@svguy85 It depends... Talking about Brazilian Portuguese, it may sound like "ch" or not depending on its position on the word and it can only sound like that on the syllables "te" or "ti". For example, on the words "bate" (beat) and "forte" (hard) it really sounds like "ch", but on "tambor" (drum) it doesn't, as you can notice listening to the music. I can't remember of any word where "ti" doesn't sound like "ch", so I think it always sounds like that in Brazilian Portuguese.

But if there is another letter accompanying "te", as in the verb "baTER" (to beat) or "onTEM" (yesterday) it won't sound like "ch". Probably there's an easier way to explain all this stuff... I'm saying all this only as a native speaker from Sao Paulo, I never studied Portuguese deeply, so I may be missing something and there may be regional differences that I can't remember right now.
