  • will it fit in an aluma-wallett?

  • Awsome great design Friartuck.

  • I never get tired of revisiting this ingenius stove. I just wish one of you stove addicts could come up with an 'esbit necklace stove'. A tiny survival stove that would use esbit or iso alcohol that you could wear as a necklace to be used in an emergency.

  • I made one with tin cans but haven't tested it out yet on a pan or heavy object...

  • haha neat :P

  • Very cool concept!

  • NOw THAT is too cool !!

  • hold on let me fit this heineken in my wallet

  • Is there any way to adapt this stove to use wood or is it just too tiny?

  • My stove addiction has brought me to research and buy many stoves yet this still has to be one of the most clever and functional ever created! "Make the journey worthy of the destination"...Laurie

  • i tried this with a tin can and it failed :,( i gonna try with thick brass next.

  • really nice stuff

  • Great design!

How well has this stove held up with repeated use?

  • @titan90000 After one year of use it is still going strong. I occasionally clean the Esbit smut off and make it shine again. Change out the foil burn platform after 2 or 3 Esbit burns just to keep the stove clean. I do carry it in my cook pot instead of my wallet - it bends if you sit on it but so do all other stoves.

  • That is very clever.

  • very cool! I'm making one! Thanks

  • Simple and very useful great design Thanks for sharing.

  • Freaking Amazing !!!!!!!

Gonna build one or three soon.

    Thanks for this !

  • Hi Friar, Do you think you could make me o0ne of theese from one of the stainless steel campers mirrors. I think it would be really strong built like that. you shoule sell theese. Please let me know as I would like several. Thanx, Cliff

  • That is a brilliant idea...exactly what I was looking for to burn esbit and a minibulldesign choke hazard...YOU DA MAN!

  • this ais awsome i made solid fuel by taking cotton ball and rubbing them in petrolium jelly then soaking them in wax i cooked oatmeal

  • best ultralight sotve ever i learned how to make solid fuel for this by using tin foil as the base so it can be recycled you can make the fuel by taking cotton balls and rubbing them in petrollium jelly then soaking them in wax works good i mad oatmeal =)

  • Excellent video Friar, and this stove is smallest Ive seen. Perfect for ultra light backpacking excurrsions. Cool music as well.

  • Friar, what is Esbit?

  • Esbit is a high density solid fuel in tablet form. It's the white cube shown on the burn platform. Being solid it can not spill in your pack/bag and soak your gear like liquid fuels. The down side is that it leaves a residue on the bottom of your pot . Coghlan's and StanSport make similar but smaller fuel tablets

  • Friar, you are very clever. I am a bowmaker. That is violin and cello bows. I do silver jewelry too. I will make your stand but not in silver. What is the little block that heats. You should patten this. I will send your video out. Why havent we met before?

  • Thanks amemi21

  • great stuff

  • Thanks

  • This is my all time favorite stove that I've seen here and I'm glad I tripped upon it again because "I'm exploring my potential" by having a mission of creating a pocket stove setup that I can carry anywhere. So this would be the stove I would choose yet now my quest requires me to find a 'pocket pot or cup' to use with the pocket stove. Most of the tin foil cups with water in them would not hold up on this pot stand. I would be indebted if you could experiment with this to find the solution.

  • Laurie, All the foil cups I have used in the past developed leaks from being folded down.

The best compromise I have found is to use a Snow Peak titanium bowl with a foil lid. I add an aluminum wire bail handle so a pot grabber is not necessary. The bowl easily holds 2 cups for Ramen. The weight of 2.8 oz includes bowl, stove, wind screen, tea light cup and a spoon. Snow Peak bowl is about $16.

Snow Peak Titanium Folding Cup is 8 fl oz if you want to go tiny.

  • Thanks, I just won on ebay 6 collapsible aluminum cups that collapse to 2 inches and hold 4 oz of water. It was an accident that I won them yet I think they will work on the wetfire stove. I will be testing it soon. They are very cool!

I'm also going to experiment with an aluminum cookie sheet and copy the oriasko plans for a cup and see if that works.

  • i use old alum. lic plates hammered flat. i have some smooth ones i used to airbrush on. they are great for wind screens too!

  • That's a great idea.

  • could you pm me the plans? i'd like to try it out myself as well.

