Dogfight is a 3-D combat. In vertical maneouver, F-104J could get a lot of advantage over F-1 or F-5 which are only better than F-104 in horizontal maneouver.
I fully agree. US NAVY and USAF used the little but agile F-5 as an agressor jet for decades to simulate Migs in air combat maneouver exercises. F-104 was designed as a supersonic interceptor to hit Soviet bombers or as a nuke striker not a dogfighter like the F-5.

TurkKafkas is right. The F-104s role was as a high speed interceptor, not a fighter, despite the "F" designation. Many times have I seen F-5s (before they were decommissioned) do minimum radius turns that would tear the wings off an F-104.
An F-5 could seriously outmaneuver a Starfighter. And while the Starfighter was a sleek and beautiful aircraft, how do you think it got the nickname "The Widowmaker?" Those stubby little wings work great at high speeds, but they don't provide much lift, and the closer you are to the ground at low airspeeds, the closer you are to buying the farm.
You are not a pilot and have no idea what you're talking about. ANY experienced pilot would take an F-104 over and F-5. Only the F-20 could compete with the Starfighter.

In Vietnam the VPAF never sent Migs up against the F-104, they knew the same thing would happen!!

The planes flying for the first 20 seconds or so are F-5 Freedom Fighters, not F-104 Starfighters.
