I love SWG. What would be cool is if they used the first possible version before any patches or expansions and then just perfected the code to fix all bugs and put it on a better graphics engine and made animations better but not use swtor art style, swg art style is much better.
SWTOR is such a shit game compared to SWG. You get to lvl 50, you have nothing to do. No content, pvp is broken. Not too mention poor customer service, and bugs. Its such a shitty themepark game, exactly like WoW. Nothing will beat SWG.

@DonCorleone87 I play PRE-CU SWG. I have to say I think SWTOR looks good, but since it's not player driven and it's got the traditional WOW battle system it wont capture SWGemu fans like myself. I like the concept though
@Lubben If this were 2008 I would be inclined to agree with you on at least the character models, but they have been drastically improved since then. Any of the newer screenshots are clearly superior to anything in SWG.

It was definitely better when Jedi was something you had to earn/learn...it just made more sense...if you wanted to become a Jedi back then you had to train for it.

@jmrwacko I am and I'm not at the same time. It's one of the best mmo's to ever come out and that fact has been overlooked for a long time now. There has hardly ever been a game like it, especially in the mmo genre. There weren't many quests, only some in certain areas of the game. It had more places to explore than any other game, it was open-end...as in you pretty much made your own story, the visuals aren't as bad as you claim and do not make the game.
@jmrwacko Funny to see the new swg is going straight down the shitter and losing their paying customers, because they are either coming back to play SWGemu or they are waiting for the new SW game. The grind, didn't even seem like a grind when you compare it to other mmo's. I never had a problem with lag. And every class had a purpose and could be uniquely combined with another one....afterall there were about 32 professions...more than any other game. So no, you just have very poor taste.

The servers aren't being shut down, most likely they are just shutting down the test phase and now making it public for people to use on their own servers. So no, Swg continues...

420Malus, you're ideas are the type that create the modern day "drive thru" MMO. Like WoW and EQ... the boring rinse and repeat... get new items.. keep the players busy until we release a new patch to get more money and keep them occupied. It's like baby sitting... nothing special comes out of it.
Cant wait till SWTOR comes out.... but i remember i beta'd this game and played it all the way up to the first expansion trying to get a jedi, and gave up just as i became force sensitive. Few years after i came back and the game, was ridiculously bad, and all that time spend grinding to be a jedi, out the door.

I disagree completely. I think it's original and unique to have a game that works off logic. Jedi SHOULD be something special. Bioware has the wrong idea. There shouldn't be a large population of jedi, there wasn't technically in star wars.
Jedi shouldn't be controlled as in no one can be them but they should be REDICULOUSLY HARD to become. As in they should make it beyond tedious and hard to become one. Therefore if you do become one, you put in work to do so and deserve the right.

I remember when I first played swg in '03. I was only 12 at the time and it fucking blew my mind. Ever since the NGE came into effect the game has been a steaming pile of shit.
This was when whenever you heard the ignition of a lightsbaer in Mos Eisly everyone turned around and was trying to find the jedi. I liked how they did the Jedi think in pre nge because in the SWG timeline Jedi arent around. Made it mystique
now anyone can be JEDI .. which in my opinion is .. FAIL ... and anyone who disagree is people that didnt make jedi and now they are jedi by the easy way.

My client is updating right now and I can't wait to play it tomorrow. Unfortunatley, I didn't make it in time for Pre-CU, but I tested out the new version with CU and NGE. IT WAS HORRIFIC! Way to glitchy, and completely non-canon(hundreds of Jedi running around). The test server has cool community events, too. .

SWG was a sandbox, thats what mattered. NGE completely ruined the sandbox effect. Thats why people loved pre cu. not just rare jedi
The game was quite good back in the day, was the most fun i've had in pvp. Oh, and TOR is most likely just going to be Lucas Arts' NGE take 2 with bioware as the bitch instead of SoE. So expect alot of Iconic and Star Warsy bullshit capped off with the 'likeable' aspects of any other mmo's they can copy. =P
I never get tired of watchin this video. The memories were way too fun back then. (This question is for the pre CU players) Is it me....or did the light side jedi seem to more commonly rude...and the dark siders seemed to be more honorable. When I played on Intrepid, it DEFINITELY seemed like the lightsided players acted like how a dark jedi would..just cold and rude...and those who played dark jedi seemed to do the more honorable thing more often than not.

don't know where you get your information from but if you'd look, smugglers and bounty hunters in TOR have melee abillities that are pretty key to their class.

Guess im just a jaded old player, i LOVED the diversity and rich thought the old system required. IT was just too much hell on the coding and their insistence on getting EVERYTHING balanced. NOw if they could have made it work, kept the old system and been able to add in all the content they've added in Since NGE, while keeping the old system, SWG would be the top played MMO HANDS DOWN! wow would be a distant second.

about 3 years ago updates which were the CU (Combat Upgrade) and NGE (New Game Enhancements). They seriously changed the game and how to obtain pretty much everything in it, jedi used to be very hard to achieve, but now you can start off making a character jedi.
I haven't played SWG in a year or so, is it dead now? Last time I was on there were hardly any people. I quit because the screwed it over even worse. I also wish I could have played before the CU :(
We all want pre-cu but to answer your question, no its not dead. It's obviously no where near as good as the old days but the players are increasing quite rapidly now. The new content is alright even if it is recycled from stuff they took out.
I love how all the NGE noobs freak out over Pre-cu jedi. What people don't remember is after publish 9 jedi was no longer the alpha class. Any decent defense stacker could take down a jedi. Only jedi I've seen beat down a good def stacker was Wu Sanchez and that's only because he was so high in the FRS

Cant wait till SWTOR comes out.... but i remember i beta'd this game and played it all the way up to the first expansion trying to get a jedi, and gave up just as i became force sensitive. Few years after i came back and the game, was ridiculously bad, and all that time spend grinding to be a jedi, out the door.

