Melee attacks are not unique to this game. Lords of Thunder (one of the best 2D shmups ever) also had melee attacks, as well as the sword weapon in Einhander.

this is a great under rated game. i was born in the ps1 (born in 1997) age and when i saw the cover i knew i would love it. it was the first game i had got (ever) when i was 3 and played it every day until i was 6 it is my most favorite ps1 game and in my top 3 most favorite games. i have no idea why this game was so underated

@teh2Dgamer Actually I've been looking for this game,I bought it for like a buck at a dollar mart,but then I got rid of it,now I actually miss it,my only complaint is it's really short,it only takes like 15 minutes to beat,lol,but I love the graphic's,look,and story,as far as it being on the Ps2,it came in a double pack,with Dragon blaze,in Japan,and only Dragon Blaze is sold in the UK,on the Ps2,and as far as I know,it's only on Ps1.And yeah,I'd considerate a underrated Gem too.:D

With two players I was able to beat it pretty quickly. It's harder single player though.
