Yes Itachi did kill the clan and Madara helped.

But he didn't want to. If he didn't, the group Coup De'etat (A bunch of rebelling Uchiha's, lead by Fugaku Uchiha) would take over the village, or at least attempt. It was Itachi's mission to kill them. They even ordered him to kill Sasuke. He told them he couldn't, and they allowed Sasuke to live. Itachi never wnated Sasuke to know about his clan's horror, or his own suffering, so he made it out to be a showing of hatred.

Hey, does anyone else get EXACTLY what itachi is doing to sasuke. Sasuke is a village prodogy. itachi tells him to try and kill him. Sasuke trows his life away by basically BECOMEING itachi. 1.sasuke kills his entire family by being the last of his bloodline but not having kids. 2. He becomes a bad criminal who abandoned the leaf village by joining orochimaru(shippuden) 3. another prodogy lost 4.He trys to kill his friends. Does that make sense to n-e one else??
