Nice commercial and good memories. My Mother bought a new Singer {with cabinet} when my folks got married in 1967. It's a Touch & Sew Golden. Mom made many shirts for me and dad through the years. Not to mention a lot of mending. Or it was kitchen curtains or a bedspread etc. The Singer man would come every year or so and take it in for a tune-up. Mom passed away in 2005 and i have the Singer now. It still sews beautifully, and i will never part with it. In fact, i need to do some mending now!
Interesting! Do you have the one from the 1970's, where some redheaded spokesmodel dressed up in (the upper half of) a grayish-colored magician's tuxedo? I think the premise was the money you could "magically" save with a certain discount sale.
The good ol' Singer 185 With solid Cast Iron machining. When we say portable ladies, we mean it's got a handle, not that you want to carry it around. Fantastic little machine though, I've got two!
I still have this sewing machine...passed on to me from my mom. Love the "only 1.25 a week". This was an age when people were feeling affluent after many tight economic years.
@Dreambro1 yes, i was thinking the same because such a machine today , as an ANTIQUE - would probably run you about forty to fifty . and then the cost of the tune up
but today if you got one it could cost 2-4 hundred, tho we wont talk bout these fancy pancy computer deals
How can a sewing machine be lighthearted? It's an inanimate object!

Is there going to be a part II to this little clip? I'd like to see a commercial for the 401 series of sewing machines.

@tommax26 1.25 a week was equivelent to about 70 bucks a month now. LOL thatd be 400 dollars down and 70 dollars a month. Expensive machine.
