  • How is this song called?

  • @GrootveldMusic Raincheck by Billy Strayhorn

  • ive always been a fan of mraz, but i dont like his tone as much in this video; it sounds too electric, but i guess it's also because it's from the early 90s hah

  • SIMPLY THE BEST.

  • what a flowingly good piece. great stuff.

  • GREAT!!

  • GREATTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • super grand merci, donnythejazz ! quel bonheur :D

  • great bass playing...

  • Виртуозы!

  • awesome, but what's the name of the song?

  • @katmusic2006 Raincheck

  • cant say best...what about mccoy tyner? bill evans? ahmad jamal? dave brubeck..all great in their own way, this is not sports its music.

  • Tommy Flanagan, best jazz pianist...

    Wes Montgomery, best jazz guitarist...

    Jimmy Smith, best jazz organist...

    Miles Davis, best jazz trumpeter...

    Charlie Parker, best jazz saxophonist...

    What more can you ask?

  • Ella Fitzgerald, best jazz vocalist...

  • Yeah! I forgot her!

    ...

Now the best jazz guitarist for me changed from Wes to Lenny Breau! Check out him playing Mercy Mercy Mercy, or at the least bit just check him all out!

  • to keep your opinions to your self.

  • I know music isn't a sport...

I know there is no best...

Lol! Opinions is what blind us from what is really true, that the facts are:

There are people who listen to music, like music and favorite some music. Their favorites are the best for them. They say the best is basically there favorite. So basically saying who is the best is basically saying who is your favorite (or favorites). I know a lot... Don't judge me from one old silly comment of mines, hmm, not that old...

  • @LinkBulletBill This has got to be the worst and most daft comment on youtube i have read in a long while. Congratulations.

  • well done...

    -Emile

  • wow that was incredible,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Now that's trio.... Yeah Bobby!

  • Holy shit! Bobby Durham joined my quartet in Berlin, in the hot Summer of 2007! That's a real loss to the world of jazz. He was a terrific guy, and a great story teller. I will post one of the tracks I had recorded there at my blog. Link in profile. -- Anyway, the gentleman of bop-piano here, in my hometown.

Thanks for posting that great video.

    All boppin' best,

    Brewbop

  • Master!!!

  • FANTASTIC! The pianist has such a gentle touch! And the drummer is awesome. Too bad hes dead.

  • nice jazz great improv

  • i really wonder if the audience really love jazz or they are just there because they are bored on a friday night

  • I've just heard that the drummer here, Bobby Durham has just died aged 71. A sad loss, a superb drummer.

  • George mraz is one of the best double bassist around. Beyond words in pulse and intonation and his unique melodic fluid approach to bass soliong in general. God bless you George Mraz.

  • Such taste, tone and telepathy. Terrific!

  • Perhaps one criterion for a good jazz drummer might be whether he has played in a small group with the peerless Tommy Flanagan. A few words of praise for Bobby Durham?

What a lovely performance. Many thanks for posting it.

  • Used to see Tommy at bakers keyboard in Detroit, one night out walks Elvin Jones, then Ron Carter on bass--will never forget that.

  • WHAT? WHAT? great intonation George!

  • @BassyVick

    Not just intonation! .-))

  • great player. nice touch.

  • This is a great example how a master makes the bebop, hardbop language timeless ! A great inspiration.

    Eric Meridiano

  • Wow, I searched to find Tommy and I discovered George Mraz. Great trio!

  • What's the name of this tune ?

  • raincheck

  • Very tasty Donny, Another great Detroit pianist like Barry Harris, Hank Jones etc. All of them were great accompianists as well. Mraz and Durham back up well on this. As an aside, what happened to Boberwig? Gone from cyberspace! Thanks for your excellent offerings.

  • Thanks. I didn't know that Boberwig had gone AND all his brilliant videos before I'd had time to download the best of them. He was the best jazz downloader of all. I wonder what the hell has happened.

  • Thanks, he was a great jazz pianist as my enormous Flanagan CD collection will testify.

  • Thanks -- beautiful trio work. love 'father' Flanagan.

  • Thanks, I'll try to do some more if I can get them in under 100Mb and the 10 minute cut off.

  • Just fabulous -- Flanagan and Mraz are incredible -- 11 on a scale of 10.
