Darren Aronofsky just knows how to bring out the best in every actor and his a genius if it comes to casting the actors for his films. I mean, just think about the amazing performance of Hugh Jackman in "The Fountain" - it left me speechless and deeply moved! I guess he makes the actors really believe in their skills and reminds them that the work of art matters more than any star persona. And the reward is an incredible performance.
Rourke should at least get a oscar nod, the scene with his daughter is just fucking heart wrenching, I know its a cliche in this kinds of films, ya know the father who wasn't there thing, but the way he delivers the speech makes it feel fresh, and sincere.
This looks great. Rourke's performance is real down to earth. I'm sure Aronofsky did NOT make this film to join the MMA/UFC bandwagon, so timing is not an issue here. He is an artist. Artists go their own direction. No one in the mainstream liked the Fountain, but its a good film, albeit it was an unconventional one. Unfortunately, in this current market of things, the Wrestler might get the same kind of mixed reception.
Kinda a bad time to do a pro wrestling movie. They should have done it several years ago when their ratings were alot higher. UFC has taken a ton of their fans away.
You're still missing the point. This film has nothing to do with WWE and will probably not appeal a whole lot to the WWE audience. And there was already a crappy wrestling movie during wrestling's heyday about 8 years ago called 'Ready To Rumble'.
Actually Ready To Rumble was WCW and was entertaining. I didn't mention WWE but you think of it when you say pro wrestling.
Also, when I say I get it... that means I do so you don't need to claim that I'm missing any point. I know the plot to this movie. This story relates alot to Jake "The Snake" Roberts' story and many others if you saw that doc made several years ago that had him and talked about Mic Foley falling off the HIAC. This movie is still about pro wrestling!
and the winner is......
Rourke meritava davvero l'oscar. Eccezionale.

Saw the movie: there is blood, there are tears. The style is different but the substance is the same: self-destruction.
Another Aronofsky's masterpiece :D!!!
