(Be careful not to make too many grunts and moans during competition! "Verbal taps" are very subjective...referees can stop the competition because of a misinterpreted verbal exclamation. I hope you take this suggestion as nothing more than a supplement to all of the incredible knowledge you have already learned from Master Dean et al.)
Ossssss!
Congratulations! :)

This is pretty cool. I didn't have to know half of this shit for my purple-belt - invariably, vid's like these make me feel like a fraud. Good job treas. And good job to the instructors for creating such an awesome system.
@Mualkoth You shouldn't feel like a faud. This is a very flashy purple belt demonstration and that is Roy's style. He likes the flashy stuff. As long as you know your white-to-blue techniques perfectly, as well as know a few different move strings/combos then you are more than qualified to be a purple belt. It all comes with time, practice, and determination.
I'll piggy back on this. Some of the best purples I know at our gym, the joke about them is they only know like 5 moves. But in reality they have a small skill list but they are able to apply them so perfectly and with such precision that its very hard to counter.
Very nice demonstration of the "arte suave". Either during the demonstration of the techniques or the sparring. We could notice the smoth flow of the transiction of the positions. Only that way is possible no mater the age or the number of adversaries to survive so many atacks and defenses. No other marcial art have ,so many movements already registered and still many tecniques to be discovered and performed. Is unlimitated.
I always have to point out my favorite transition on these videos. For this one, I'm going with the one at 03:09. It's not that difficult of a transition, but he just did it so smooth. Watch how when he spins to the high mount, his hand catches the wrist of his partner perfectly.
@uchideshi, Did any of your blue belts get stripes while progressing to purple? Or is it just straight from blue to purple, because I was watching another video of yours when a white belt graded to a blue, I think he had around three or four stripes.
@iexcalibui2 I doubt it, considering the instructor has determined beyond a reasonable doubt that the student is eligible beforehand. In other words, I believe it has already been deemed that he or she is at that belt level prior to the belt test. But it would be for many a rite of passage, and confirmation to all of your technical ability. This is my own speculation though. Cheers.
i think you guys are in oregon right? some day i shall come for some training i hope. i agree this bjj looks so smooth definitley bjj i wonder if they do no gi??
@cadillacboi420 yea, i think they do. I know he has a No gi essentials dvd, and surely he teaches some no gi for competition. What a great school, wish i lived nearby.
Oh, and unless you've experienced Roy "The Boa" Harris' pressure, it's impossible to imagine how intense it is. He can pretty much tap people at will with only his pressure. When he puts it on, you literally have no choice but to moan.
I'm privileged to have done two such demonstrations (blue and purple belt), and I've competed several times (most notably the US Open). I can unequivocally say that performing 60-some techniques for your peers and instructors, then taking on four fresh opponents who bring their A game for 6 minute rounds, makes these experiences similar to competition in intensity (but longer lasting). Unless you've experienced it, it's hard to appreciate how challenging this is.
Great!!!

NIce. And for those of you who think the sounds were acting, you have obviously never had Professor Harris on top of you; unimaginable pressure.
