Gotta agree with King. Too many people try to apply wester values and morals (ha!) to other societies. When those societies are ready for change, change will come, as it comes to all things. Others forcing the change can only cause even more pain. Look at Iraq. Ask the families of the 100's of thousands of dead Iraqi civilians if the West should have forced change THERE. Who are we to judge, indeed.
So many America haters here. If this caste system existed in a religious group in the USA it would be destroyed due to the horrible injustice and rightly so. The truth is the freedom and equality in the USA is greater than anywhere else. The systems of castes and karma only serve to make the wealthy in those countries feel better about their greed.
Oh no! A country that works differently than our own! It's up to us to correct the injustice that has worked for this country for thousands of years! Who's to say that their way of life is wrong? US! AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!
They look happy enough, just because you feel sorry for them doesn't mean that they're miserable. Their religion says that their life is only temporary before they're reincarnated into a higher class or a better life. So shut the fuck up, not everything is a problem.
All -isms share their fundamental aspects in common; that any group of people is better or worse or has more or less value than any other.
Or that the people of any group - because of their genealogical history, sex, skin color, or financial standing - exists to be subservient to any other group.
"All -isms share their fundamental aspects in common"
I get the general idea, but it's rather badly put... surely, nudism has nothing to do with it. While religion, which doesn't end in "ism", has everything to do with it.
What these hindus have in common with racists is that they are all fanatics. That is, they have let their common sense and human decency give way to a totalitarian cultural idea.
how can you say these kids are not slaves. Yes, India is progressing, but these kids don't even have names. The Dalit are the untouchables - literally
There is a class system in every culture. The USA tries to hide theors, but it exists. The saying, "Born into money" is as real as "Born poor.' The phoney dream that if you really want more you can get it is pure BS. America relies and survuves on exploiting the poor. that's capitalism.
Erm, slave in the figurative sense. Somehow I doubt that India has outlawed sati only to have literal slavery on the books. Still, good to bring up the issue of the lingering caste system. It deserves attention.
the upper class of india is white right, or part white or somethin?

Dalits do not like being at the bottom of society. That is the key for making a judgement about this system, not whether or not it is "foreign."

...too bad 90% of all seats in Indian colleges are saved for the lower classes, to correct for injustices they've suffered in the past.
Way to do your research you fucking idiot.

you have no right to judge a foreign country and try to change their ways
it might seem bad to your western civilization's eyes but is something you can't even begin to understand
let them be

Interesting that you chose to judge someone and commanded that person to change his/her ways.
It's called hypocrisy.
Your premise that it's okay for you to judge, while commanding others not to behave as you do suggests a god complex.

The previous comment was for KingFernandoBono, who judged others and commanded them to change their ways.

oh yes, because as long as it's accepted by religion, it's perfectly okay, right?

There's currently a very interesting exhibition at the Photographers' Gallery (London/UK) for further information/aspects of this subject.
