Very nice sound and lovely song. (I wish you were in focus so I could better enjoy your playing and admire you lovely Taylor guitar). Are you using a microphone or PA to produce this sound quality (vs built-in system)?
this old old clip was recorded with a mini teleconference mic that i had to sit a few inches from. it did have a pretty rich sound though. thanks. later clips are more in focus.
That is some great guitar playing. I don't know the words to use to talk about the sound I hear when you play this song, I just know I like what I hear. AND you have great technique.
I cried while listening to this song, it brings on so much joy and pleasure, you feel it with every single cell of your body... Your play is so passionate and emotional... Thank you so much for sharing and bringing your beautiful talent into this cruel world! Love, Anja
i hear hundreds of guitar solo about this song but yours is the best one.i play guitar& piano too.your style almoust same as mine, can you play havanna from kenny g? cause this song should be nice to hear with same style the way you play TSOYS
Once again you exceed expectations. Wonderful delivery. Beautiful tone. I hear much expression in your performance of this tune.
I love the ending. If you get a chance, check out my arrangement. It's a bit dark. I forgot what I was going to play so I improvised the first verse. Getting older is a pain sometimes.
You are interpreting music and I can hear the feeling you deliver with your performance. That is what I admire about your performances.
Any damn fool can run scales up and down the neck. Too often in my opinion players get hung up on developing technique. They overlook the meaning of each note.
sure. and i appreciate it. but i was just giving credit where it's due in reply to your comment on the Em9 and the turnaround at 1:36 (ie, they weren't my ideas, i just learned the song that way).
That was superb - I enjoyed every second. You style of play is very graceful and soulful, and the arrangement is beautiful. I can tell that you put a lot of work into smoothing the piece out. It must be a lot of fun to play.
WOW! Who says the best things in life are free? I DO now believe that is TRUE..cause,, I would pay to hear U play and I'm gettin it for free here!! wonder-filled performance! really very beautiful! thx.......KEEPON STRUMMIN.............DALLAS
TroubleClef , I must bring my equipment to where you are, and play my songs for you. Send me a message to my account. I do all of the Tony Mottola arrangements, and even had a chance to play in front of him, before he passed away in 1995.
But first let me say, the thing that separates you from everyone else, is the pauses in your arrangement. I love how you give each note or each chord a "chance" to ring out. The part that kills me is 1:20 to 1:22 That is THE MOST romantic two seconds there is. The entire song is just breath taking. You continue to play the high "G" note from 2:12 to 2:20 from chord to chord. Wonderful, then you end Gmaj7
I appreciate it greatly. but, just so you know, the arrangement isn't mine. It's Baden Powell's as notated in the video details by clicking "more" in the box to the right of the video window. cheers.
Quite a blurry video...but it gives it a 'dreamy' feel to the beautifully renditioned song the song...an absolutely wonderful playing as well! Love it...2 thumbs up!
Superb playing and that guitar sounds beautiful, could you please tell me what make and model it is? although I'm sure it's also your beautiful playing that accounts for the tone.
You play just amazing! cleanest sound i ever heard! im learning this song now-comapring to you i souund like i play with my feets...very good playing!
your guitar skill is amazing! you know i just heard Perry Como sing this song from the album titled Lightly Latin...he sung it perfectly. Would anyone know if the guitar style from Mr. C's album was the Bossa Nova style?

I cannot get the DVD for the movie Sandpiper where this 1965 academy award winning song The Shadow of Your Smile is found. Maybe the movie is not as good.
Your videos are helping my playing enormously. Our tastes and song choices coincide almost exactly. I am a huge fan of Brazilian, especially Baden Powell, and I frequent Brazil-on-guitar. The problem even with tab is getting the timing fingering and feeling. You demonstrate those elements so well in your playing that it has helped in my own. I was finally able nail Jansch's take on First Time Ever I Saw Your Face after watching you play it. Your Beatles stuff is giving me many ideas. Thanks.
But does someone have a slow bossa version of this song, im having this song right now with my bass guitar lessons, i have some versions but not the fast one im looking for...
I just watched the Sandpiper, loved the song and listened to alot of them done on youtube, and you are by far the best....my husband also learned how to play it! Mahalo
thanks. i saw the movie recently too. Not the greatest movie ever (my favorite over-the-top line is when Liz calls that guy a "terrible, terrible creep" or something like that.). The Em9 you voice at 1:08 sounds super. m9 is a favorite chord for me. I use it sometimes as a substitue for it's enharmonic (or tonic) Maj7.
1:21 is a nice treat also. I wish I had thought of that turnaround at 1:36. I might steal that from you.