@xXizanebXx Jedi shouldn't be something special. Bioware has the right idea though. Make a starwars game where a large population of jedi is acceptable to the timeline. SWG messed up from the beginning by making jedi better than everyone else. Sure jedi are substantially better than most, but those rules aren't suppose to apply to a video game. No one should have godmode in a multiplayer, and that's why hackers get banned. Flame me if you want, but it's the truth.

I disagree completely. I think it's original and unique to have a game that works off logic. Jedi SHOULD be something special. Bioware has the wrong idea. There shouldn't be a large population of jedi, there wasn't technically in star wars.
Jedi shouldn't be controlled as in no one can be them but they should be REDICULOUSLY HARD to become. As in they should make it beyond tedious and hard to become one. Therefore if you do become one, you put in work to do so and deserve the right.

My client is updating right now and I can't wait to play it tomorrow. Unfortunatley, I didn't make it in time for Pre-CU, but I tested out the new version with CU and NGE. IT WAS HORRIFIC! Way to glitchy, and completely non-canon(hundreds of Jedi running around). The test server has cool community events, too. .

For example, they just had the Fett extermination, a one-night event where the goal was to eliminate all Boba Fett's throughout the galaxy, take a screenshot, and have one character say Boba Fett Event. I wasn't part of it yet, though. Mine is still applying updates for the emu. There was more I had to say, but I forgot. Anyway, hope to see you on the test server : )

@Jacen47 heh i dont think anyone cares anymore about click to become a jedi for 2 reasons. It was inevitable that there would be mass amounts of jedi in swg even in pre-cu and pre-nge. Also, bioware has a much better basis/reason to have masses of jedi. As for nge kicking ass... right. If i wanted to be luke skywalker id go play lego star wars, which i have. SWG was a sandbox, thats what mattered. NGE completely ruined the sandbox effect. Thats why people loved pre cu. not just rare jedi

The game was quite good back in the day, was the most fun i've had in pvp. Oh, and TOR is most likely just going to be Lucas Arts' NGE take 2 with bioware as the bitch instead of SoE. So expect alot of Iconic and Star Warsy bullshit capped off with the 'likeable' aspects of any other mmo's they can copy. =P

I never get tired of watchin this video. The memories were way too fun back then. (This question is for the pre CU players) Is it me....or did the light side jedi seem to more commonly rude...and the dark siders seemed to be more honorable. When I played on Intrepid, it DEFINITELY seemed like the lightsided players acted like how a dark jedi would..just cold and rude...and those who played dark jedi seemed to do the more honorable thing more often than not.

i have plenty, look at the awards and scores their games have gotten, like i said if you'd read, neverwinter nights is an online RPG very similar to an MMO. and its been revered by many gamers.
not to mention many people on TOR's dev staff are members of the pre-cu implmentation of SWG, if you know anything about the game, shortly before the CU launched, a handful of developers quit the company because they didnt agree with the CU, these developers are now on TORs design team.

don't know where you get your information from but if you'd look, smugglers and bounty hunters in TOR have melee abillities that are pretty key to their class.

I just want to point out that Tahiri Veila, was a Jedi who became a Bounty Hunter and used her Lightsaber..were a few others as well :\ Also, Smugglers used rigles and carbines too.
But the game graphics do look a bit toony. I'll still play it, if it sucks, oh well, if it's good, I have something to play. It's the risk anyone takes when buying a new game.

music has nothing to do with MMO's other than they are entertaining. casual gamers? and what exactly is casual? because i wouldn't ever consider playing a game that requires 14 hours a day of play time to be remotely good at it. i consider fps games casual.
WoW's version of 'casual' is the person who plays for a few hours a week, and its definately not set up for them. you need to clock in some time to get anything.

Guess im just a jaded old player, i LOVED the diversity and rich thought the old system required. IT was just too much hell on the coding and their insistence on getting EVERYTHING balanced. NOw if they could have made it work, kept the old system and been able to add in all the content they've added in Since NGE, while keeping the old system, SWG would be the top played MMO HANDS DOWN! wow would be a distant second.

about 3 years ago updates which were the CU (Combat Upgrade) and NGE (New Game Enhancements). They seriously changed the game and how to obtain pretty much everything in it, jedi used to be very hard to achieve, but now you can start off making a character jedi.

We all want pre-cu but to answer your question, no its not dead. It's obviously no where near as good as the old days but the players are increasing quite rapidly now. The new content is alright even if it is recycled from stuff they took out.

I love how all the NGE noobs freak out over Pre-cu jedi. What people don't remember is after publish 9 jedi was no longer the alpha class. Any decent defense stacker could take down a jedi. Only jedi I've seen beat down a good def stacker was Wu Sanchez and that's only because he was so high in the FRS
