, I'm really busting to start vlogging. My camera and mic have to get here first. I'm hanging out for it so bad

  • Way cool. Thanks for the info!

  • No problemo

  • hahahaha, i like your vids a lot blinky!

  • Thanks buddy

  • amazing vid thanks so much for making this!

  • I'm glad you liked it. Thanks

  • Ok that was everything i wanted to know but forgot to ask, thanks for upping this.

  • THank you so much for making this video for me

  • That's cool :)
