How to Melt Candy Canes into Peppermint Heart Chips

Since these ones are really melted down and cut if you can not find cady canes you could stack two peppermint starlight mints on top of each other and then melt.

Could you use regular peppermint discs instead of the mini candy canes to do this as well??? I'm just wondering if it can be done all year round :o)) Oh now Im thinking of other flavors, ummmm ummm ummm.
