@winterlandboy oh man, I can't believe it... since ...? well, i didn't know that 'cause i'm just 15 yrs, so i start to listen sly and the family stone in 2009 through prince, so... yeah.
Some people talk like Sly totally fried his brains, but he seems pretty normal and coherent here,. especially for a guy who's going on 70. Want to see a musical genius who seems permanently messed up from all the drugs he took? Check out a newer Brian Wilson interview (no offense to Brian, but damn, he loved his acid.)
I mean we all know he did drugs but I agree, ppl act as if he's space cadet or sumn. To be honest, he's way more normal and has more personality than 85% of the ppl I go to school with.
@zachmasterzach Well.. do you want to have a contest to see who's more fucked up?.Maybe Sly is as fucked up in his body as Brian Wilson is in his head. Both guys present good reasons to stay away from drugs.
he's responsible for some much great, universal music. i'm caught in two minds - is it depressing that he's not making music, or positive that he's alive and seemingly OK?
there's a riot goin' on - amazing, but the sound of being at the bottom of the world
agree with above, he may not be what he was but at least he is still here, and what he did for music, people, and the times back then, he is one of the big ones
He sounds great...happy and content and proud of his accomplishments....Glad he decided to drop out and be himself and take all the pressure off...If he'd tried to continue he may have (who knows) ended up like Jimi or Donny Hathaway..or Jim Morrison...or Michael Jackson. He dropped out and we missed hearing new music from him but he's still here and THAT'S COOL
Watching Sly pander on a morning radio zoo like that makes me sad, but I'm glad he's ok. Where is Rick Rubin on this? Last chance to record a legend who I'll bet has so much left inside. Put Sly in a studio and let him tell you what he needs. One of those tight clean American Recordings would be wonderful. OK, so he'll only show up half the time. Build it in to the schedule. C'mon, it's Sly for God's sake!
I just wish the dj wouldn't dwell on the past so much--of course one will have to acknowledge it, but it gets kinda rude to someone who is still a constantly evolving artist...
and I wish more hip hop artists would use the real thing instead of old samples (no matter how good they sound)--a lot of the sampled performers, like Sly, don't own the rights to their music (or an equitable percentage)--so they're inadvertently supporting THE MAN big time...just perpetuates exploitation
Aw man, I love ol Sly. That man is such an inspiration to me....I nearly lost it down that path that he went...thank God I'm, in Sly's words, "Back On The Right Track"! For almost 5 years now! Fo real!
Awesome, love sly man.I heard some of the unreleased beats from various times and it all killer funk music, I wish , like he said, he didnt stay underground for so long.
Sly didn't seem too bad off when this was filmed. Down hill since then.