  • No problem.

    PM Sent

  • thanks.

  • That is a great Idea!!!

  • that is a super design - thanks for pm the plans goin to make one maybe this weekend.

  • BTW, that platform accomodate a Trangia Spirit?

  • Unfortunately the platform is too small for a Trangia, although the design could be modified to accomplish this.

  • That is simply brilliant! I want one!

  • I have posted a link to the design drawing in the video description. It's fairly easy to make.

  • What starting materials and tools did you use?

  • I recycled 1mm thick aluminum from a turkey fryer basket. Used a pair of tin snips to cut the pattern and a hacksaw to cut the slots. The holes were in the metal already. I've also made a version with sheet metal from Ace Hardware.

  • I saw my old Tea light penny stove, easy prime dish, never failed to light this pressure stove.

might be a good match to you your stove stand.

is that sheet aluminum that thin?

    just great.

  • great idea, opens so many ideas.

  • Schweet! I like it.

  • what is esbit

  • Esbit is solid fuel in tablet form. The tablets have a high energy density. Being solid it can not spill in your pack and soak your gear like liquid fuels. The down side is that it leaves a residue on the bottom of your pot .

I always carry some Esbit tabs. It has saved several outings when it was so cold that alcohol wouldn't vaporize or burn. Alcohol has a real hard time burning in temperatures below 32 deg. F.

Coghlan's and StanSport make similar but smaller fuel tablets

  • Good design makes me so happy! I really like how the esbit/alcohol holder is the potstand as well. Great job. :)

  • Super nice Friar

gives me another nice project to do with the kids

  • Have you posted a pattern with dimensions on the internet anywhere. I think that would be helpful if you could. With much appreciation...Laurie

  • Laurie,

I have just posted a link to a drawing in the info section.

I hope it helps. Sorry it took me so long. I'll also send it to you via PM.

  • what are the holes for ? less weight or a rack?

  • The shape was cut out of an aluminum basket from a turkey fryer. The holes do make the stove lighter. which is a plus

  • Nice

  • Thanks

  • Supurb!

    Bill

  • Many Thanks Bill.

I wanted to give something back after being the recipient of so many quality videos.

  • All I can say is,"Cool, very cool"

  • Thanks Hiram.

    I appreciate it.

My attempt at applying the K.I.S.S. principle.

  • Nice now if you could carry some fuel in you wallet he he and a johnny apple seed pot

  • Thanks Robert.

I think I could make the big bucks if I could make collapsible fuel. Although it would be nice to have a folding cook pot; but wouldn't wear it on my head like Johnny. LOL

  • That is amazing!! My hats is off!! Awesome!! 5/5 (doesn't seem like enough for this one!!) I'll have to try to make one of these!! Ed.

  • Thanks Ed!

It's pretty easy. I used a credit card as a template. Cut the shape with tin snips. Scored the hard to reach bottom cut a few times with a utility knife and snapped it out with a pair of pliers Used a hacksaw to cut the slots..

  • Impressive Friar! This is a great li'l stove! Gram Weenies are cheering you on! Compact, easy to assemble, easy to use, what more could they ask for? Keep up the great work!!! 5 stars!

  • Thanks Drak,

As I put on years I become more of a gram weenie.

The back and knees can't handle a 40 lb pack anymore.

Now if I could just perfect dehydrated water....

  • If you ever igure that one out I know you will become a very rich man! Hope you do not forget your friends when it happens! LOL. I do understand bringing the pack weight down, I spent years carrying a 75lbs and up Alice Pack with extras, and am thankful for a lighter pack. BTW what kind of metal did you make this out of?

  • I used the aluminum fry basket from my turkey fryer. I never fry turkeys; I only use it to home brew beer. The alloy is very heat resistant and does not anneal (soften) after Esbit and alcohol burns.

  • Ok Thanks, I may try my hand at building one of these, that is if you do not mind LOL.

  • Go for it!

I would have loved to have made it out of 16 ga stainless or titanium.

  • Beautiful. I like it

I will do me too ;-)

  • Thank you Maurizio.

I was going to make a knock off of an Esbit wing stove but this design is much more robust and simple .

I also made a larger version that is especially for ≥150mm (6") diameter pots.
