..I love O.I but I'm afraid that Stephen's ''facts'' are rather dubious here. Bruce Lee's kicks were infact SLOWED DOWN on film not sped up. There are REAL demonstrations of Bruce's speed on YT that is NOT from Movies. Look it up for yourselves.
i think Stephen was getting just a little bit irritated by Pam. I certainly was. She just kept showing off all the things she did, and stuff her family had. Sweet lady, but not quite intereting.
13:50 "we're the only creatures that like to show off. apart from peacocks. and... quite a few others, come to think of it, now. all of them...." i do like the point that evolution is largely based on vanity.
Has anyone noticed that the shape of the shadow of the goose and the hawk were the same? So basically, for the duckling, it is not only the shape but also in which direction the shape goes?
Hmmm.. using the argument that punches come in flurries while kicks are not is hardly in favour of a heavy weight boxer versus a smaller man with a background in Wing Chun. Not saying Bruce would definitely win, but it's not realistic to say Bruce Lee would be standing up, trying to give simple only single kicks and try and match them to a flurry of Ali's fast punches. I'd say that's a quite inaccurate expectation of what a man like Bruce Lee would do.
@misterkami2 Bruce was an excellent boxer. Not classical boxing, but boxing techniques and his books have a nearly infinite amount more emphasis on punching that kicking.
Also, I do recall hearing many times that his films were slowed down and not sped up? Who knows. Stephen Fry is still amazing
you know the woman kissing the fish reminded me of a lot of relationships i've had with women. First they reel you in and kiss you but when the y are done with you you're gutted, stripped, hot and bothered and eventually get a plate thrown at you
So many ppl seem to like JV but he does my head in. He does not think he's come to the show, he thinks the show has come to him, and I spent too much time waiting for the show to start up again whislt he rambled a load of bollocks.
@BalmafulaLanando Do you rememvber which episode Stephen gave them fridge magnet letters and they spelt out words? If you could reply I'd appreciate it. Good Vids :P watch them every day
ali took dozens of punches from foreman and frazier and keep dancing. you think that a little 130 pound guy could knock him out?
it is not true to say that lee was quicker than ali. ali is known to this day as having some of the fastest hands ever, and his lateral quickness was unreal.
we dont judge fighters on how cool they looked in movies with choreographed, sped up moves.
@astrofunkswag The problem both boxers and boxing enthusiasts have is that they think it's all in the knockout. If you watch any UFC at all you know that beating a boxer is as simple as putting him on the ground.
So when you consider Bruce Lee who's entire thought process about martial arts was to adapt to the situation, that's what the water quote of his is about, it's simply ludicrous to believe that he'd stand and box with a larger opponent who's only trained to punch.
@cyraknoss Finally someone gets it right. I think in a boxing match Ali would win, but in a real fight Lee would would definitely be victoious (with Ali still having a good chance of winning by getting in a fatal hit before Lee would be able to get to the groundwork) lee would just adapt and make use of his opponent's weakness
@FunkyHonkyCDXX In the Making Of QI, he admitted his primary goal when he's on the QI panel is to try and (quote) "Out-stupid Alan". So yes, he's smarter than he appears on QI.
I watched some Bruce Lee video of an interview where he does a few full extension punches. In the course of 3 frames is what followed. 1st frame nothing (he hasn't started to swing), 2nd frame his fist has shot forth so quickly that it appears he has 2 right arms (1 fully connected the other returning back to his body) the 3rd frame normal. Another time, 1st frame arm half extended. 2nd frame 2 right arms (1 fully connected the other back to body). So fast even the camera catches an after image
@deusrexvinci And he didn't always kick, he had various boxing training hence some of his foot work, and he dodged pretty fast not only that he went for the groin, and fought dirty, and had a vast array of techniques, and applications so assuming he would only do kicks is a bit stereotyped.
