Its a WW1 sword bayonet by the looks of it. Common in commonwealth armies. The French bayonet was a simliar length but narrower.

Yeah. In WW2 they stopped using the bayonet as much so the length got shorter to save money for other things during the war. WW1 had lots of trench warfare so clubs, bayonets, and some other weapons were important.

i don't believe so, MANY of the japanese bayonets were downright flimsy, these were the newer ones, however the older ones werte quite solid, when my grandfather returned the navy ship lowered a fishing net FULL of arisaka bayonets ammo and clips, he DUG through to find a sturdy one (smart) also all the guns were standard long rifle frontline guns but what caught his eye was the one type 38 Cavalry carbine (18" barrel) and 6 stripper clips full of 6.5 jap. all of which are in my possesion now
