You are supposed to keep the nosewheel off the ground with 10 degrees of flaps in but then after you leave the ground, get into ground effect, you are supposed to level off until you reach Vy and then rotate to Vx! Idiot pilot. He didn't even take the crosswind into effect.

first of all, rudder control would not have saved this plane. The more deflection of controls you add, the more drag you cause, which would have stalled it quicker. Plane was overloaded, and pilot used full flaps for takeoff,which is against that aircraft's operating manuel. The plane lifted off of the ground initally because it was in ground affect. When it climbed above ground affect, it stalled.
Agreeing to what houshawn said, that is exactly why it would not take off plus the plane alot of weight and the balance is not right, leading to even more of a disaster like this.
Seems like that they don't have any aviators professionally trained at Colombia......

In terms of drag a small amount of rudder deflection is nothing compared to having your fuselage traveling sideways through the air.
