help! for some reason i can't input kanji on my "kanji sonomama rakubiki jiten" software, only kana and english. does anyone else have the same problem? and how should i remedy this? thanks in advance!!!
PS. my version does not say meikei(?) on the top screen like yours did on 0:23. does it make a difference?
Great app. Just wanted to point out that the reason you got 'shell' instead of 'see' was because of how you drew the legs (strokes 6 and 7). Shell has 'animal legs' which you drew there(two strokes pointing downwards). See has 'human legs' in which the stroke 7 curls right and slightly up. Another example of human legs is in the kanji for elder brother (kei). Sorry to be a pedant!
do I just suck that bad or doesn't it display anything else than kanji when searching some english words...? Just would have to see it in hiragana or katakana since I suck with kanji quite much :S...
Yeah, it's a little late since you've already returned from 日本 but I just went this past 三月 and I bought ソーマバリンガ and was able to play it no problem. Well, aside from having to translate and not being able to fully understand it.
I'm going to do student exchange there for a year soon, so I really need something like this. I only know hiragana, katakana, and maybe 30-40 kanji... Do you think this would really help me out?
You can look up English words to get the Japanese (which includes kanji). Despite the name, it doesn't have a dedicated kanji dictionary. It only has a J-E, E-J and J-J.
wait, is it only in Japanese? and does it tell you how to pronounce, learn etc. Japanese? I mean it looks like it would be hard to use if your english, I really want to learn Japanese using my ds, will this work? And if not do you know nay ds software that will?
It is just a dictionary not a learning software. Also it is made for Japanese learning English primarily so I don't think it will be too useful for very beginners.
I have this software; however, it is very difficult to use. The stylus does not always work as well as I would like it too. This is cool software and anyone interested in learning Japanese would enjoy this program.
Yes, it should be mentioned also it only has the Genius J-E and E-J. It doesn't have a kanji dictionary (although a lot of kanji can be looked up in the J-E).
Well, it's a great little video you made there, and though I can see how it would be a wonderfully affordable tool for a Japanese person to learn English, I don't see how it could be very useful the other way around.
Like most electronic dictionaries, it is made primarily for the Japanese learning English, but with the handwriting feature and the decent Genius J-E any beginner who has hiragana and about 100 kanji under their belt should get a lot out of this.
Ah, I see. That would exclude me then. I am interested in picking up some Japanese though, and hope to see a title like this (on the DS) for the English speaker wanting to learn Japanese.
You'd be surprised how quickly you can pick up Hiragana and the meaning of about 100 kanji. With a little bit of work each day you can cover hiragana in about 2 weeks or so. Even if your goal is spoken Japanese, you would be crippled without some knowledge of the written.
I think I might actually be better at written than spoken! X-D But I agree; the number of kanji and kana may SEEM impossible, but many of the basic kanji are nice and easy to remember.
...now if only I could remember how to PRONOUNCE them and not just their meanings!! :sheepish: baaaa...
Do you still sell this?

From what I see, this thing is mostly a dictionary. I'm going to study in Japan for a year starting September.
So, I was wondering if anyone who has this software thinks it is comparable to a Denshi Jisho (電子辞書)which are quite expensive?

at the left side where you are supposed to write the kanji there are 4 different tabs, try each one of them and write
synterlu 2 years ago
@jns4chat I know this post is old, but you need to select the "kanji" option instead of kana.

You said any software (except from China) will work on a DS because they're region free?
So if I go to Japan (as I plan to in April) then I could bring back a game and play it (日本語で)on a DS here no problem? :O??
biglmac 4 years ago
Yes, that should work fine. My US DS will play any Japanese DS software.

Since the DS doesn't have any regional restrictions, you can play pretty much any game from any country on any DS.
